How the weekend rain is impacting the Coca-Cola 600

Alright Brittany, thank you. The 64th running of the Coca-Cola 600 still set for today after yesterday’s races were awash because of the rain. Wake up Charlotte’s Jesse. Pierre joins us live in Concord at the Charlotte Motor Speedway with what fans can expect. Jesse, how are conditions out there? Well, you know, I’ve been here for the past hour and it’s like it go if it rains for a little bit and then it stops and it rains a little bit more. So it’s really hard to tell and I’m really feeling for the fans now. If the weather

can stay dry enough where the race cars to hit the track, then NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 will be a go tonight. If not, then fans can expect to see more races postponed again. Really feeling for the fans today now people, 10s of thousands of people traveled from all over the world. Come and enjoy these NASCAR races and all of the festivities, but the wet weather has been a damper all weekend. Now. Speedway crews work to keep the track dry, but no luck against Mother Nature and the steady rain that has been coming down. The NASCAR Xfinity

Series race was moved to Monday and NASCAR Cup Series practice and qualifying races for the Coca-Cola 600 were cancelled yesterday. Now there is a team of folks keeping their

eye on the weather because the track does need to be. Completely dry for the race to go on, and it takes about two hours to drive the track completely once the rain stops. And Speedway officials tell me for the second year in a row, today’s race was sold out. There’s nothing else in the Mid-Atlantic that takes place on an annual basis that has the type of fan

support, economic impact, bringing people in for so many different places to stay multiple days as the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. So again, I’ve been here for the past hour when I before my live shots, there wasn’t really too much rain coming down and it’s getting a little bit heavier now and that’s kind of what I’ve been experiencing all morning. But here are some of the things folks can enjoy this morning. The Circle K Speed St. will open at 10:00 AM That’s the fan zone that has a bunch of different activities. There’s also a

concert planned this afternoon, so that will open at 10:00 AM and the spectator gates will open at 2:30 PM. Now as far as the rescheduled. Cases for Monday if a fan or if a person who has a ticket holder cannot attend Mondays Mondays race, they can exchange their ticket for a ticket of equal or lesser value toward any other Speedway motor sports NASCAR event. And you could actually head to our website wcnc.com for all of those details. Now we will kind of we will do our best to keep you updated with any changes for the

race today or any updates. Just make sure you head to our website for that live in Concord trying to stay dry. To get back to you, Jesse Pierre, WCNC, Charlotte.
