ENGWE L20 Powerful Fat Tire Cargo eBike Review & Test

what’s happening everyone my name is Alex and welcome back in today’s video we are checking out the ENGWE L20 electric bicycle so this is a step through cargo bike that’s powered by a 750 watt motor that’s located in the rear wheel here according to manufacturer this bicycle gets a range of up to 120 kilometers on one charge but we’ll talk more about that later on in the video now we also have what’s called fat tires on this bike so these are 20 inch wheels that have four inch wide tires so that’s why the bike looks

a bit more unique all right let’s add a bit of an unboxing just so I can show you how the bike comes packed in the box and what you have to do to put this together and basically get it ready for the road okay so the bicycle comes in a pretty big box as you’d expect because the bike itself it’s pretty big and the box is also pretty heavy the bicycle itself weighs 34 kilos so it’s gonna be kind of tough to carry this around because it is a heavy bike um after all all right

so out of the box you do have to do a bit of an installation you basically have to put the seat together that’s super simple to do you

also have to put the handle bottom here together you basically have to screw in about four screws and then you have to mount this um front rack here so this is useful so you can carry like a backpack some groceries and stuff like that you also have to put together the front fender here the rear run comes um pre-installed in the box so it should take you about

20 minutes to get this ready and out on the road all right so next we are taking a look at the bike itself and we are starting with a brake so this bike we get mechanical disc brakes on the back and on the front and the stopping power from these brakes is also really good just to give you an example if you’re going downhill and you’re going pretty fast you pull on these levers here and the bike will stop so the mechanical brakes that we have on it do work really well and I don’t actually

feel the need for hydraulic brakes because you’re not really going that fast with this bicycle we also have a front suspension we get about an inch and a half of travel on that front suspension but it definitely helps when you’re going over uneven terrain now because we have the Massive Tires those will help the most whenever you’re going over an even terrain over bumps and so on so if you want to do a bit of off-roading with this bicycle it will work good for that as well and I’m also happy to see that it doesn’t

really make any noise when you’re like going over uneven surfaces so very quiet bike overall as I mentioned at the beginning of the video the bike is powered by a 750 watt motor that’s located in the rear wheel here we also have a seven speed Shimano shifter on the back here and shifting up and shifting down through gears does work really well so I haven’t noticed any issues whatsoever so whenever you’re shifting up it will shift up one tour how many gears you’re shifting up and the same goes four down now depending on your location

when you first take this bike out of the box it may be locked to 25 kilometers an hour because that’s the legal speed limit for electric bikes at least where I am currently located however you can easily unlock that from the screen here so if you don’t want to stay within the legal speed limits you can easily unlock the bicycle the same goes for the throttle here out of the box this doesn’t actually do anything but you can enable that as well so if you don’t want to Pedal yes you do have the option of

just going on the electric motor only and you don’t actually have to Pedal but definitely check out the regulations wherever you’re located because that may not be legal everywhere the kickstand is made of a combination of plastic and metal and it does work really well so whenever the bike is sitting on that kickstand it’s not going to fall off even on if it’s in the outsole pretty sturdy kickstand on the back here we have a little rack so if you want to keep a bag there or something like that you can definitely do that on

the back here we also have a light the light is bright enough so you can actually see it during the the day and that also acts as a brake light so whenever you are pulling on the brake levers here that will light up and of course we have a little um mud guard so if you are riding on a wet surface or something like that you’re not gonna get all wet the seat on this bike is also a bit bigger than most seats that I’ve seen on other electric bikes you do have a lot of

padding so riding this for longer periods of time is also fairly comfortable of course the seat is adjustable in height you can make it higher or lower and then you can close the seat like this and you do that if you want to remove the battery pack that’s located right here now the battery pack does have an ignition so that acts as an ignition for the bike so as it is now the bike is not going to start and that also locks the battery in place so if you park the bike somewhere you can actually

remove the battery and take the battery with you upstairs or wherever you’re going so this so you don’t necessarily have to charge the bike with the battery inside so you can just remove the battery take it home charge it overnight because it does take about six to seven hours to fully charge this and then in the morning you bring the battery back and you put it in the bike as for the range that you’re gonna be able to get on one charge all the manufacturer says that you can get up to 140 kilometers on one

charge but I guess that’s in perfect conditions if you’re riding on assistance level one for example if you’re only riding on a flat surface and so on realistically if you do pedal but you are not riding in mode number one you’re gonna get somewhere around 50 to 60 kilometers on one charge if you go on electric mode only you’re probably gonna get around 30 to 40 kilometers on one charge so it really depends how you’re gonna be riding this where you’re gonna be riding it how heavy you are and so on so the range will

depend on many many things leaving the ranger side the 750 watt motor that we have in the rear wheel here has more than enough power for pretty much any situation if you ride uphill since we have gears as well you lower the gear you go in mode three or four and then the bike will assist you going uphill without you actually having to put that much effort into pedaling so for power you’re gonna find plenty of power for pretty much any situation wherever you go the bike has plenty of power okay so we have a

quick climbing test here we have a pretty steep hill I am in gear number one and the assistance level number three so I’m just gonna go on riding up the hill just so you can see how the bike does on a hill like this because this hill is pretty steep so let’s go so as you can see very very easy to climb Hill some like this I also forgot to mention at the beginning of the video that you have to put together the pedals as well that takes a couple of minutes to do and the

pedals are made out of metal and no they do not fold in any ways now on the front here we have the headlight this is bright enough so you can actually see it during the day and at night of course it is bright enough so it can light up The Path ahead of you now The Handlebar here is not really adjustable in height however you can move it forward a bit you can move it backward them a bit if you loosen these screws here so you can make the bike comfortable for pretty much any ride

that I’m gonna say now the brake levers here are made out of plastic the grips here don’t move in anyway so nice and tight and the screen that we get on this bike is visible even in direct sunlight so it doesn’t matter how bright it is out you’re always going to be able to see the screen here really well all right so next I’m going to take the bike for a short ride just so you can see see how the Bike Works basically whenever you’re riding it to shift some gears we’ll do a brake test

and so on so let me grab that camera and we’ll go for a short ride okay so let me quickly show you how you use this bike so we have the power button right here at the top you hold this pressed for about two seconds or so and then you can change the assistance level right here so we’ll go in assistance level number two you have the shifter here we are currently in gear number three so I’m gonna start pedaling and as soon as I start pedaling the bike will sense that and assist me so

it is very easy to Pedal because well obviously the bike is assisting you we have a bit of a hill here we’re gonna go in assistance level number three and you can hear the motor starting to help you out a bit more basically I’m also gonna do a bit of a brake test so just after this band so we’ll do a bit of a brake test here breaking as I mentioned earlier so we’ll keep going we’ll shift gears we’ll shift again and we’ll increase the assistance level to three it’s a nice um nice and easy

basically on any surface and of course if you increase the assistance level the bike will go even faster but will keep it to about 21 22 at this time and that’s how you shift gears back basically so that easy to ride a bike like this on pretty much any surface so to quickly conclude this video for its price the angry l20 offers really really good value if you need a bike that’s easy to climb on because this one is a bit easier to climb on than most other bikes out there it also has a lot

of luggage carrying space let’s say that because you can have a backpack here you can have some bags on the back there so if you’re going for longer trips these bikes makes it easier to carry whatever luggage you may have with you we have plenty of power the range on it is sufficient for most trips I’m gonna see and the bike is also pretty comfortable so if you’re looking for something like that definitely consider the l20 all right guys hopefully you enjoyed this video thanks for watching and I’ll see you in the next one
