Today I wanna do a brief review and speaker comparison with this cool amp
that gave me a lot of work to reach my sound
was a hard task to find my sound with the adjustments
this amp works with a Baxandall tone circuit and in this case some controls needed to be explored
I’ll let the panel available below and you will check the settings
of this Carvin Legacy 2×12 combo amp
it’s a signature amp from the legend Steve Vai
a brief overview:
a combo amp loaded with a pair of 12″ Celestion Vintage 30 speakers
with 5x 12AX7 preamp tubes and 4x EL34 power tubes
but they can be replaced for 6L6 tubes because it feature a bias selector switch
the front panel features 2 independent channels
first channel Lead with Volume, Drive, Bass, Middle, Treble and Presence controls
the Channel selector switch
Channel 2 Volume control
Presence push-button – that works more like a bright switch
Bass, Middle and Treble controls and Master Reverb for both channels
the rear panel features 2x Speaker out jacks with 4/8/16 ohms impedance selector switch
100/50 watt power reductor switch
Bias switch selector for both 6L6 and EL34 tubes
1/4″ Footswitch jack and Fx loop Send/Return jacks, ok?
What will I do? I’ll play some chords on clean and lead channels
using the internal V30 speaker combined
with my G12T-75 on Harley Benton right there
separated and combined
and then with my handmade cab with Nordik Gjallarhorn and Heimdallr speakers
My rig: Gibson Les Paul Studio stock … no mods
Carvin Legacy 100W 2×12 Celestion V30
mic’d with Sennheiser E609 mics
Harley Benton 2×12 but with only the Celestion G12T-75 active and mic’d with Sennheiser E609
and then my Handmade 2×12 cab with Nordik Gjallarhorn and Heimdallr speakers, ok?
so let’s start on clean sound … check it out
very well … now on the Lead channel on this amp … check it out
Very good !! For who wants to know how this amp sounds
with V30 combined with Celestion G12T-75 and with a couple different speakers
a tip on this amp: On lead channel you need to crank up the Mid control because it sounds
too dark and without life … this amp needs high settings of Mid and Treble
I think it’s a characteristic of this amp sound this way
otherwise it sounded very odd to my ears
but … this is it
