iPhone 15 Pro REVIEW (After 90 Days) – What's the BIG DEAL?

Ever since the iPhone 15 Pro has come out, people have been asking me, “BMAC, what’s the big deal with the iPhone 15 Pro?” Let’s discus… What’s up, Internet? I’m Brian MacDuff, AKA “BMAC,” and welcome to another video! So this year’s iPhone 15 Pro brings with it some new features and changes that are almost certainly going to change the iPhone as we know it moving forward. But are all of those changes… GOOD changes? That’s what we’re gonna find out. First things first, I need to give a huge thank you and a shout out to Apple for

actually sending out an iPhone 15 Pro and an iPhone 15 Pro Max for me to be able to check out and review. So Apple, thank you. I appreciate you! But with that having been said, let’s just get right in to the nitty gritty of this new iPhone by talking about one of the most prominent changes that came with it, the DESIGN… and how things are looking on the outside of this new flagship Apple smartphone! Let’s just start things out with the obvious… TITANIUM. The new iPhone 15 Pro devices are available for the first time ever

with brushed titanium metal siding as opposed to the usual polished stainless steel siding of the past. The stainless steel size that we had were pretty much

just fingerprint and scratch magnets, but now the brush titanium siding is helping to mask those fingerprints and scratches and overall feels like it matches better and flows better with the matte glass back. The titanium sides have an ever so slight curve to them that meets the ever so slight curve of the front and glass back edges allowing for a smoother all around feel that honestly I don’t think could be

improved much more than it already is. The titanium siding is providing the same level of strength that the stainless steel is providing, but at a weight that is half the weight. We’re looking at about a 20 gram difference in terms of weight here – which, I know, 20 grams might not sound like that much on paper, but in everyday life you are going to notice the difference that that 10% lesser weight is providing. And it’s one of the things I immediately noticed, especially compared to the iPhone 14 Pro. The only drawback, if you will, that

I’ve noticed here is that the lighter titanium siding is further accentuating the weight difference between the top of the phone and the bottom of the phone making it feel pretty top heavy and makes it want to kind of just fall out of your hands more easily. It is what it is, but it is something I noticed or the more reason why I’m using the iPhone 15 Pro, especially for one handed use. But the second major change that was brought about this year is the addition of an “Action Button” replacing the Ring/Silent Switch. But the only

thing is Idon’t really find myself using it… like… at all. Now, don’t get me wrong, this was 100% the right move for Apple to make in replacing the Silent Switch, but I’m just not really finding a reason to use the Action Button in my daily workflow. I actually have my Action Button set up to currently bring up a menu of a whole bunch of different easily accessible shortcuts to use but I found that for nearly all of them I could get to them just as easily by swiping down into my Command Center. So I’m still

struggling to find a purpose for the Action Button. Maybe you could help me out. Please do me a favor if you’d like to and leave a comment down below letting me know what’s you’re thinking about using the Action Button for or what you’re currently using it for – maybe I’ll learn a thing or two! The other major design change we got this year was the switch from Lightning ports to USB-C ports on the iPhone 15 Pro… and I’m loving it! USB-C is a more universal approach to ports on a smartphone and it is probably the

most common port in today’s state of tech, but what’s perhaps even more important than that is the substantially faster bandwidth and data transfer rate of the USB 3 support that we’re getting in the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 Pro, especially as it compares to Lightning. Now I do wanna point out a little side note here: With USB-C, Apple HAS actually also locked the ability to use the iPhone 15 Pro to reverse charge your other devices. You WILL be limited to just 4.5 watts of reverse charging and you WILL be limited to just reverse WIRED

charging. Little bit of a downer there. I wish it was able to wirelessly recharge my various devices, but at least it’s a step in the right direction. The iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max both still do come with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, and they are available in four different titanium finishes this year with “Natural Titanium,” “Blue Titanium,” “White Titanium,” and the ever-so-beautiful “Black Titanium.” It doesn’t really matter what color you go with, they’re all beautiful in my opinion. But don’t let all these changes that are taking place on the

outside distract you from what’s going on on the inside. So let’s talk about the iPhone 15 Pro PERFORMANCE and what it’s actually capable of. In the iPhone 15 Pro, we are getting the next generation “A17 Pro” chipset with a noticeable change here in the naming scheme… “A17 Pro” instead of “A17 Bionic.” You’re getting 3-nanometer technology, an additional GPU core, and a Neural Engine with nearly double the number of operations possible per second, and two extra GBs of RAM… But I know what you’re probably asking… “How does this transfer to the real world based on testing?”

You’re getting a chip built into the iPhone 15 Pro that is almost as powerful as the base desktop chip that Apple puts into their laptop and desktop configurations which, when you think about it, getting that level of power in a device that fits into your pocket is pretty mind blowing. But if you wanted specific percentages here, benchmark testing is suggesting that the iPhone 15 pro with the A17 Pro chip is anywhere between 10 and 20% faster than the iPhone 14 Pro with the A16 Bionic chip in various different areas. And part of that processing power

is actually what’s leading to some of the iPhone 15 Pro CAMERA CAPABILITIES… So what are the photos and videos looking like this year when taken on this new iPhone? Simply put, the iPhone 15 Pro camera system is nearly identical to last year’s iPhone 14 Pro, at least as it relates to hardware. The one major change is going to be the ability to actually have a 5x Optical Zoom on the telephoto lens, but that is going to be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro Max and you’re still only getting 3x on the iPhone 15 Pro… but

you ARE also getting some improved coatings on the lenses, which should help overall optical quality. So basically what it all comes down to is the iPhone 15 Pro camera systems capabilities, when backed by the power of the A17 Pro chip, is what’s allowing for Smart “HDR 5,” ProRes 4K video up to 60 frames per second instead of just 30 frames per second, a “Next Generation” Portrait Mode, and – the big one – the ability to actually record in Apple’s ProRes “Log” profile. Pictures are as beautiful as ever on the iPhone 15 Pro as they’ve been

for several years now. But overall, I see that the photos you’re capturing on the iPhone 15 Pro are probably going come out a little bit brighter, a little bit richer, and you’re probably gonna notice this most when you’re taking photos in more difficult lighting situations. But my new favorite feature of the iPhone 15 Pro camera system has to be, hands-down, ProRes Log video recording. Capturing video footage on the iPhone 15 Pro in ProRes Log, and then using Apple’s own log to Rec. 709 LUT has come up with some of the most natural-looking, most cinematic, most

impressive iPhone footage that I have ever seen. It’s so darn good and so darn fun, in fact, that I’ve actually been sneaking in some B-roll shots taken on my iPhone 15 Pro in the ProRes Log format into some of my YouTube videos, Instagram reels, and YouTube shorts. So, even though the camera hardware is basically the same as last year in the iPhone 15 Pro, the software, the processing power, and the new camera features, I think more than enough make up for any kind of hardware improvement shortcomings that you might’ve been hoping for or expecting. But

let’s not forget about how great your photos and videos look when viewing them on your iPhone 15 Pro because of its DISPLAY… And how things are looking when you’re actually looking at the iPhone 15 Pro display itself. Similar to the camera system, the iPhone 15 Pro’s display appears to basically be identical to that of last year’s iPhone 14 Pro, but there ARE some key changes here, the first of which are smaller bezels around the front display resulting in a noticeable larger screen to body ratio. If you’re used to the larger bezels on the iPhone 14

Pro or earlier devices, I do think you will immediately notice the difference here that these smaller bezels are making in the iPhone 15 Pro until you get used to them and ultimately fall in love with their smaller size. I will admit that I’m not interacting with the Dynamic Island a whole heck of a lot. I think I still just need to get used to using it rather than just simply using the App Switcher something of the like but, even still, I’m loving it. You are also getting the always on display, the Ceramic Shield coating and

the adaptive refresh rate is still ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz with 1,000 nits of typical brightness and up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness. But, I know, with everything we just talked about, what is the BATTERY LIFE like and how long can you actually expect the iPhone 15 Pro with all of its bells and whistles to last for? With the iPhone 15 Pro, I’m seeing a solid 9+ hours of “screen on” time even with my brightness set pretty high. And for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, I think you could pretty easily get around 11+ hours

of the “screen on” time, maybe even a little more. It is still somewhat surprising here that the “screen on” time numbers, especially with the efficiency of the A17 Pro chip, hasn’t really changed those numbers a whole heck of a lot. I was expecting the battery to be a little bit better, but all in all, it’s pretty much the same which, listen, in and of itself is not an issue. I still think 9+ hours of “screen on” time for the iPhone 15 Pro or 11+ hours of “screen on” time for the iPhone 15 Pro Max is

pretty darn commendable. But with all this having been said, HERE are my final thoughts on the iPhone 15 Pro and whether or not I think it really is such a big deal. All in all, I am in LOVE with the iPhone 15 Pro. It is now probably my favorite iPhone of all time – better than any other iPhone – of course, in terms of capabilities and in terms of power, it’s prettier than any other iPhone, even prettier than I think the iPhone 5, which has remained my favorite iPhone design since its released over 10 years

ago. So I think now the iPhone 15 Pro has taken that crown. And then last, but certainly not least, it is most definitely the most “pro” photo and videography-based iPhone ever released. Overall, I think it’s the culmination of smaller but yet impactful upgrades, features, and changes that have been implemented here into the iPhone 15 Pro that’s making it what I think is my favorite iPhone ever made. it is! And I’ll see you guys in my next video!
