POCO M4 5G Review & Unboxing

POCO has another release and it’s the m45g so we’ve already had the m4 pro which i have reviewed and covered and normally they release the well the standard version first then the pro but they’re kind of doing it the other way around here for some reason anyway this is an affordable phone so it’s no flagship it’s not a mid-range phone it’s low-end but we do get a reasonably good chipset with this it’s the demensity 700. so it has a 6.58 inch screen which is a 90 hertz ips screen it’s got a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack

18 watt charging large 5 000 milliamp hour battery 13 megapixel camera and in the cutout in the front screen that’s a 5 megapixel one so i’ll let you know the full pros and cons and what you can expect out of the poco m45g and this is what you’ll find in the box so i’ll charger this is a nice small size now it is 22.5 watts however the phone only charges at 18 watts and it is really slow now for 2022. how slow well it took about 2 hours and 38 minutes to fully charge the 5

000 milliamp hour battery what else is included we do get a case which is great to see so it’s a clear tpu style case a bit of paperwork here so a quick start

guide safety information and warranty card there is nothing else in the box so they don’t include any headphones or anything like that now this is a affordable phone so i’m not going to forget that in this review here but it does feel like we’ve gone back about five years so plastic on the back here does pick up smudges and fingerprints it does have

a texture to it now if you’re going to be using this in winter with cold hands it will be quite slippery so you probably want to put that tpu case on it that they do include now i’ve intentionally not wiped it down i’ve been using it for a few days you can see there are smudges everywhere and we do have a very shiny plastic on the black back of it here sorry that will be very prone to scratches so just a 13 megapixel camera and then a camera therefore depth for portrait shots and our flash

poker branding of course and 5g just in case you forgot it was not a 5g phone well it is of course with that dimension 700 does support 5g so our screen here is a 6.58 inch screen and it’s again going back in time a little bit here because it’s an ips we’ve got the larger bezels here now the brightness xiaomi claim is 500 nets with this but it’s actually a little bit lower you’re looking at around about 430 at least with mine in direct sunlight it is very hard to make out the screen so up

here in the cutout we have a front facing camera that is 5 megapixels now all of these cameras i just want to warn you right now they do not have any electronic image stabilization then they only shoot 108 1080p 30 frames per second max there is no 1080p 60 or 4k which is kind of strange because that dimension 700 does actually support it so with this build it’s all plastic plastic frame and if you hold it here and just look on the right side there are our buttons so they’re plastic now the fingerprint reader it

is a good point of this phone that it’s always on capacitive and it’s normally pretty quick you can see then that okay that was maybe a little slow so it’s about a second just over not the quickest it’s definitely not flagship performance nor would you expect that so the full hd plus ips panel here is covered with gorilla glass now they don’t state what version but i do think it is gorilla glass three probably that they have gone with so it is about nine millimeters the thickness of this phone and does weigh 200 grams we

got our type c port so just the well 18 watt charging that said even though the charge is 22 microphone and single downwards firing loudspeaker so there’s no loudspeaker in the earpiece up the top here we do at least get an ir transmitter and a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack with reasonable audio coming out of it now the sim tray i do like it’s one of those three slot ones so we have two nano sims and micro sd card support so that’s great because you don’t have to give up on one of those sims if you

intend to run dual sims just a bit more on that display that it is low end it’s an ips at least it is full hd plus resolution not at 720p we don’t want to be seeing that at all in 2020 too so standard there it looks more correct for me uh saturated and vivid is how it is out of the box which has quite a blue tint to it so you’re going to see also a little bit of darker areas just around the outside with the screen better than mine it’s it’s not an oled which

will have more uniform color there so we do have other options so you’ve got your dark schedule mode that you can put on refresh rate now i recommend to put this on to 90 just force it to 90 that’s what i’ve done 60 can sometimes feel a little slow but at even 90 hertz sometimes it’s clearly not running the ui at 90 frames per second occasionally i see frame dips with gestures and things like just then like a few little animation lags and often when you swipe here over to the left okay that’s because it’s

already cached but when i do bring that up i do notice that sometimes that oh hang on that’s choking away it’s stuttering away should i say not choking but it gets yeah a little bit laggy and just bringing up all your apps there you can see sometimes so youtube i just wanted to demonstrate too that i noticed that oh okay it’s getting a little bit better now uh it seems at first it was quite laggy at times with the scrolling but no this is actually performing all right it could have been something to do with

the connection so overall rom performance of course that is running me ui 12 13 sorry based off android 12 and it seems to be running fast enough i can clearly tell what it looks to me like the settings and other menus some of them are only running at 60 frames per second even though the refresh rate is at 90 but hey for an affordable phone i think performance is okay for what you’ll be paying for this by the way at the time of me recording this review review i don’t actually know the price of this

but i do have an idea now unfortunately poco is still doing this a lot of bloatware how much well 2.29 gigabytes worth of just rubbish that you need to uninstall i know it doesn’t take long but still i don’t like to see this much bloatware and i really don’t like to see this advertising so when you go to install an app you get an advert when you go and just run the cleaner some other system apps you’ll see advertising not great to see and this is very interesting they’ve given it a 256 kilobit per second

audio bitrate for video whereas some of their mid-range phones and even flagships are using 96 so this gets a better bitrate the cheapest phones out there compared to their flagships i know i am crossing my face as well like what is going on but anyway so we have api level here with camera two api all full you want level three and it’s a mediatek so you could have a bit more difficulty finding gcam ports and we do have a wi-fi level one cert good to see now internal storage very good ufs 2.2 this is one

area where the storage is really quick no complaints from me about that especially considering the price so fast storage and uh pretty good decent speed too from the demand city 700. so you can get a cpu score there of nearing 100 000 points gpu is pretty decent as well and look at this beta gets warm running this test so geekbench 5 run this on your own phone if you want this benchmarks to compare to see if you’re gaining performance or maybe this is even slower who knows and what about a stress test here so i

stressed it out and ran it for 15 minutes you can see the performance drops down to about 80 percent then back up to around 90 straight away so it doesn’t throttle much at all and again the thermals are excellent i’ll show you later on with gaming that uh it performs quite well the dimension 700. so charge time very very slow 10 to 100 took 2 hours and 38 minutes yes it is slow 18 watts uh i really wish they had faster charging on this but hey it is what it is and it is a more

affordable device so obviously corners have been cut battery life at 90 hertz well this is a synthetic test but you can compare it to my other reviews for a 5 000 milliamp hour battery it’s actually not really that good real life world you see you’re looking at well if you drag it right out with very light kind of phone tasks you’re not gaming you get over about eight hours so it’ll make it through a full day and remember it’s going to be very slow to charge it so you’re going to have to do that at

night when you go to bed audio very quickly here there’s some good and there’s some bad the good is we’ve got fm radio we do have 3.5 millimeter headphone support the quality doesn’t sound as good as the qualcomm powered devices from xiaomi from poco so for some reason the mediatek here i don’t think is quite well as optimized but hey the sound is still reasonably good but let’s get on to the other one and that is the voice call quality so it does not seem to have any active noise cancellation there’s no secondary mic to

me it doesn’t seem that amazing the call quality it’s okay at best really and we’ve just got a single downwards firing loudspeaker it’s pretty average i won’t even bother giving you a sample it’s loud enough uh but you know it’s not wonderful shame that there’s no secondary loudspeaker in the earpiece here so audio is not really a strength apart from the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack finally gaming everyone’s favorite here pubg you can run smooth or balance with the ultra frame rate setting but if you go on to hd or anything higher unfortunately you lose that

so you want to keep it on that ultra to get the best possible frame rate let’s jump into some gameplay now and see how the dimension 700 performs now i have one kill already and the frame rate has been very good so it’s really smooth no problems looking down the iron sights it’s not lagging out you can aim you can shoot you can get your kills i have noticed that sometimes the screen i wouldn’t call it as being super responsive or accurate when you get up to like a crate and you need to click on

that little icon to look inside the crate there i’ve had to tap the screen quite a few times sometimes to be able to do that a really good performance and even though that speaker is not amazing just a single speaker it is very loud at least so they got a good volume with the speaker so good gaming performance if you play a lot of pubg call of duty just use the lower settings and you will have no problems so thermals it’s getting a little warm around here but it’s not even warm enough that no i

don’t need to break out my thermal imaging camera at all with this it’s running just fine here so that’s the best part about this phone is definitely the density 700 moving over to the cameras now with the poco m4 so the front facing camera here it’s just 1080p 30 frames per second you can see as i walk about a little bit here that there is no electronic image stabilization so you will need a gimbal to get some nice steady shots so disappointing quality here the definitely the key area of disappointment for me is the cameras

i mean it’s an affordable device here but it does not come with a good set of cameras as you will see very quick camera sample of the rear camera now you can record 1080p 30 that is it and we’re back to 2014 because this quality well look at it it’s not great at all now the audio bit rates 256 kilobits per second on their affordable phone yet with some of their flagships they use 96 doesn’t make any sense at all so no electronic image stabilization it does shake all over the place the focus seems to

be okay in daylight and some photo samples so not really great cameras i’ll just show you just a few things here is my cat vera and this flower looks okay that’s not too bad one of the better shots from the 13 megapixel rear camera but when it comes to portrait selfies just way too harsh it’s over sharpening that five megapixel sensor washed out colors here not great either this is indoors by the way and not looking too good and the focus seems to be a little bit off here so that’s the rear camera again 30

megapixel yet again so okay it’s just like a camera set up from five six years ago uh indoors again here so pretty average now low light performance let’s get on to that that’s where things are pretty bad so that’s just normal shot the night shot adds even more noise this is just the normal mode and then our night shot no better really so poor cameras so there we have it a rather basic affordable phone so it’s the price point which is the attractive part but also the chipset that it’s a quite good solid chipset that

to mencity 700 gaming performance is fairly decent very good internal storage speeds and it does have the 90 hertz at least with that average ips panel the rest of the package is just that it is really quite average we’ve got poor cameras really especially if you record a lot of video well there’s no electronic image stabilization so there we go after this video i hope you do have more of a full idea of what you can expect out of the poco m4 5g thanks a lot for watching
