Psycho (1960) ✦ My FIRST TIME WATCHING ✦ Reaction | Commentary | Review
hello everyone and happy Halloween it is so good to see you thank you so much for tuning in to the last movie of my inaugural K Halloween tonight I am watching Psycho from the year 1960 for the very first time if you are a returning viewer welcome back to the channel and if you’re new here my name is KL and on the 30 some years I’ve been on this planet there are way too many movies that I have not seen before so my channel is a place where I upload my reactions and let you know
what I think of all of these movies that I’ve missed out on if you have not yet seen the movies that I’ve watched for K Halloween so far this month there’ll be a Lincoln in the corner down in the description in the pinned comment to my playlist where you can go and get caught up on The Shining Halloween and the Silence of the Lambs which The Silence of the Lambs has definitely been my favorite of the movie so far I’m very interested to see where psycho is placed after we finish watching it tonight I will
do a ranking at the end of the video of these four movies and kind of how I would place them I think I already know
about it so you definitely don’t want to miss that so what do I know about psycho well after I watched Halloween I did you know the Wikipedia Ing and the Googling to read a little bit of like fun fact knowledge about Halloween and I learned that Jamie Lee Curtis’s mother is Janet Lee who is the female lead in this movie so I know that I also think that this is the movie where there is apparently some kind of iconic shower scene but I don’t know what happens and I have a feeling it’s not like the
good kind of shower scene if you know what I mean like most of my other reactions I have not watched the trailer I have not looked up the cast list aside from knowing Janet Lee isn’t it from Halloween and I have not read the synopsis so I’m going in pretty much with no knowledge whatsoever and that’s kind of how I prefer to watch my movies this is definitely the oldest movie so far that I’ll be reacting to for the channel so I am expecting that this film will be in black and white I don’t know

so we can be secreted I have to go Sam she is very beautiful and he is very handsome and attractive I mean whenever it’s possible I want to see you tired of sweating for people who aren’t there I swear to pay off my father’s debts and he’s in his grave I swear to pay my ex-wife alimony and she’s living on the other side of the world somewhere a couple of years mine debts will be paid off she remarries the other money stops I haven’t even been married once yet oh saying let’s get married when I
send my ex-wife for alimony you can lick the stamps all right and you want to cut this off go out and find yourself somebody available I’m thinking of it secret love but my question is why is it secret if he has an ex-wife well Marion when you get the copies of that deed ready for Mr Cassidy uh are you unhappy not inordinately I’m buying this house for my baby’s wedding present wow 40 000 cash imagine if houses are still that cheap though now there’s trucks that are like twice that price cash transaction of the size
is most irregular not so what it’s my private money where’s that bottle you said was in your desk oh sometimes I can keep my mouth shut she’s like okay I don’t even want it in the office over the weekend put it in a safe deposit box in the bank and we got him to give us a check on Monday instead yeah 40 the grand is a lot of money in the 60s Mr Laura if you don’t mind I’d like to go right on home after the bank I have a slide you go right on home
because me and your boss you’re going out and get ourselves a little drink and death I guess I’ll go put this money in the bank then go home and sleep it off uh this isn’t the bank Miss I think you forgot to stop okay this is all intentional of course oh my God that kind of money like barely fits in the purse Marion what in the world of course I’m glad to see you I always am did he really not recognize her it was like brief panic mode right there she fell asleep yes she did
hold it there quite a hurry yes I didn’t intend to sleep so long I almost had an accident last night from sleepiness so I decided to pull over have I broken any laws no ma’am and I’m free to go is anything wrong am I acting as if there’s something wrong frankly yes may I see a license why I don’t like this guy he’s freaking me out he didn’t even say like okay you’re free to go or anything just walks to his car the music in this film does remind me of the same music from Halloween
a little bit like different of course but similar like just randomly keeps playing you know I’m worried that this cop is gonna follow her and like follow her for a while please pass or or exit okay yeah okay good you you no no just go do your job no oh this isn’t good Marion you gotta look up gotta look up girl can I trade my car in and take another I’m in a hurry and I just want to make a change one thing people never ought to be when they’re buying used cars and that’s in
a hurry this isn’t good this is not good that’s so creepy why that’s the one I picked for you myself how much go ahead spinning around the block it looks fine how much would it be with my car it’s the first time the customer ever high pressured the salesman your car plus 700 uh you always got time to earn your money huh all right the dude’s like you’re the weirdest customer I’ve ever had oh I hate that can’t we just settle this I uh might as well be perfectly honest with you ma’am it’s not that
I don’t trust you but uh but what is there anything so terribly wrong about making a decision and wanting to hurry oh man all right let’s go inside can you leave please okay no that’s not leaving it’s not leaving hey just put it in here oh she didn’t grab her suitcase girl what are you doing do these three guys like know each other I better have a look at those papers Charlie the only funny thing she paid me 700 in cash mine’s still isn’t it no Mr Larry but then she’s always a bit late on
Monday mornings I really like these conversations that happen when she’s in the car girl works for you for 10 years you trust her ain’t about to kiss all forty thousand dollars I’ll get it back and if any of it’s missing I’ll replace it with our fine soft flesh I’ll track her whenever you doubt it wow you can’t see anything you’re basically just guessing where you’re driving Bates Motel looks Charming creepy house large house hello sorry I didn’t hear you in all this rain you have a vacancy oh we have 12 vacancies 12 cabins 12 eggs
they moved away the highway Oh I thought I’d gotten off the main road nobody ever stops here anymore unless they’ve done that Marie Samuels cabin one it’s closer in case you want anything right next to the office well sleep more than anything else except maybe food well the uh mattress is soft and there’s hangers in the closet and stationary with Bates Motel printed on it in case you want to make your friends back home feel none of yours over there the bathroom yeah why couldn’t you say bathroom that’s weird would you have dinner with me
I was just about to myself you know nothing special just sandwiches and milk I’d like to I’ll be back as soon as it’s ready so who is the woman in the house though better not be his wife oh I have a feeling this night at the motel is not going to go so well but I have no idea what is gonna happen I really hope that cop doesn’t somehow like track her down to this motel and do something that would suck are you really gonna put all that cash in a drawer in a motel should
keep that like in your suitcase somewhere just like wrap your underwear around it or something stuff it behind the things on the yeah this works I hope no I don’t know oh a mom ENT I love her I love this Mom you have the Dutch boy shut up shut up all right that conversation didn’t end up so good I’m worried about that newspaper sitting out in the open I feel like someone could easily just go grab it to be like hey I want to read the paper and then oh this is so cute hopefully it
doesn’t turn out to be a psychopath my mother she hasn’t quite herself today but as long as you’ve fixed a supper we may as well eat it might be uh nicer and warmer in the office you do be cute though I have the Parlor back here you’re very kind it’s all for you I’m not hungry go ahead foreign like a bird she literally took one bite I don’t really know anything about birds my hobby is stuffing things you know Taxidermy it’s a strange hobby uncommon too A man should have a hobby it’s more than a
hobby a hobby is supposed to pass the time not fill it a hobby can fill time well I ran the office attend the cabins and grounds and and do little uh errands for my mother do you go out with friends well a boy’s best friend is his mother she’s like okay I’m looking for a private island what are you running away from why do you ask that people never run away from anything I think that we’re all in our private traps and none of us can ever get out sometimes we deliberately step into those traps
I was born in mine I don’t mind it anymore you should mind it oh I do but I say I don’t been there if anyone ever talked to me the way I heard the way she spoke to you sometimes when she talks to me like that I feel I’d like to go up there and curse her and and leave her forever but I know I can’t she’s ill a few years ago mother met this man and he he talked her into building this Motel when he died too it was just too great a shock for
her and the way he died I guess there’s nothing to talk about while you’re eating did he die like very gruesomely she had nothing left except you a son is a poor substitute for our lover I’ll say is she gonna be like come with me because I feel like she might be who look after her she’d be alone up there if you love someone you don’t do that to them even if you hate them I don’t hate her I hate what she’s become I hate the illness wouldn’t it be better if you put her someplace
you mean an institution people always call them mad house someplace don’t they put her in some place all right this guy’s kind of freaked me out now I feel like maybe I don’t know what to think I am sorry it it seems she’s hurting you people always mean well I collect their thick tongues and shake their heads and suggest oh so very delicately of course I’ve suggested it myself she needs me she just goes a little mad sometimes we all go a little mad sometimes sometimes just one time can be enough thank you thank you
Norman I’m very tired and I’ll have a long drive tomorrow all the way back to Phoenix I stepped into a private trap back there I’d like to go back and try to pull myself out of it are you sure you wouldn’t like to stay just a little while longer I’d like to but all right oh that interaction got really weird at the end I don’t know how to feel he’s so friendly and Charming but then just certain statements you know oh there’s a reason he put her no no no no no no no no no
no no no no no no no I love how I was so worried that the cop was gonna be the baddie little did I know smart oh my God why wait was that his mom or was that him disguised as a woman I don’t know what the heck is going on okay so our main character is literally dead and we’ve got like half the movie left what the fuck but this means he’s gonna find the money oh wow mother oh God so was the mother I was not expecting a older woman to be the killer
in this movie wow I feel bad for this guy I definitely thought he was gonna be the one to do something really weird unless he still is like unless him and I don’t know he seems really shocked by what he just saw but like also not you know I don’t know it’s hard to make it out so what’s the plan with this body sir mop in a bucket do you want to maybe turn the shower off we’re wasting good water here what did they use her blood back then I wonder because there’s we don’t even
know if what we’re seeing is red right so they could have used gosh anything I’m trying to think about what the last half of this movie might contain now getting the car ready to just pop her in the trunk my god look how big that trunk is I kind of wish I had experienced cars like this just for how huge they are they’re basically like giant boats but I was born too late for that I lived in the 90s station wagon era I definitely remember those all right room key I’m gonna find this money he
just thinks it’s a newspaper doesn’t he Here We Go sir do you not feel the wad of cash in there I guess not okay okay yeah I understand ew oh my gosh that’s as far as she’s gonna go oh maybe not wow kind of hate that he’s smiling like he’s so proud of himself oh this poor guy Sam lady wants to see you I’m Marion’s sister oh sure Lila she left home on Friday and I haven’t heard from her since well get yourself some lunch with you this guy is creeping me out why let’s all
talk about Marion shall we my name is arborghost friend I’m a private investigator what’s your interest in this it’s your girlfriend stole forty thousand dollars Sam they don’t want to prosecute they just want the money back I think she’s here miss crane I’ll find it okay so I feel like the last half of this movie is like investigating trying to find her and then I assume following Norman wow the pi made it here imagine last two days I’ve been to so many motels my eyes are blurry with neon but you know this is the first
place it looks like it’s hiding from the world well one coming to register no no no sit down I don’t want to trouble you I just see I’m looking for a missing person my name is arborghost I’m a private investigator I’ve been trying to trace a girl that’s been missing for about a week now from Phoenix be a reason to believe that she came along this way may have stopped in the area well no one stopped here for a couple of weeks would you mind looking at the picture before committing yourself it’s possible this girl
could have registered under another name do you mind if I look at your book I said I have a sample of her handwriting oh boy Marie Samuels you want to check the picture again oh yeah I tell you it’s not it’s not really a very good picture really no I guess that she arrived uh rather late one night and she went straight to sleep and uh left early the next morning which morning was that the next morning Sunday I see did anyone meet her here no she’s making any phone calls or no locally did you
spend the night with him how would you know that you didn’t make any phone calls very tired yeah see now I’m starting to remember she was very hungry and I made her a sandwich and then she said that she was tired and she uh had to go right to bed and after she left she uh didn’t come back oh why should she it’s kind of believable got some work to do if you don’t mind I do mind you see if it doesn’t gel it is an aspic and this ain’t gelling it’s not coming together something’s
missing she isn’t still here is she no oh is anyone at home oh that that must be my mother oh now if this uh girl Marion crane were here you wouldn’t be hiding her would you no no not in she paid you well no it smells so Charming let’s put it this way she might have fooled me but she didn’t fool my mother there might be some hint that you missed out on you know sick old women are usually pretty Shopkins Mr Mr Arbogast I wouldn’t disturb I think I’ve I think I’ve talked to you
all I want to yeah I don’t think this Pi is gonna let this place go I feel like he’s gonna be back and my question is are they gonna find the car because that’s her body and thirty nine thousand three hundred dollars all muddy oh I don’t like that smile I don’t know okay I don’t like that smile like his smile is nice but not when he smiles like that yeah she spent last Saturday night at the Bates Motel it’s right out here on the old highway I even know what cabin she was in it
was number one well I tell you I don’t feel like entirely satisfied uh I think I’ll go back to the motel first all right see you in about an hour or less and he’s back I love that I love that they go across the seat to get out of the passenger side I’ve never seen that happen so much before for those of you that were around in the 60s was that a common thing that people did instead of just using the driver the driver door now all of a sudden I’m really worried about the pi
but I’m also interested to see this mother I kind of want to know how she is I guess oh we’re just gonna walk on in all right foreign that one actually got me that scared me God damn it rest in peace P.I let me guess she’s gonna make Norman put him in the mud too are we just going to sit here and wait you want to go out there don’t you patience doesn’t run my family Sam she looks very similar to the other actress they look they genuinely look like sisters is this a yes guest
oh is this like right on their property must be let’s slow zoom in on him very creepy let’s go see Al Chambers who’s he our deputy sheriff around here I hope I hope that this okay and don’t get sliced by the mother oh we got a call from this detective saying that he traced her to that Motel out on the Old Highway that must be the Bates Motel he traced her there and called us to say he was going to question Mrs Bates Norman took a wife no I don’t think so an old woman of
his mother well anyway that was early this evening we haven’t seen or heard from him since the way she said that was adorable and the police have been able to everyone concerned thought that they could get her to give the money back they could avoid involving her with the police and he explains a private detective we didn’t say anything about the money I’m sorry if I seem over anxious it’s just that I’m sure there’s something wrong out there and I have to know what I think he got himself a hot lead as to where your
sister was going calling you to keep you still while he took off after her and the money no no he said he was dissatisfied and he was going back there the sheriff wants you to connect him with the Bates Motel this detective was there and Norman told him about the girl the detective thanked him and he went away Norman bates’s mother has been dead and buried in Green Lawn Cemetery for the past 10 years what I hope Norman pick out the dress she was buried in Periwinkle blue ain’t only local history Sam it’s the only
case of murder and suicide on fairvale ledgers Mrs Bates poisoned this guy she was involved with when she found out he was married then took help into the same self herself strict nine ugly way to die Norman found them dead together you mean that old woman I saw sitting in the window out there wasn’t Bates mother are you sure you saw an old woman but it had to be because Arbogast said so too or if the woman up there is Mrs Bates who’s that woman buried out in Greenlawn Cemetery this story just took a big
turn what the heck oh my gosh I’m so interested now to find out what the heck is happening with this guy and whoever the hell the other person is in the house hmm maybe the mother didn’t actually kill herself maybe we’re gonna find out right now who managed to look ludicrous when you give me orders please mother I will not hide in the fruit Cellar this is my room and no one will drag me out of it they’ll come now mother he came after the girl and now someone will come after him you hit me
there once boy and you won’t do it again not ever again now get out oh is she the way she is because of him to get out carry you mother fuck fuck is happening oh my gosh we thought if you didn’t mind we’d drive out to that motel with you he’s already been that boy’s alone there no mother you must have seen an illusion Sam maybe I am the seeing Illusions type no no you’re not I still won’t feel satisfied until I go out there all right go out together please we’re going to registers man
and wife we’re going to get shown to a cabin then we’re going to search every inch of the place will this work won’t he recognize the guy will he recognize her as looking very similar to Marion maybe make this make the connection that she’s her sister I suppose you want to run Kevin one’s unlocked oh he’s all suspicious Sam we have to go into that cabin and search it no matter what we’re afraid of finding or how much it may hurt but if you had a useless business like this Motel what would you need to
get out to get a new business somewhere else forty thousand dollars how could we prove that well if he opens a motel on the new highways these Hills aren’t exactly sneaky to get to room one without him hearing you Bates gonna call for him I thought you guys wanted to be sneaky about this oh I’m really curious what they’re gonna find maybe Norman didn’t clean up that well maybe they’ll find the hole in the wall his little peephole I kind of hope they do actually ah he didn’t replace the shower curtain look some figure has
been added to or subtracted from forty thousand that proves Marion was here to be too wild it’s never deny she was here but that old woman whoever she is she told Arbor gas something I want her to tell us the same thing let’s find him one of us can keep him occupied while the other gets to the old woman fine bitch and keep him occupied you’re looking for me you’re satisfied with your cabin oh it’s fine I’m nervous I feel like she might get supplies at least if she just opens the door and walks in
like the pi did nice room I’m freaked out I’m so freaked out this looks like a boy’s room you look frightened have I been saying something frightening I don’t know what you’ve been saying I’ve been talking about your mother about your Motel why don’t you just get in your car and drive away from here okay where’s that girl you came here with where is she oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no no uh this is not good this is not good run run now run run shh Mrs Bates foreign I get it
now so he must have been just adjusting his voice then wild I got the whole story but not from Norman I got it from his mother he only half existed to begin with the other half is taken over did he kill my sister yes yeah and no if you drag that swap somewhere on the vicinity of the motel you uh have you any unsolved blessing persons cases on your books great question too from the mother half of Norman’s mind you have to go back 10 years to the time when Norman murdered his mother and her
lover and for years the two of them lived as if there was no one else in the world she met a man and it seemed to Norman that she threw him over for this man now that pushed him over the line and he killed them both he had to erase the cry at least in his own mind he stole her corpse gross so he began to think and speak for her give her half his life so to speak at other times the mother half took over completely he was never all Norman but he was often
only mother and because he was so pathologically jealous of her he assumed that she was as jealous of him if he felt the strong attraction to any other woman the mother’s side of him would go wild this is like some personality like multiple personality disorder kind of stuff that set off the jealous mother and mother killed the girl now after the murder Norman returned as if from a deep sleep and like a dutiful son covered up all traces of the crime he was convinced his mother had committed why was he dressed like that he’s a
transvestite uh not exactly a man who dresses in women’s clothing in order to achieve a sexual change or satisfaction is a transvestite but in Norman’s case he was simply doing everything possible to keep alive the illusion of his mother being alive he tried to be his mother now he is when the mind houses two personalities there’s always a conflict a battle in Norman’s case the battle is over and the Forty thousand dollars who got that the swap these were Crimes of Passion by Prophet mm-hmm wow this this movie went in a direction I had did
not see coming at all I had no idea that um that like multiple personalities was gonna be a thing like I feel like it’s hard to predict that though at least I was very convinced that the mother was her own person he was always bad and in the end he intended to tell them I killed those girls and that man I’ll just sit here and be quiet just in case they do suspect me let them see what kind of a person I am I’m not even gonna sweat that fly and they’ll say well she wouldn’t
even harm a fly well that was great all right so that was Psycho and wow I am so impressed it’s clear to me now why this movie is so recommended and so iconic and so classic and it’s clear why it won my patreon poll to be the last movie of kaloween and I am so glad that it won this is only my second black and white film that I’ve ever watched the first one is Schindler’s List and well technically I’ve seen the black and white scenes of The Wizard of Oz but this is like I
think my first true black and white film where the whole thing is in black and white it’s definitely my first movie from the 1960s my wasn’t sure how I was gonna respond to this but I really enjoyed this one I liked it a lot I wasn’t particularly scared by this movie and I will even say that I didn’t feel super creeped out a lot when I compare to watching The Shining for example like I felt creepy crawly’s Under the Skin for a good amount of that movie didn’t feel the same way with this one but
I will admit that the suspense in this movie was done really well it just didn’t like quite get under my skin the same way that some other movies did what I really loved about this movie was the hecken story this story was so good and the twist was incredible it just went in a direction for me that was completely unexpected and this film feels so far ahead for its time I’m already so eager to edit this reaction so that I can re-watch this movie so that I can pay closer attention to Norman’s words and body
language and facial expressions during his conversation with Marion I also want to re-listen to the the conversation between the Norman half of the brain and the mother half the brain because I was convinced that it was two people talking to each other so I really want to hear that again when I think back to watching this I feel like there was one moment where I sided with the mother a little bit and then I then felt bad for Norman later on and then thought the mother anyway I just uh knowing that it’s multiple personalities instead
of two separate people it’s just so good regarding the shower scene I was correct this is the movie that has the iconic shower scene I had never seen it before I’m sure that this was the first time that something like this had ever been in film before so yeah by today’s standards obviously not like a super realistic scene but I mean back in those days they wouldn’t have been able to do fake wounds or anything or I mean they could have tried I guess but I don’t know how they would have done it so just
clever camera angles and good editing it gets the job done however for me the top scene is at the end when the guy is explaining to everyone and exactly what happened and exactly what kind of person Norman is I absolutely loved that I love that the cop immediately jumped to saying oh he’s a transvestite and then the guy was like no he’s not this is actually what’s happening and I think in the reaction I might have called it multiple personality disorder I think that’s an outdated term now I think the actual term is disassociative identity
disorder is like now in today’s standards like the proper definition of what that is but yeah I just I was not expecting Norman to suffer from that and the surprise that I had from this reveal felt very similar to when I watched Mr Robot for the very first time and for those of you that have seen Mr Robot you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about and if you haven’t seen Mr Robot holy fuck go and watch that show Mr Robot is literally the best TV show I’ve ever seen in my life and I’m like a
big Game of Thrones lover and Game of Thrones was very impactful for me but Mr Robot is incredible and one of the episodes in the final season is considered one of the best TV episodes period of all time so if that doesn’t motivate you to watch it then I don’t know what else to tell you the casting in this movie was so good uh Anthony Perkins looked up his name Anthony Perkins as Norman was incredible he was someone that I was like drawn to at the start like he is a very attractive man he was
seemed very friendly wonderful smile like when he smiles not in a creepy way it’s a beautiful smile like he’s just a very good looking guy and you know that makes you want to like him and side with him and be like oh yeah things are fine but then no no he’s not he’s not a very good man at all I think a character has done so well when you can empathize and feel for them and then in like the flick of an instant you can immediately go to not liking them and those are just really
good characters for me I love characters where I can feel multiple feelings for them throughout the piece of media that I’m watching I really enjoyed Janet Lee as Marion I think she did an amazing job and she is a beautiful beautiful person and her beauty just shined on screen and I really enjoyed the character it’s a shame that you know if she had to die so early but I mean I’m sure that shocked audiences in 1960. it definitely surprised me I was not expecting her to heck and go halfway through the movie like what the
heck I also kind of feel bad as well because one of the last things that Marion said or it might have been the exact last thing that she said was that she was gonna go back she was gonna go back to Phoenix and and kind of make things right with what she had done like she mentioned something about the Trap that she had willingly put herself into she wanted to like live the consequences of that or like try and fix things or something but she was gonna go back and like return the money I think
which makes sense like why she was doing the math on the piece of paper to kind of figure out like how much she had left yeah I don’t know I just I feel bad for her I think that Sam and Lila were really great supplementary characters and I really enjoyed the end of the movie where they kind of went into investigative mode to try and figure out what had happened and what was going on so they were really entertaining to watch on screen and I consider them just as good as Janet and Anthony honestly the
four of them really really good I should probably include the private investigator in there as well I think that he did a really good job as well uh yeah just this Solid cast through and through really good the soundtrack in this movie was great and it’s the soundtrack in particular where I can really see just how John Carpenter drew his inspiration from this movie to make Halloween I did read on the Halloween Wiki when I I did my reaction for Halloween when I was doing my thoughts and review for that movie I pulled up the
wiki and I did see that psycho was inspiration for Halloween so once I heard that music like when the movie very first started I kind of had it in my brain I’m like okay this kind of sounds similar-ish to the Halloween iconic music that plays any time that you know there’s danger in that movie and yeah there’s just a lot of similarities there and I’d have to re-watch Halloween again but I feel like there were even some not super copycat but like even some scenes in Halloween were kind of structured similarly to the scenes in
Psycho so that’s really cool I think my preference though is the music and psycho I think that the screeching violins I hope that’s the right instrument but I feel like the screeching violins were just more impactful for me than the music in Halloween because I feel like the music in Halloween now in comparison just wasn’t nearly as scary feeling as the music in this movie all right I don’t know that I have anything else to say like from my brain about this movie I feel like I’ve covered everything that I want to talk about but
one thing I want to do is I want to go online and I want to read about this movies like what this movie did that had never been done before because like I said this movie felt so ahead of its time for me I mean we had conversations about like transvestite was brought up we had conversations about we had murder murder of a lead character like halfway through the film so that all seems like kind of unheard of for the 1960s so I just want to read into that a little bit all right censorship and
taboos this is exactly what I’m looking for psycho is a prime example of the type of film that appeared in the US during the 1960s after the erosion of the production code what is the production code Haze code industry guidelines for the self-censorship of content applied to most Motion Pictures 1934 to 1968 spelled out acceptable and an unacceptable content for Motion Pictures produced for a public audience in the US interesting okay so that got eroded so basically Hitchcock was like all right well time to bring in so many things that have never been done before
it was unprecedented in its depiction of sexuality and violence right from the opening scene in which Sam and Marion are Shona’s lovers sharing the same bed with Marion in a bra really in the production code standards of that time unmarried couples shown in the same bed would have been taboo no fucking way wow oh my God so even from the get-go Hitchcock is just like here guys here’s something you’ve never seen before an unmarried couple in in bed and here’s someone in a bra wow that’s so that’s so wild to me considering the kind of
movies we have now reading this is so interesting another issue is the gender non-conformity Perkins who is allegedly oh a homosexual and Hitchcock both experienced in the film’s transgressive subject matter the viewer is unaware of Bates cross-dressing until at the end of the film it’s revealed during the attempted murder of Lila right interesting another cause of concern for the sensors was that Mary brain was shown flushing a toilet with its contents fully visible no flushing toilet had appeared in mainstream film and television in the US at that time what people that wrote the production code
like yep toilets cannot be on film do not show them disgusting can’t show toilets wow that’s so interesting internationally Hitchcock was forced to make minor changes to the film mostly to the shower scene in Britain they required cuts to stabbing sounds invisible nude shots in New Zealand the shot of Norman washing his blood from his hands was seen as disgusting in Singapore the shower scene was left untouched but the murder of Arbogast in the shot of Norman’s mother’s corpse were removed wow it’s so interesting how different countries have different standards about what they like don’t
want to see and what they are okay with Wow reading about these like taboos and censorship stuff is really interesting it it also like 1960 was not that long ago both of my parents were born in the 60s and so it’s just so interesting to me how far we’ve come in such a few short decades and how quickly we’re evolving as a species and how quickly everything is changing like uh just standards and etiquette and and just I don’t I don’t know I could probably I probably sit here for half an hour just to shoot
the shit about this kind of stuff and just how far we’ve come and what’s what’s not a big deal now versus back then and things like that too so yeah that’s so cool to read so yeah my verdict uh four out of five stars easy rating absolutely easy reading could be higher after a couple re-watches who knows all right now that we’ve read the wiki a bit I am popping over to letterboxed real quick because I have to pick some amazing reviews that people have left just ones that make me laugh they’re not serious reviews
of course but people on letterboxed they like rate the movie and then their review is just like humor and I love the humorous reviews because it just makes me laugh so let’s go find some good ones okay so here are two back to back that are kind of similar but just really good first Review 4 out of 5 Stars when he’s six foot one handsome and in touch with this feminine side the one immediately following it is five stars and it says yes he does the cooking yes he does the cleaning with a heart behind
it love it absolutely love it and the third review that I really liked is a 5 out of 5 stars that says tragedy number one I hadn’t seen psycho before tragedy number two Norman Bates is disturbingly attractive and I completely empathize with this letterboxed review because I feel the same way now it is time to rank all of the K Halloween movies so here we go my general blanket order is this fourth is Halloween third is The Shining second is the is psycho and first is the Silence of the Lambs that’s just like movies for
what they are overall rating but let’s break this down a little bit more into specifics my favorite story was Psycho my favorite use of Sound and Music for suspense was The Shining the best villain and the best protagonist were both the Silence of the Lambs for me and the best jump scare for me is a tie between Halloween the scene where Michael and the woman are in the car and he grabs her from behind and in The Shining when Jack comes out from behind the pillar to kill Dick can’t decide which one jump scared me
more I feel like both of them jump scared me pretty equally so we’re gonna call it a tie and that officially wraps up kaleoween and I’m like kind of bummed that it’s over but we don’t have to save horror movies until next October I could sprinkle in a few throughout 2023. I definitely would want to lean more suspense though because I’m thinking that maybe next October is when I’ll really bite the bullet and watch movies like Insidious The Conjuring like those types of horror movies which I think might genuinely actually scare me and maybe I’ll
sprinkle some suspense and Thriller throughout this year because I really do love suspenseful movies like these they’re really well done and I like them a lot so let me know if you’d be up for that all right I mentioned in the intro that I had a announcement about what’s coming on the channel in November so if you haven’t already seen my community tab or if you don’t follow me on Twitter and Instagram you definitely should look in those places because I shared this already there but I am starting a new series in November on the
channel and it is a big one I am finally diving into the Marvel Cinematic Universe this has been suggested to me by many people since I started doing reactions here on YouTube I have not seen a single MCU movie I don’t know why I just haven’t and I know that the MCU is very well loved and very popular and I am ready to give it a try so I won’t be watching the movies back to back to back to back I will get burnt out that way so I’m gonna alternate we’ll release an MCU reaction
and then react to something else and then back to MCU and then back to something else and that is the plan so the very first MCU movie which is Iron Man is going to be released in November I’m gonna Target Monday November 7th because I feel like releasing MCU movies on Mondays just makes the most sense we’ll call it MCU Mondays very clever name I’m really excited so looking forward to it I’m excited to get back into another series I haven’t done a series since the Dark Knight trilogy and that was already many many months
ago and then the largest series I’ve done is what started my channel which was Star Wars and I’ve been doing a bit of variety since then and kind of bouncing around different genres and different decades and things like that and I definitely still want to keep doing that but I also was kind of feeling like an another series would be good so I I’m excited I hope you all are too and I think that’s all I have to say for this video we’re done we’re done KL ween it was a lot of fun I’m so
