DJI OSMO MOBILE 6 smartphone gimbal iPhone & Android | IN DEPTH REVIEW

Ahoy DJI om5 is no longer the newest DJI smartphone gimbal DJI osmo mobile 6 is out they are going back to the full name osmo mobile 6. what has been edit or is it practically the same thing how is this stabilization is it worth upgrading are the motors stronger and what can you load on this is there a new app Apple phones get a lot of features how about Android phones and who is this exactly for for the new faces my name is esden Carrera I have reviewed DJI osmo mobile 2 3 4 and om5

so I’m very familiar with the DJI products none of those videos were sponsored by DJI I always buy them myself even DJI osmo mobile 6. if you are interested in smartphone filmmaking and want to see tutorials and behind the scenes videos consider subscribing I also have a smartphone filmmaking course link is in the video description below so feel free to check it out I will be using two phones in this video one is iPhone 14 pro and then later on in this video I will show you DJI memo app on Android but now let’s continue

with Apple let’s take a look at these two gimbals side by side what has changed well the obvious is a color I actually like the darker

color as it is less noticeable it simply doesn’t scream for attention that much the body is now a tiny bit longer and a few grams heavier however it is still very Compact and small the whole button interface has changed as well and that is a good thing I’ll get to it in a bit what also changed is the battery type capacity is the same however you get a tiny bit

less operating time than before it’s now 6 hours and 24 minutes under ideal conditions and charging time is a few minutes less as well one hour and 24 minutes to have the gimbal fully charged what also changed slightly is the mechanical range when it comes to pen and roll tilt is exactly the same Maxon payload is 292 grams compatible phone width is 67 to 84 millimeters and thickness is 6.9 to 10 millimeters it’s exactly the same as before let’s take a look at the clamp now that one has been improved and that’s a very much

needed Improvement it’s way deeper now I feel like the phone is not going to fall out it certainly has way better grip and if you feel that the phone wants to slip out you can place these pads which are also included there is also pouch and charging cable in a package now that the clamp is installed the way it should be in the center of the phone let’s turn the gimbal on and here comes another new feature when you open up the clamp the gimbal will automatically turn on then you just attach the phone the

magnetic clamp is very strong it’s not going to fall off I know that some of you are worried and have passed I never had a problem with the previous version if you don’t attach the phone right away the gimbal goes to sleep mode and eventually it will turn off when you place your phone in it will automatically balance itself if you remove the phone it will also go to sleep mode and once you fold it it will shut off that is an interesting feature and it certainly speeds up the setup process one little Annoying Thing

I found is that now that the clamp is so deep if you’re going to be using the phone without the case and you have it in this horizontal position and you need to read few emails close the app and go back to filming app you have a super hard time getting to the line to close the app as the clamp is in a way you have to turn the phone vertically close the app and then turn it back horizontally if you will be using a case on the phone there is no more of that problem

because now the clamp is not so deep anymore just so you know DJI osmo mobile 6 has the same expandable selfie stick as the previous version which you can tilt up to 90 degrees let’s talk about the new interface and buttons before we dive in into the DJI memo app good news is that now you can switch gimbal modes in any app you don’t have to necessarily use the GI memo and you will also see what mode you are in directly on this new display the M button here works as a power button and also

modes button you’ve got here follow mode two o’clock mode fpv and spin shot and if you press and hold the trigger in the back you will enter lock mode and if you press the trigger and press again and hold you will enter sports mode so now you can film a native camera app in cinematic mode and you don’t have to always go back to DJI memo the switch the gimbal mode if you are wondering about the new wheel which works both as a zoom and a focus wheel that unfortunately Works only in Digi ji memo

in fact none of the gimbals I have here which have that kind of a wheel have the ability to control the zoom in Native camera app it just doesn’t work you have to always use the gimbals app joystick is the same you move the gimbal around or you can navigate through quick settings in DJI memo trigger is also the same press once to start and stop tracking mode which is only available in DJI memo press two times to RECenter press and hold is lock mode and press and press and hold is sports mode lastly the

record button is for taking photos and videos and if you press and hold you can take Burst Mode photos and yes this works in Native camera app as well one of the most frequently asked questions I get is if you can see the motor in a shot while filming with ultra wide angle lens now I have installed the clamp according to the manual right in a center and if I’m filming with Native camera app no I cannot see the motor interestingly though when I’m filming in DJI amiibo and I move left and right yeah I

can see a bit of a motor what’s the solution just move the phone a bit to the left the gimbal will balance it just fine I did this with previous gimbals always working fine in photo mode you can visibly see the motor in either app if you are using Ultra wide angle lens so you need to remove it from the gimbal it’s time to do stabilization test I’m gonna be using for this one DJI memo app so here is a hard walk soft deep in the niche type of walk helping to stabilize the movement even

more and full speed run there are four operating modes with this gimbal upright mode just like this under select mode which will help with very low angle shots side remote and low position mode for using the extendable selfie stick here you will rotate the elbow 90 degrees the overall performance of this gimbal is definitely better than the previous version it feels like the motors are a lot stronger especially the pan motor in the previous version when you were moving the pan motor it felt like there are little stops it was not smooth now it is

super smooth I don’t feel those stops and it’s actually super silent before you could hear that little sound but now nothing it’s super silent range of movement is quite similar as before this is pan movement this is tilt which is quite limiting there is a very little movement there so you have to do lots of movement yourself with your body to get the range you need raw movement has slightly changed however you can still see the motor in the shot at one point so you need to crop it in the post DJ mimo app is

exactly the same as before for those who are new into this let’s just quickly recap what features are available first I’m going to be using Apple phone and then I’m going to show the app on Android on Apple phone you can film an automatic and manual mode you can film 24 25 30 and 60 frames per second in 4k 1080P and 720p beauty mode is available if you will be filming in 1080P or 720p in 24 25 and 30 frames per second you can film in Dolby Vision HDR gesture control and face tracking feature 5.0

yes the tracking feature has been updated on this gimbal so it should be better with longer distances let’s test it I personally know someone who’s been using DJI om5 for filming athletes and had problems with tracking those athletes when they were running for long distances shut so let’s do similar testing and see if it is any better I’m going to be walking to the side but I’m also gonna back up and try to do some shots from distance many of you keep asking if the tracking is available outside of DJ mimo app like in filmic

Pro or native camera app unfortunately none of those gimbals I have here have that available you have to always use the gimbus app for tracking mode except one and that is hohem I studyv2 just because it has this dedicated camera directly on a gimbal that one can do tracking in any app as I reviewed that gimbal in a past as well I’m gonna link it below for those interested let’s return to DJI amimo you can film pre-design stories you can take three by three 240 degrees and clomy panorama photos regular photos you can record videos

eight times slow motion in 1080P dynazoom time lapses motion lapses and hyperlapses which can be all filmed in automatic and manual mode there are also useful shot guides for beginners which will show you moves you can try the new feature is this zoom and focus wheel when you are going to press this wheel you can switch between zoom and focus let’s look at the focus I’m finding the wheel quite smooth as the wheel is very tiny someone who has big hands might find a little bit difficult to operate it if you want to switch lenses

you will need to tap on those big dots on the screen let’s try the zoom Zoom is smooth and there is a little jump every time it switches the lens it reacts very fast so if you want to do slower Zoom you have to be quite patient and really good with fingers you cannot change the speed in the menu you can only change the speed of the joystick and follow speed of Motors let’s take a look at the Android phones first of all DJI memo is no longer available in a Google app store you have

to go directly to DJI website to download the app if you are going to be using Android phone you are not going to be able to film in manual mode only in automatic and only in 30 frames per second in 4k 1080P and 720P I can also see that on this phone which is Samsung Galaxy S10 plus I can phone with ultra wide angle lens or standard lens I cannot get the telephoto lens further Zoom is purely digital I also cannot film in slow motion but everything else is the same as on Apple phone another

strong feature which DJI memo offers is a built-in video editor it has pre-design templates where you can insert your clips and it automatically edits it for you or you can do pro mode where you can edit your own video it has enough controls to edit videos easily there is a new app which DJI suggests and that is called light cup all you do is select your clips and it will use AI feature which will edit the video for you by selecting one of their templates there are many graphics and stickers over the videos so at

first I was a bit skeptical about this but then I noticed that on many templates you can turn the sticker off so you end up with clean edited video and that I personally like you can change the templates to any of those there are vertical and horizontal you have also the freedom to edit this further with very basic controls such as extract crop replace volume delete text sort and end I actually like it if you are somewhere on a day trip or somewhere out and you happen to film something and and you quickly want to

share it on Facebook or social media or with your friends and family it takes only a few minutes to select the clip template and upload it to Facebook I like it what can you load on this gimbal well the maximum payload is 290 grams and DJI suggests not to go over the maximum payload you can use these counterweights and very lightweight filters the best thing is to weigh your setup at home and see if you fit below 290 grams if you will be using additional accessories such as filters and microphones DJI offers two more accessories

which can be purchased separately and used with DJI osmo mobile 6. one item is a fill Light phone clamp and another one is a high quality dual Channel microphone and again I’m going to link all that in a video description below give it a thumbs up if you found this video informative and don’t forget to subscribe for more I’ve got some really interesting items coming up in the next two months one of them is Cinematic and Landscape filter set for iPhones in that one I’m gonna also do a giveaway and there is also this external

lenses Pro Set for smartphones if you have any questions want to say hello or hi leave it below as you know I always read it all and always respond see you in the next video ciao
