Rolex President Day Date & Datejust Sapphire Ruby Dials Watch Review | SwissWatchExpo

Hello from SwissWatchExpo! Spring is upon us and
mother’s day is right around the corner. And we’ve
got some precious watches with a lot of precious
stones. And then we’re going to dig into it today.
Today, we’re going to be talking primarily about
rubies. If you recall, we’ve done a segment on the
past that kind of really dug into sapphires and
some of the brilliant qualities of that particular
gemstone, but because there are more than just
sapphires and diamonds out there, I wanted to kind
of expand our knowledge base and kind of dig into
the ruby portion of what Rolex has to offer us.
Now I’ve grabbed a nice handful of watches so that
we can talk about the kind of different styles of,
I guess, design in which they use these precious
stones. But I want you to know that these are not,
this is not a complete collection of all the
different variations and designs that are
available. There are so many more different,
subtle differences. You can change between
size, between style, between different
cuts of the diamonds that really expand
the number of potential options
you have available to you.
Well, let’s dig right in. So, like I said, we’re
going to be talking

about Rubies today. Now
Rubies are technically a Sapphire it’s one of
those rectangle square things where all rubies
are a Sapphire, but not all sapphires are Ruby.
Of course, we know that rubies are generally,
you know, it’s associated with that deep, rich red
hue that comes along with the gemstone. But since
it is technically a Sapphire, it’s going to have
the same structural qualities. It’s a nine on the
hardness scale. It’s very durable. It doesn’t chip
easily. It is found naturally, and you’re also
able to synthesize it and make them in a lab if
you will. Now, like I said, there’s a whole bunch
of different variations that you can come upon
when you’re stumbling through, you know, just a
Rolex collection or on the internet. And I’d kind
of like to highlight some of the differences.
So we’re all pretty familiar with, you know,
factory diamond hour markers, you know,
like a mother of Pearl dial, right? Well, this is
that same configuration, but they have substituted
the diamonds for the rubies. Now we also have a
variation of this with the sapphires where it’s
same, same mother Pearl dial, but instead
of diamonds or rubies, we’ve got sapphires.
So they have, they have these different options
available. You can see that this one happens to
be on a yellow gold watch. And this is on, on
a stainless steel with white gold, but that’s,
they’re not restricted to those. You can find
all of these different watches with, you know,
all the different gemstones and different
varieties on a multitude of different metals
sizes. You name it. They really keep the options
wide open. Now, aside from that mother of Pearl
dial with the diamond hur markers, there are a
couple other, our markers that are quite notable.
This one has the Arabic numeral at six and
nine. And on the inside, it’s got a bunch of
smaller stones, right? And that you can also find
that, and you know, they’re not even, you know,
stuck with us rubies or sapphires, you can also
find them with emeralds as well. And maybe one day
we’ll do a video on the emeralds. Now I we’ve kind
of talked about the different dials. There’s one
more I’d like to talk about this is going to be
the pave dial. This is a dial that is covered from
head to toe, if you will, in diamonds, but where
are the hour markers are they actually have Ruby
set to another dial that you could also have with
sapphires now digging in a little bit more though,
to these bezels, you’ll notice that most of the
options come with, you know, the, the standard
fluted by 18 carat, you know, bezel or white
gold, yellow gold, Rose gold, again, multitude
of options, but they also have, you know, precious
gemstones that you can find on the bezels.
So we’ve got, you know, the traditional,
you know, diamond bezel that has, you know,
full diamonds all the way around round cut stones,
but they kind of switched it up and give us a few
different variations, a few different options for
us. One of my favorites is known as the baguette.
You know, it has a very long and slender shape,
similar to the bread. These are rectangular,
they’re very close to rectangularly cut. So
there’s, it’s almost gapless when you’re looking
at it. You don’t see the metal that’s used in the
setting of the stone making for a really clean and
brilliant shine with not a lot of contrast with
the metal. Now they do have some other types of
cuts that they use. So this is a combination here.
This is going to be a full set diamond bezel.
And it has, you know, almost like the
cardinal directions with rubies implanted,
where the rubies are the baguette, but the
diamonds are that traditional round cut.
And right next to it on a, on
a smaller President Datejust,
we’ve got a kind of an alternating diamond Ruby
combination. But if you actually hold the watch
in your hand and you look up really close to
it, you’ll notice that the diamonds are that,
you know, traditional round cut that you find on,
on the other hour markers and the other bezels,
but the rubies have more of like an ocular
shape, kind of giving them a little bit more
proportion to the diamond. So you get a little
bit more red flair to it. And of course this
one has the string of diamonds around the dial
with the hour markers themselves being rubies.
Now you don’t necessarily have to go with, you
know, a smaller watch for the ladies. These
are available for men as well. And you can see a
couple of other options where we’ve got, you know,
a very clear difference or distinction of
only changing the rubies to the sapphire.
So again, there are plenty of options
out there for you. Come check them out
at SwissWatchExpo.com. One thing I would like to
mention, we are not gemologists here. So we don’t
know what, you know, the carrot size of the, of
the stone is or what the clarity rating is. What
we do know is that every dial and every watch that
comes through SwissWatchExpo, especially these
Rolex watches, every one of them is going to have
parts that come from the Rolex factory. So all
of these dials, all of these diamonds and all of
these rubies, none of them are going to be custom
aftermarket parts. They’re going to all come from
the Rolex factory. So as far as, you know, as long
as Rolex keeps coming out with more creative
options concerning gemstones, you can find them
at SwissWatchExpo and don’t forget to like hit the
bell subscribe, and we’ll see you guys next time.
