Yes! "Vox" Picard S3E09 Spoiler Review

hello all Rick here reviewing episode 9 of Picard’s season three Vox there will be spoilers ahead this episode featured the on-screen debut of the Enterprise NCC 1701 F The Odyssey class in all her glory I’m tempted to do a video breakdown on that class of course now that we have seen her in Canon but I have done one already so you let me know for sure for now it’s just fantastic to see a design that has been orbiting Canon for years finally you get the introduction she deserves repeat with fireworks and what’s more it is

overseen at least for this celebratory Day by returning face Admiral Shelby who appears to be wearing five star Pips making her one of the few Fleet animals of Starfleet looks like her ambition did not end at captaincy and carried out all the way to the top they draw attention to her history as the first anti-borg specialist within Starfleet and call out the irony that she seems to have taken some inspiration in unveiling their Fleet formation of the system where all the ships are connected to operators one unit this system is quite possibly devised as a

response to the repeated times Starfleet vessels are turned against one another as the protostar evented Star Trek Prodigy and the seizing of the Mars defense perimeter shows we witnessed firsthand the prose

that such synchronicity can bring back at the end of season two when a fleet combined its deflector shielding to hold back a devastating energy surge from a Transworld conduit this conduit’s origin was left unanswered as it was not from gerardi’s Borg faction so perhaps it was from the original Collective however the flaws of this network are also highlighted soon after the Enterprise F fully

incorporated into the lore at last that makes me so happy and I could spend this entire review just talking about this one Enterprise but okay okay so they need a vessel that is not that works to the Starfleet Mainframe very Battlestar Galactica of them so aside from shuttlecraft they’re going to need an older ship and Fleet museum has plenty thankfully they have the head of the fleet museum with them so they have their pick of the lot but Geordie has a surprise for them we knew from some references before the series that the Enterprise D

had its saucer section retrieved from Viridian 3. naturally starfit could not just leave this Advanced wreck where it was and it was taken to the museum but what I did not expect was that it had been painstakingly restored using salvaged components of the USS Syracuse ncc-1744 it has been a secret project of the LA forges for the past 20 years and would have made a grand addition to the Museum of course but it was operable although a generation out of date I kind of wish we did have some more panning shots and a slower reveal

of the ship because I was just swept up in the Glee the crew slowly stepped foot from the turbo lift back onto the bridge and its gradual reveal is so welcoming like stepping into your childhood home again after years away completing the feel of the Galaxy Class Hero was Major Barrett as the computer sampled from earlier TNG episodes and the whoosh of the turbo lift doors all familiar and nostalgic sounds to my ears and that of the crew their faces mirror our own and even in the midst of such dire circumstances they cannot resist but

to take a minute to reflect it is so strange to turn to the Memory Alpha page and see that the Enterprise D is currently listed as active once more the computer refers to Picard as Captain and it’s not only another hint of nostalgia but another reference of how the Enterprise D is completely isolated from the newer ships units computer core seems straight from 2371 which it would be it was located in the saucer section same brain new body just like it’s captain as for the Enterprise E I know I said wolf needed a toned down

on the humor slightly but of course he preferred the E for its combat superiority we also get our pointed look as everyone looks over to Wolf regarding the fate of that Sovereign class and we can gather it was not great as pointed out in the Books Wolf was assigned as the commander of that ship after Picard and Riker left and its final mission was a classified one in 2386 so we are still unsure as to what happened but apparently it was not Wolf’s fault I have spent the first part of this review simply gushing over

both the new and old Enterprises but it was also grand to see the entirety of the new Fleet on display we have Luna’s sovereignty and chorus defines several other Odysseys Excelsior Mark II’s Pathfinder Sagan Ross Reliant Echelon and Akira’s the entire lineup of viewer 25th Century vessels and it’s fantastic shame they’re all pointing their phases at you know space talk on Earth data’s aside to Geordie also made me laugh out loud when he was told to be a more optimistic and I cannot help but see the law style humor at play within him I like

this new complete personality data and it makes me think of all the opportunities for new friendships and experiences he Jordy and the others can have now but on the flip side we have the loss of Captain Shaw he passes on his ship fighting to regain it and His Last Action is to assign command to Seven of Nine calling her by her preferred name Rafi 2 remains at her side in an attempt to retake the title but until Jack is recovered they stand little chance of success I liked Shaw’s character from the outset he was this

grouchy by the book kind of guy who delighted in bringing down picardo and Riker and Peggle 2 at any opportunity he had his flaws and biases but they were drawn from his past traumas and eventually he overcame them recognizing them in himself the overall core themes are clear in this episode Drawn from the first part 2 and progressing into the finale the older generation in ships technology and characters has one last duty to perform in literally rescuing the younger generation who have fallen to the Borg the newer ships are now under the control of those

who should be the future of the Federation so it falls to the Old Guard to free them in the cases of the crew from TNG they are literally now fighting for their children’s Futures seeing them being pulled into this Collective where Free Will is non-existent this evolved assimilation through the federation’s own technology I’m sure there is a social media analogy in there somewhere the Borg’s plan has been ages in the making and the crew immediately jumped to the suspicion that the Borger in cooperation with these Renegade changelings which turns out to be accurate it is

an alliance that could have gone either way the Dominion desire for control and unity would no doubt see the potential in the Borg but likewise the Dominion does not broker Rivals to their power and the Borg are certainly that but it sounds like these changelings severed from their link have reached out to an equally crippled Borg Collective and hatched a plan the one thing I’m a little vague on is why because as far as I can see this plan only benefits the Borg unless the changelings were promised equal leadership among the resulting Collective it was

vadek’s Revenge motivation enough this is the actual Collective not the Borg Cooperative that girati was leading but full-on Delta quadrant residing cybernetic aberrations Borg I will admit a small amount of personal satisfaction at learning that the Borg assimilation process includes the alteration of biology to create some form of telepathic Communicator this is something I and others had assumed to be the case because of Picard’s ability to still sense the collective even after being freed of it and it feels like a fan Theory coming true of the Aramaic syndrome was a side effect of his assimilation

and it has matured a regeneration to form into a natural biological hive mind in Jack they also implemented Picard’s remaining link into the transporter system so that anyone under the age of 25 who passed through one had this biological connector added to their parietal lobe it does make me wonder why the changelings then were so adamant at avoiding the use of Transporters themselves were they worried that they too would be part of this connection it does make sense of Jack’s Vision when he saw the Transporters in one of his Fuchs states he was sensing the

formation of that mental link this desire to form connection has always been present in Jack Crasher and gives rise to the relatable sentiment in his outbursts that people would be far less cruel to one another if everyone could just empathize and put themselves in the other’s shoes Jack spews his inner line of thought entertaining the notion of enforcing that on others but of course he caveats away from that dangerous line of thinking on realizing that the Borg are emotionless what Jack wishes for cannot be found in the Borg unfortunately this also beat him to make

the rash decision to confront the Borg Queen directly and there is little that can be done to stop him when he can control others his goal was to get answers and then overpower the queen or something it doesn’t matter everyone knew it was a bad idea but it was actually on Reckless impulse the sight of the Towering Cube emerging from the not a nebula really captures the scale of these things after all they’re supposed to be around three kilometers across once inside he Converses with a queen whose face we never see and the cube itself

is eerily deserted of drones we see a couple in the background but they’re inactive and the corridors themselves look neglected I wonder how desperate the collective is the Picard tried to convey the severity of the Borg to Crusher but despite the kid’s bravado he falls victim to the same fate as his father and is powerless against the collective the cutest was the one who speaks for the collective and the queen names Crusher Vox the spoken the product of locutus and I love the analogy to begin with the title also refers to the demystification of the

voices in Jack’s head but by the end it has taken on a new meaning the penultimate chapter sets up the finale with the Borg plan in full swing and the future Generations lives in the balance with the Aged Heroes literally riding back in to save the day honor relic of their past the race is on to prevent the pseudo-assimilated Starfleet from Raising Earth this part was a satisfying reveal of set up clocks threads and the delivery of pure fan service but built into the narrative to serve the plot too after all if this is the

last hurray of the TNG generation why should they not go all the way and bring back the Enterprise d after all it was the last member of the main cast They had not addressed and it was good to see her back too if there is the criticism of this series it could be that it relies a little too heavily on Nostalgia to power it but with other track titles forging ahead in their own circles why not look back a little I’ve been Rick thanks for watching this review of Picard’s episode 9 and I’m eagerly anticipating

the finale goodbye foreign
