The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran | Book Review and Appreciation ?

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s
longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong
not to you.
One of my all time favorite books is The Prophet
by Kahlil Gibran or Almustafa in Indonesian
translated version. If you activate the subtitle
feature of this video,
you will find the Indonesian translated version of the quoted parts of
The Prophet which are from Almustafa with
Sapardi Djoko Damono as translator and published by Bentang Pustaka.
Originally published on 1923, The Prophet has been translated into more than 20 languages. I read this book on
June and finished it on one sitting, however I can’t stop not coming back to whichever
page I want to re-read over and over again. Reading this book always amazes me, of how
beautiful and meaningful every word he constructed, of how novel and heartwarming they are no
matter how many times I read them. Some words can be found in everyday life yet it’s paired
differently giving the readers a whole new experience in reading. Some others are beautiful
words used long time ago and rarely found in nowadays conversations. I enjoy reading
this valuable copy which the ideas and teaching are treasures for me to learn and to sit for a long time.
This book is about a chosen one named Al Mustafa who has waited for 12 years

for his ship from
Orphalese to his birth land. Before his departure, he answered some questions from people of
Orphalese about many things in life. Written beautifully in melodic prose of universal
spirituality language without a set of dogmatic right and wrong, The Prophet is a collection
of poetic essays infused with wisdom and philosophy in the form of Questions and Answers, with
each chapter has different topics on love, marriage, children, work, freedom,
beauty, friendship, etc. The way Kahlil Gibran composed word by word to create the whole book awe-inspiring
is beyond my ability to convey it through
words. The Prophet is under 150 pages long,
a short book but rich in wisdom and teaching for everyone despite their presence, absence
or different religious beliefs
beauty is life when life unveils her holy
face.
But you are life and you are the veil.
Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror.
But you are eternity and you are the mirror.
