Devil in Agbada Nollywood Movie Review (Erica Nlewedim, Linda Osifo & Efe Irele) ?

hey guys my name is tito i make videos on personal
finance saving and investing most of the time but
some other times i talk about other things like
today when i’ll be reviewing the new nollywood
film devil in agbada devil in agbada is a film
about how three young women team up to take down
a corrupt and powerful politician that they’ve all
been directly or indirectly a victim of as otumba
srinivari plans to become the next governor of
lagos these three women plan to make him pay for
crimes he’s committed in the past the movie stars
erika lewedem linda osifo ife irely uche jumbo
alex akubo desmond eliot uzo aruque and akin lewis
as otumba shonibare it’s directed by umanu elijah
now before i get into the performances in this
movie i just want to say hello to the makers of
this film and people who are involved with the
project devil in agbada is one of those projects
that you just know that the people involved in
the film will read and watch every single review
that comes out about their movie so yeah hi once
again secondly i want to commend the makers of
this film for employing a fantastic strategy
brilliant strategy one that

i’ve never seen
before you see in this film one of the stars is
erica from big brother niger the recent um season
of big brother nigerian erica has a huge and very
loyal fan base they call themselves the elites so
um these fans not just for erica but for lots of
other big brother niger ex-housemates they tend to
support their um their the housemate or their fave
by going out to see their movies or to support
their projects so almost you’re almost guaranteed
that the army of elites are going to go out
and see this movie in large numbers not to mention
that i think this is the first one of erica’s
movies since she left the big brother niger house
that’s coming out in cinemas where she’s in a
starring role um correct me if i’m wrong and bear
in mind it’s not see they cast erica just because
she’s an ex big brother nigel housemate you know
she’s an actress anyway so it makes perfect sense
it’s perfect marketing so brilliant on the
part of the filmmakers but the real stroke
of genius from the filmmakers by casting or with
casting erica is the fact that because erica’s
fans the elites are so loyal so passionate and
so vocal they tend to um go after people who
say anything remotely negative about erika or any
project that erica is involved with so if by some
chance this film isn’t good i’m not saying that’s
the case i’m just saying if that were the case
you wouldn’t really hear of any reviewers
or critics saying that this film isn’t good
again i’m not saying that’s the case but if that
were the case critics and reviewers like myself
won’t say anything bad about the film so as not to
invoke the wrath of the elites or the fan base so
i mean stroke of genius nobody’s going to say
anything bad about this movie even if they wanted
to genius i couldn’t have thought of it myself
round of applause to the makers of this film
the performances akin lewis aki lewis is like
the main character in this film he is the
devil in agbada and he plays otsumba srinivare a
despicable and diabolical governorship aspirants
in lagos state and he does a good enough job of
making the audience not like him because that’s
quite essential or important for the story in the
film and he doesn’t spend a lot of scenes or time
in this film like politicking most of these scenes
are frolicking with women which reminds me there’s
quite a lot of flesh in this film well more
flesh than i’ve seen in lots of nollywood films
in the cinema in recent times so yeah but
aside from that akin lewis did a great job
his performance was cool desmond elliott desmond
elliott played otunba srinivares right-hand man
and um he depicted like the typical cronies of
corrupt politicians especially in countries like
nigeria his performance was basic nothing really
stood out for me if i’m being honest his character
though had another very important like role in
the film that’s integral to the story but i’m not
going to disclose it because i don’t want to spoil
the movie for you if you want to find out what it
is go and see the film for yourself um moving
on to alex akubo alexa kuba played like a pimp
who supplies women or babes for otunba srinivas
lavish parties that mainly constitute of women
his role wasn’t really integral to the story i
think alexa cooper was just there to provide some
funny moments in the film so yeah it was
neither here nor there he made the film
marginally better in my opinion after
alex akubo let’s talk about uzo aruqui
uzo aruku is a good actor he played um
muchando one of the former bodyguards or
security detail of otsumba srinivari and if
i’m being honest this wasn’t one of my favorite
uzo arukuy performances but i understand um it’s
the dilemma of the working actor it’s not every
role that you take on that’s going to be fantastic
sometimes you just take on rolls to put you know
food on the table and skip a roof over her head so
i guess i understand it was interesting to see him
playing the role he played um but like i said not
my favorite role or performance from uzo aruque
now let’s talk about the ladies in this film um
if it really plays kiki one of the victims of
chief otumba’s abuse of power and influence she’s
the one who like gets the team together assembles
the team together to like exact vengeance on um
otumba shrini barry and um her performance was
was good she showed a range of emotion and to be
honest i’ve never seen any other performances from
fa really i’ve been hearing about her a lot on
instagram and i’ve been curious about her but
i’ve never seen any movie or tv show that she’s
been in this was the first and i think she tried
to give a convincing enough performance
for this type of film um her character was
slightly multifaceted and um i don’t know if
this was the intention of the filmmakers but it
did feel like kiki was a bit manipulative because
while everyone who came together to form the team
had their own you know score to settle with
otumba it seemed that kiki being the one who
assembled the team she assembled them for her
own it felt like she assembled them for her own
selfish reasons you know for her to achieve her
own aim she didn’t really seem that concerned
about the um wrongs that had been done to the
other members of the team so i don’t know if that
was intentional but that’s kind of how it came off
her character came off as being a bit manipulative
which you know could actually be seen as a
good thing because it showed that the character
was a bit um dynamic lindau sifo lindau sifo’s
first stunt and her opening scene in this film
left me stunned i was shocked when i saw her roll
over the bonnet of a car and disarmed two men
that was really interesting it was dumb it caught
me unawares but um linda’s character in the film
as well had his score to settle with otunbari
naturally but i felt like her character could
have done with a bit more development because
with what happened to her it just felt like
there were several question marks and several
unanswered questions regarding her character in
the film erica in lewey i hope i pronounced her
son name right um erica played a character called
tomi ojo who by all indications was a euroba girl
and that surprised me a bit her opening scene in
this film i had my jaw on the floor if i’m being
honest because it reminded me of a period you know
in the big brother niger house well you know when
the show was on when the female housemates would
go about their day you know without undergarments
just you know living freely um so yeah that kind
of shocked me when i saw that on the screen but
i digress let me talk about erica’s performance
and be a professional america’s performance
wasn’t bad to be honest it was sufficient
for the kind of film that this was because and
this may sound a bit abstract but stay with me um
if you get it you get it this movie devil not in
a bada wasn’t trying to be something that it’s not
i believe that the filmmakers sought out to make
an action film that’s slightly over the top kind
of like charlie’s angels and if that was their
intention then i guess they achieved what they
sought to achieve and the performances in
this film erica’s included was sufficient
you know given the assignment or given the kind
of film that they were trying to make so erica’s
performance wasn’t out of place to be honest i
think it was appropriate for the kind of film that
this was i was also a bit worried that erica’s
star power would outshine the other you know
actors especially the other two lead actors
in this film ife and linda but surprisingly
the screen time was equally shared amongst all the
ladies and a lot of the other characters there was
a fair balance so i think yeah between that and
erica’s performance i think erica did actually
quite well in this film what i liked i like the
fact that the film was uh about a group of people
just getting vengeance you know taking matters
into their own hands and exacting vengeance on
corrupt a corrupt politician because i think
that’s a fantasy that a lot of people in this
part of the world have you know to be able
to take matters into our own hands and to
exact vengeance and to you know deal with some
people who have made life hard for the average
man so yeah that element made the film quite
relatable in my opinion what i didn’t like
this film will have you confused at certain
points and you’ll be making faces like
what wait what wait when how where and the fact is
that there are certain points in this movie where
the film will be flowing from point a to point b
all of a sudden it will stop it will go back it
will stop again and it’ll start moving towards the
finish line again and you’ll be like but wait why
why did we stop why did that happen why did we
go back shouldn’t this have already happened
for example the girls meet up you know initially
and then they have several meetings after that
and you assume as a viewer that okay they’ve
they have a common purpose and they’re now a team
but then a few scenes later linda sifo’s character
has a bad dream and she wakes up and she calls if
his character and says you know i’m in i mean
like i’m in the team and then you the viewer
you’re like but you’ve been in the team you guys
have had like five strategy sessions at this point
you know you’ve already been in the team all
this while why are you now saying that i’m
in also the plan that they spend so much time
trying to put together it never really seems
quite clear or apparent what exactly the
plan was um it’s a bit confusing especially
when they’re trying to carry out the plan
so yeah those are a couple of things that
confused me about the film or that i didn’t like
another thing that i didn’t like was the dialogue
i wouldn’t get into it but i’ll just say i didn’t
like the dialogue who should see it um erica fans
i mean i think if you love erica if you’re a big
fan of hers then i think you’ll really enjoy this
film um also if you’re the kind of person who
watches a lot of africa magic or african noli
and maybe you’re the type who sits down and you
can just stumble on a movie and watch it from
beginning to end on any of those channels then
i think you’ll enjoy this film too but if you
don’t fall in any of those two categories i would
advise that you seek the opinion of someone else
you know as to you know whether or not you should
see this film just to get a balanced view about
the movie and when you do so maybe do so in the
privacy of your dms so in summary guys i think i
enjoyed it i mean i laughed i may not have been
laughing for the reasons why they wanted me to
laugh but at least i laughed and if i laugh that
means i enjoyed myself and if i enjoyed myself
that means it was money well spent so yeah take
