now let’s get into it the new hp
pavilion gaming 15 laptop has a striking
design
the fact that hp used the color green
here certainly helps it stand out
our reviewed laptop packs a serious
punch with the

latest amd six core
3.3 gigahertz ryzen 5 processor there is
also an 11th gen intel core i5 variant
available
16 gigabytes ram 512 gigabytes pcie nvme
ssd
nvidia geforce gtx 1650 graphics card an
amazing
144 hertz 1080p full hd
display if you’re big on esports having
a refresh rate higher than 60 hertz is
practically a necessity
a 140 hertz rate is standard on many
higher-end gaming laptops
but finding the same refresh rate on a
budget-conscious gaming laptop that
costs
under 900 is trickier once you get used
to a 144 hertz refresh rate it can
be annoying to play on anything less
taking a closer look the diagonal
cutouts below the display add a bit of
visual flare when the laptops open
the bezels on either side of the screen
are slim though the top and bottom
borders are larger
the keyboard is backlit but all in green
rather than the multiple zones or
million rgb colors of fancier gaming
laptops
windows hello users will be disappointed
to find neither a fingerprint reader nor
a face recognition webcam
the laptop is made of plastic and
measures 0.9 by 14.2 by 10.1 inches
and weighing 4.4 pounds or 2 kilograms
as an amd machine this hp has no
thunderbolt port
but otherwise offers decent connectivity
the only ports on the left edger usb
2.0 port and the power connector
on the right are usb 3.1 type a and type
c ports
an hdmi video output an ethernet port an
audio jack
and an sd card slot a reltec card
provides wi-fi six and bluetooth
connectivity
the keyboard is comfortable and quiet
rather than snappy it offers a numeric
keypad with small home
end page up and page down keys
above it though the cursor arrows are
arranged in hp’s eternally awkward row
the buttonless touchpad glides and taps
smoothly but click stiffly
the pavilion speakers which are tuned by
bang and olufsen produces a clear but
not very loud sound
bang olufsen audio control software
offers music
movie and voice presets and an equalizer
with pop
rock classical dance and other modes
most of which sound like you’ve thrown a
blanket over the speakers
the 720p webcam captures soft focus
shots with lots of noise
the hp pavilion gaming laptop offers a
cool and quiet performance
for everyday tasks it’s safe to put the
pavilion gaming laptop on your lap
it’ll get a little warm but nothing hot
enough to necessitate running your skin
under cold water
our usual internet browser benchmark in
google chrome only pushed the bottom of
the plastic chassis to 109.4 degrees
fahrenheit or 43 degrees celsius and a
quick gaming stress
test pushed it to 118.4 degrees
fahrenheit or 48 degrees celsius
the area around the keyboard remained a
cool 100.4 degrees fahrenheit or 38
degrees celsius
these are all relatively impressive
scores for gaming machines
internally the components remain at a
safe temperature most of the time
especially the processor the amd ryzen 5
did reach a max temperature of 181
degrees fahrenheit or 83 degrees celsius
after running benchmarks and gaming on
ultra settings for over an hour but its
average temperature was 154 degrees or
68 degrees celsius
the lower the average temperature the
better the longevity of the cpu
and the longer you can reliably use the
laptop here are some of the things i
don’t like
first is the battery life while the hp
pavilion gaming 15 laptop
is well-rounded enough for someone like
a college student to use for both
coursework and leisure
gaming on the go could be annoying
thanks to the disappointing battery life
however you can squeeze out some more
battery juice of up to seven hours if
you set the battery saving feature to
ten percent while using the laptop for
only light productivity works like
internet browsing and youtube videos
but if you’re going to play games on
battery power expect the battery to
drain much faster even with the battery
saver on
next is the clunky bezels i guess this
is one of the compromises of a budget
laptop since shrinking the display
border
and finding a small enough webcam to fit
in that sliver of a space above the
screen isn’t cheap so aesthetics often
get left behind on the priority list to
keep the price down
the final dislike for me is the small
storage in base models
although the reviewed model rocks 512
gigabyte storage
the pavilion’s 256 gigabytes of storage
on base models is laughable for almost
any gaming laptop these days
even ones that go for under one thousand
dollars
this shouldn’t be a major concern for
anyone playing less graphically
intensive games
as those usually don’t take up much
storage space
overwatch takes up 30 gigabytes fortnite
takes up 26 gigabytes
however this laptop can totally handle
games like battlefield
5 and control that take up over 40
gigabytes of space each
installing a few more of those sized
games and your ssd will be full in no
time
the big question on your lips now is
should you buy it
the answer is yes if you need a budget
top performing gaming laptop now
the hp pavilion 15 gaming offers solid
1080p performance for a wide range of
games
you might need to keep the graphics
setting on medium or low
and you’ll certainly need to stay close
to an outlet but overall it performs
remarkably well for the price
the amd ryzen 5 5600 h processor
144 hertz refresh rate and mechanical
like keyboard will make you forget this
is a budget gaming laptop
but if you would prefer a budget gaming
laptop that has new better graphics card
you can consider the 2021 ss tough
gaming a15
see my full review of the laptop at the
top right corner
the pros are low price strong six core
ryzen processor
lightweight and the cons are average
battery life
insufficient gigabytes of storage for
base models
overall the hp pavilion 15 gaming laptop
does what it should do
as a budget gaming laptop bringing every
modern game smoothly onto the screen
however the highest resolutions and
quality settings shouldn’t be expected
from this machine
