Ecomat 2000 Heizlüfter im Faltcaravan-Praxistest

The most valuable player in a team sport is chosen for his performance in
a season as the “Most Valuable Player” or MVP for short. If we were to do the same for our last year’s
trailer setup, the Ecomat 2000 would definitely be the MVP of the 2021 camping season.
The ultra-compact fan heater actually just became part of our setup in the summer, as we used
our Dyson fan, which conveniently had an integrated fan heater,
replaced by air conditioning in order to be prepared for future heat waves.
The sole task of the Ecomat 2000 in the summer was therefore to occasionally
switch on automatically at night when the temperature fell below 20 degrees,
so that our children, who are not yet snuggling up on their own, are always warm.
During our two-week autumn adventure near Venice, however, we had already
expected that with temperatures around 20 degrees during the day, we
would have to rely on the Ecomat every night, so we had organized a second model just to be on the safe side.
But the predicted 20 degrees during the day quickly became a dream and at night
the temperatures even fell to 7 degrees Celsius in the second week. However,
despite everything, it always stayed warm at least a pleasant 20 degrees

in the tent of our folding caravan.
Which we owe solely to the Ecomat 2000. And that’s why
in this video we’re taking a closer look at the little Rubik’s Cube, which almost
single-handedly saved our autumn vacation and thus deservedly became our MVP.
The Ecomat 2000 is a small cube that is 14 centimeters wide, 14.5 centimeters deep and 18 centimeters
high and weighs around 2.2 kilograms. Inside the robust,
powder-coated aluminum housing, which also has an
integrated carrying handle, there is a powerful ceramic heating element and
a ball-bearing axial fan, which is designed for temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius.
Although the ceramic heating element does not pose any risk of fire, the Ecomat 2000
was also equipped with an automatic switch-off in the form of one of the feet, which ensures
that it switches off immediately if it is knocked over.
All of the electronics are also explicitly designed for continuous operation, because the Ecomat
2000 is also intended to be used as a frost protection monitor, among other things .
All models of the Ecomat 2000 have a total of three adjustable power levels
with appropriate protection, so that they can also be used on any campsite
. The lowest level is 450 watts at around 2 amps, the middle level is 750 watts at
around 4 amps and the highest level is 1500 watts at up to 10 amps. If you remove the filter,
even 1800 watts would be possible, but then dust accumulates in the device itself,
which is why this type of operation is not recommended by the manufacturer or by us.
Regardless of the power level selected, the desired room temperature can then be set via an electronic
thermostat, which incidentally also
conceals the frost guard position already mentioned. A single Ecomat 2000 is
designed to heat a normally insulated room with a volume of 60-80 cubic meters,
which of course cannot be transferred 1:1 to a less well insulated trailer tent.
If you are already satisfied with the range of functions mentioned
so far, you can confidently choose the “Classic” model,
which is currently available for 279 euros or 298 Swiss francs.
The next best model in the form of the “Classic Plus” has – as the name already suggests
– an additional plus function, which ensures
that the room can be warmed up a little faster when it’s cold,
and costs 309 euros respectively 335 Swiss francs.
The top model called “Select” even has a two-stage plus function,
an additional quiet function, which also switches the fan off completely
if heating is not required, as well as three operating indicator lights,
which you can use to read directly in the dark which functions are currently activated.
In addition to the standard anthracite, ruby red can also
be selected as a color variant exclusively for the “Select” model. The most expensive Ecomat 2000 easily costs 389 euros or
440 Swiss francs and weighs 100 grams more than the other two models.
Incidentally, anyone who uses their Ecomat 2000 primarily in salty air,
e.g. on a boat or likes to stay at campsites near the sea,
can optionally select the offshore version for all three models,
which, however, costs 34 euros or 35 Swiss francs in addition to the book beats.
This also brings me directly to the accessories for the Ecomat 2000. Among other things, there is a
set of 5 replacement filter mats for around 8 euros or 9 Swiss francs. Even if we
usually only use one filter per holiday, we always have a spare with us, which was
an advantage on our last, slightly sandy holiday, since replacing the
filter mat in good time prevents a reduction in heating output or even the failure of the heating system.
There is also a padded bag for just under 29 euros or 33 Swiss francs,
in which we stow our Ecomats during travel and vacation breaks, as they
also have a practical inner compartment for filters and the instructions,
although the latter can be safely used can leave at home, since the device is basically self-explanatory.
Last but not least, there is also a universal bracket
with which the fan heater can be permanently installed
for just under 50 euros or 59 Swiss francs. However, there is no
need for it in our trailer tent and due to the button layout of the “Select” model we use,
in contrast to the “Classic” and “Classic Plus” it is not compatible with the holder at all.
However, I also like to admit at this point that the “Classic Plus” model
would have been completely sufficient from our point of view, since the quiet function was
never active in the cold off-season and we didn’t
really change the settings after the first few days of vacation have adapted, which also made the indicator lights somewhat redundant.
But that’s enough facts and figures about the different models. Let’s take a look at
how and, above all, where the two Ecomat heating cubes were used during
our autumn adventure in the trailer tent.
One of them stood on our camping cupboard in the living room or
main tent to keep it warm throughout the day and
was aimed directly at the children’s bedroom at night.
The second Ecomat sat on the table in the dining room or awning throughout the day to keep it
and primarily me warm during work. During the night, this
also wandered to the camping cupboard in the living room and was directed towards our bedroom.
Of course, like in the summer, I also had the radio weather station with me with its three
radio sensors, so that I could log the temperature at a total of four locations at the same time. The
weather station itself was in the living room, the first sensor in the children’s bedroom,
the second sensor in the dining room and the third sensor outside in the kitchen.
Let’s take a closer look at the whole thing using a random sample over a
period of 24 hours from October 9th to 10th, 2021. At 8 a.m.
in the morning we had a comfortable 25 degrees Celsius in the living room or main tent,
in the bedroom or bedroom 23.5 degrees for our children,
14.7 degrees in the unheated dining room or awning and outside in the kitchen 10.8 degrees Celsius.
The minimum values over a 24-hour period were just
over 24 degrees in the living room, almost 23 degrees in the bedroom,
around 14 degrees in the dining room and 10.7 degrees outside in the kitchen. Only a few days later, the outside temperatures at
night dropped to as much as 7 degrees.
After getting up I put one of the Ecomats back in the dining room
and it was already pleasantly warm when I
came back from going to the toilet in the morning and started work while the rest of the family was still in bed.
At this point, however, I must also emphasize that we were on a campsite with
a 10 ampere power connection and therefore the two Ecomats were each only
operated with 750 watts, so that we could work in combination with the cool box, the light and all other devices that
were charged overnight were not in danger of blowing the fuse.
So it may well be that on a campsite with a 16 ampere power connection, even a single
Ecomat fan heater would be sufficient for the 18 square meter main tent of the Camp-let Passion,
if it is set to its maximum 1500 or 1800 watts
. Maybe I can verify this on another occasion.
However, we will stay with two Ecomats for the time being anyway, so that we can
heat two rooms at the same time, i.e. I don’t have to freeze in the morning when working in the awning,
while the rest of the family can sleep in a little longer and enjoy the holiday.
So now you know how we keep our trailer tent warm even in the low season.
If you are still wondering why we have recently
been carrying a mobile air conditioner with us in the summer and how this has performed in
practical tests and also chased away all the mosquitoes,
then watch the following video. If you liked this test report, please give it
a thumbs up, otherwise we’ll see you again soon in a new video.
See you next time and happy camping!
