iPhone 14 PRO Review | It's Great BUT…

today we’re taking a look at the iPhone 14 pro it’s perhaps one of the most anticipated phones Apple have released we’ve seen the introduction of a brand new 48 megapixel camera the notorious notches had a significant update and we’ve also seen the introduction of a long time Android feature always on display all of these features make it a compelling option for anyone looking to upgrade but is it worth buying the design of the iPhone 4 in Pro is very similar to last year’s iPhone 13 Pro we’ve got the same steel banding around the edges and

the matte glass over on the back the slight variation is a weight with a 2 gram difference between the 14 pro and the 13 Pro with the 14 pro being slightly heavier the other area that’s different this year is the camera bump is both wider and higher on the 14 pro overall it’s what you’d expect from Apple a real premium feeling handset I bought the 14 pro in space black which I think is really clean and it almost changes color slightly depending on the lighting conditions in your environment we’ve got the same super retina 120

hertz OLED xdr display as last year with a 2556 by 1000 179 resolution providing an overall DPI of 460. the main difference this year is that we have 2 000 nits

of peak brightness versus 1200 nits of peak brightness on the iPhone 13 Pro which is great for those brighter days the biggest and perhaps most talked about change with the screen is what Apple has named Dynamic Island Dynamic island is this pill-shaped Notch used to house the true depth camera system it’s a really interesting interface solution to an unavoidable Hardware constraint due to the position

however there is no doubt going to be times when you cover the front-facing camera with fingerprints but I can say that I haven’t had any issues with the fingerprints affecting face ID the dynamic Island integrates well with Native apps and notifications such as letting you know your airpods have connected to your phone or even high level directions when using the maps app Dynamic Island also integrates with a few third-party apps as well such as Spotify where it will display what’s currently playing but in reality we haven’t gained anything extra in terms of ease of use

when accessing controls the real value of dynamic island is in real time alone such as the timer app where you can actively see the status of the timer and quickly access the controls to cancel or pause it whilst you’re doing something else being honest the functionality of dynamic Island at the moment feels quite limited but it will be interesting to see how the overall functionality advances over time as more third-party apps begin to integrate in terms of overall screen real estate we don’t gain that much considering the area above the notch is unusable it also

intrudes a little bit more as it’s positioned slightly further down the screen but overall a fun new addition with some future potential for me the always on display is a welcome feature to the iPhone this year it’s great to be able to get a glance at the time and view what’s happening while the phone sits on the desk also being able to see new notifications without picking up the phone you can even see what music is playing via your favorite music streaming app even when the display has dimmed this has been available on Android for

a long time but often it is a black screen which shows the time and a few notification icons one thing to be aware of is that the always on display will use up your battery faster but when the phone is in your pocket or put on a Surface face down it will turn off the display automatically all of the cameras have received an upgrade this year except for the telephoto lens we’ve seen the introduction of Apple’s new image processing technology called photonic engine photonic engine uses the iPhone 4 in Pros Hardware machine learning and software

to enhance your photos so you will see a difference with photos taken with the standard telephoto lens the main camera has been upgraded with the introduction of a brand new 48 megapixel sensor and these images are mind-blowing to say they come out of a phone the large sensor captures so much extra detail and you can definitely tell the 48 megapixel images are only available in the Pro raw setting which does mean you’re going to be using up a lot more storage some of the file sizes that Pro raw producers are huge here is the difference

between a 48 megapixel photo and the same 12 megapixel version you’ll notice that when I take a 48 megapixel photo you get this animation for a slower shutter which is part of the processing so just something to bear in mind if you snap in lots of photos all at once as this probably won’t suit you however when taking 12 megapixel photos you get the standard shut adjusters before the ultrawide lens has an improved sensor so you will notice a slight difference in quality from the iPhone 13 Pro the iPhone 14 pro also features a new

front-facing camera which again is a slightly upgraded sensor which is going to give you that extra bit of quality and auto focus too one feature I was really excited about and I’ve been experimenting with quite a lot is that we now have 4K capabilities in video cinematic mode which is a nice addition we’ve had a decent upgrade with a 3200 milliamp battery compared with the 3095 milliamp battery on the iPhone 13 Pro Apple claims there have been some enhancements to the hardware to provide even longer battery life unfortunately there are no definitive answers for how

long the battery will last because obviously it depends on your own usage but according to Phone Arena their testing showed that the iPhone 14 pro lasted longer than the iPhone 13 Pro when it came to video streaming just under an hour longer they claim you can achieve just under two hours more when it comes to web browsing against the iPhone 13 Pro and it was actually just under three hours less than the iPhone 13 Pro when it came to 3D gaming which is interesting to be completely honest personally I haven’t seen any significant difference in

my day-to-day battery performance however I don’t use the iPhone for gaming I’d say that if you have the iPhone 13 Pro there isn’t much you’re missing out on the only significant difference is the 48 megapixel camera which as mentioned if you’re not interested in shooting in Pro raw or like to take lots of photos all at once you’re not going to get any real benefit however if you’re coming from one of the older models and are looking for your next upgrade with these brand new cameras and the improved battery the iPhone 14 pro could be

a great option if you made it to the end drop an iPhone 14 pro in the comments and I’ll give you a comment a thumbs up thank you for watching and I’ll see you in the next one
