Best 18 volt String Trimmer – Makita DUR187LZ String Trimmer Review

– Stick around,
in today’s video I’m
gonna show you my review
of the brushless Makita
18 Volt string trimmer.
(saw buzzing)
(tools whirring)
Hey guys, I’m Wade of all trades.
In today’s video I’m just gonna show you
my review of this Makita
18 Volt string trimmer
with the brushless motor.
I spent my hard-earned money
to get this thing to do
some cleanup around the yard
and I’m not regretting it one bit,
so let’s get to the review.
(air whooshing)
This Makita string trimmer
features an 11 three
quarters inch cutting width
with a brushless motor for longer life,
less heat, and more run time.
(bell dings)
It’s built using
extreme protection technology
that prevents debris and liquids
from entering the tool
and extends the tool life.
Automatic torque drive
adjusts the motor speed
and torque to match the cutting needs.
The battery protection system
ensures the batteries
are protected during use
by preventing overheating, over discharge,
and circuit protection.
(air whooshing)
The motor in this unit
is actually in the head
and, so it does make it
maybe a little heavier on the head
than, say, a typical string trimmer,

/> but it’s definitely balanced well
with where they have the
handle and everything.
This is a guard you could flip up,
keep the string from hitting, like, a tree
or your fence or something like that.
I didn’t find it too useful,
but, I mean, it’s there.
It is a two string unit.
I found that the string
is actually quite crappy
that they have on factory.
I was doin’ some edging
and it was breaking off
every, like, 10, 15 seconds
so probably gonna have to
replace that pretty quick,
but I mean, everything
else about it I like
so I’m okay with that, you know,
it’s got a typical blade
to trim your string.
Nothin’ groundbreaking on the bottom.
Bump to extend your line,
so pretty good that way.
It’s aluminum, aluminum handle,
and then basically I guess
this would probably be the
electronics for the motor
and stuff like that.
It’s where the battery and
everything comes in to play.
This unit has, it senses your battery
so it protects your battery
from being drained too much
and different things,
conditions that can happen
for the battery and
shorten their lifespan,
so Makita makes sure
that you’re always
protecting your batteries,
so that’s pretty cool.
It’s got a safety switch on the back,
and you hit the trigger to fire it up.
You do have to turn the unit on
right here, on off switch,
so you hold it to power it on,
and then press to cycle
through the speeds.
It has three separate speed settings
plus an auto setting
which basically reads
the amount of torque and stuff
that the motor’s experiencing
and dials up the power
based on whatever settings it’s seeing.
And then it has a reverse function too,
so if for whatever reason
it gets plugged up with stuff
and you wanna run it backwards
you hold that
and then you’re able to run it backwards
just for a short period of time.
It’s never made to
actually trim in reverse.
You always want it spinning the clockwise,
but it does help
if you ever have to back it out.
So on the battery side
I got two five amp hour batteries
with the kit I bought
and I gotta say,
I blew the driveway with the leaf blower
and I also, I don’t know
if you can see that.
It’s got three lights on it.
And I trimmed all over the yard
and still tons of power left
so this battery here
would last the average homeowner
about two to three mowings
based on my calculations.
(air whooshing)
(trimmer whirring)
