Can you still GAME on the GT 620? – A review of the Nvidia GeForce GT 620
hi everyone welcome back to a new video
today i’ll be testing this gpu
this right here is an nvidia geforce
gt620
this card was released in may of 2012
and it’s based on the fermi architecture
and comes clocked in
at 700 megahertz this card also has one
gigabyte of ddr3 vram which comes
clocked in at 535 megahertz
it also has 96 shading units 16 tmus
4 rops and supports up to directx 12.
let’s find out what this gpu can still
do in 2021

first off it was time to take this card
out of it home which is a pc that i
picked up at a local thrift shop
i then cleaned the cart as there was
some dust on the card and in the
heatsink
taking the card apart only required
removing four screws which made taking
it apart
very easy here is a before and after of
cleaning the card

i then applied some new thermal paste
and put the cards back together
let’s have a look at the card itself
this card is cooled by this fan
this is how
under load
and at full speed
for video out this card has vga hdmi
and dvi then it was time to put the card
into my pc
this is also my testing system and it
has an intel core i7 3770k
12 gigabytes of ddr3 ram and an asus
sabretooth z77 motherboard
now let’s boot up the pc with this card
installed
with the pc started i went ahead and
installed the drivers
this went smooth and easy just like how
it should be
now let’s run some benchmarks starting
with user benchmark
user benchmark showed that the cpu was
performing below expectations
while the gt620 was performing above
expectations
the next benchmark that i ran was heaven
on the high quality preset
this card managed to get an average fps
of 3.5
and a score of 87.
the last benchmark that i ran was
performance test
in this benchmark the card got a score
of 115 in the 2d mark
and a score of 319 in the 3d mark
now let’s test some games starting with
minecraft
on the lowest settings with a render
distance of 5 chunks
this card managed to get an average fps
of 59
with 1 percent lows of 40 fps and 0.1
loss of 37 fps minecraft is definitely
a game that can be played on this card
the next game that i tested was roblox
on the lowest settings this card managed
to get an average fps of 58
with one percent lows of 40 fps and 0.1
lows of 2 fps
for some lighter titles freddy fazbear’s
pizza re-estimator
ran absolutely fine ultimate custom
knight was also perfectly playable
so light games can definitely be played
on this card
now let’s set some more intensive games
starting with eurotruck simulator 2
this game ran fine on the lowest
settings in the 1024×768 resolution
the card managed to get an average fps
of 52
with one percent lows of 42 fps and 0.1
lows of 37 fps
bus simulator 12 was barely playable on
the lowest settings in the 1024 by 768
resolution
the card only managed to get an average
fps of 12
with one percent lows of 9 fps and 0.1
loads of 2 fps
cs go ran acceptable on this card on the
lowest settings in the 1366 by 768
resolution
this card managed to get a max fps of
137 in the benchmark
while the fps usually hovered around 40
fps in game
beam ng drive was surprisingly enough
playable on this card
on the lowest settings in the 800 by 600
resolution
this card managed to get an average fps
of 25
with one percent and 0.1 percent lows of
22 fps
now let’s move on to bus simulator 16.
on the lowest settings in the 800 by 600
resolution
this card managed to get an average fps
of 22
with one percent lows of 15 fps and 0.1
lows of 11 fps which makes this game
just
barely playable on this card
pc build x simulator was really on the
edge of being playable
on the low settings in the 1024×768
resolution
this card managed to get an average fps
of 11
with one percent loads of 6 fps and 0.1
lows of 2 fps
fortnite was also playable using the
performance mode and the lowest settings
with 35
3d resolution this card got an average
fps of 67
with one percent lows of 37 fps and 0.1
percent lows of 5 fps
gta 5 surprisingly ran pretty good
on the lowest settings in the 800 by 600
resolution
the card managed to get an average fps
of 36
with one percent loads of 23 fps and 0.1
lows of 9 fps

i then tried overclocking the card the
card surprised me a lot in terms of how
far i could push it
i was able to max out both the sliders
in msi afterburner
after which the card got an extra 210
megahertz on the core clock
and an extra 160 megahertz on the memory
clock
i then ran heaven again comparing it to
the first run
the card now got an average fps of 4.9
which is 1.4 fps better and the score
also went up by 35 points
i then tried some games again minecraft
now got an average of pierce of 76
with one percent lows of 60 fps and 0.1
lows of 54 fps
which means that minecraft definitely
got more playable
roblox ran a bit better averaging an fps
of 60
with 1 lows of 48 fps and 0.1
loss of 2 fps
euro truck simulator 2 actually ran a
lot better now
the average fps now went up to 77 with 1
lows of 61 fps and 0.1 lows of 56 fps
beam and g drive had a slight
performance boost the average fps now
went up to 33
with one percent and 0.1 percent lows of
28 fps
gta 5 also ran a bit better the fps went
up to 46
with one percent lows of 28 fps and 0.1
loads of 17 fps
and with that it’s time to uninstall the
drivers and shut the pc down
now what do i think of this card in my
opinion
this card is still pretty usable in 2021
this card can still run most games and
after some overclocking
most games run pretty good of course
this card won’t outperform any big cards
but due to its small size directx 12
support
and how relatively quiet it is i would
recommend it
in for example an hd pc or in low budget
pc build
