Promising Young Woman | Review | No Spoilers | 2020 Movie Explained

I can not stop thinking about this movie.
Hey, what’s up guys welcome to Dyligent Picks
and today I’m very excited to talk about Promising
Young Woman.
This is a film that I’ve wanted to see for
quite a while and it’s finally available for,
you know, a pretty good price to either rent
or buy the film is a first feature directorial
debut for Emerald Fennell, and it tells the
story of a woman named Cassie, played by Carey
Mulligan, and how she is in a difficult place
in her life, dealing with trying to, I guess,
get some kind of revenge, a situation that
happened to one of her best friends, we see
in the beginning she pretends to be drunk
in situations where a lot of these really
messed up guys, come around and try to take
advantage of her and then she goes ahead and
calls them out on it, so we see a very damaged
character who’s going through quite a lot,
and can’t quite let go of this situation,
things change a little bit however when she
meets a man named Ryan, played by Bo Burnham,
we see that Ryan seems like a pretty good
guy, and we learn quite a bit about their
history and

a lot of the people they knew,
back when they were both going to med school,
but once Cassie here’s the name of a certain
someone involved with what happened to her
friend Nina things definitely change, and
we kind of go on a really deep, dark rabbit
hole of revenge.
That Cassie attempts to inflict on all these
people who wronged her friend.
Now I knew I was going to like it, but I certainly
didn’t expect to enjoy it this much, now that
we’re in award season I saw this film popping
up everywhere, and it’s been nominated for
five Oscars including Director, Best Picture,
lead actress, screenplay and film editing,
and of all those, I think the most likely
one that we’re going to see is screenplay
and the writing is just top-notch on this
film, it has the difficult task of trying
to bridge the gap between a thriller and a
black comedy, but it does it so well with
smart dialogue and thoughtful ways of thinking
about different perspectives and kind of giving
you a better understanding of what is going
through in Cassie’s head when it comes to
any kind of similarity that I can truly pinpoint.
The only thing I could really come to was
maybe something similar to like an adult version
of 13 Reasons Why, mixed with a little bit
of Gone Girl, but not quite that on the violent
end.
But this film was so surprising especially
the ending, which I won’t spoil, I just want
to let you guys know that it’s one of those
things where you really think it’s about to
go a certain way, and you find out nope, we’re
gonna have a different ending, and I really
enjoyed how it was all put together.
I think that is like one of the biggest selling
points other than everything I’ve mentioned
so far, this is a film that I greatly enjoyed
and even though I had a good feeling that
I was going to like it.
It definitely surpassed my expectations and
now I’m having a really hard time deciding
what is my favorite film so far, especially
among the Best Picture nominees, I absolutely
love this film you guys and I would give it
a four and a half out of five, I highly recommend
you check it out if it’s your first time seeing
it, you can’t go wrong with trying to rent
it, either digitally, or on Blu ray, if you
really enjoy it, you got to pick it up because
this one is definitely going to be something
that people talk about for years to come.
And that’s why this film is a diligent pick.
So guys, what did you think of Promising Young
Woman, as always, my name is Dylan, and if

up before you go.
