New World Gameplay Review | What You Need To Know Before Release

The weather was pretty bad that night. There was
a storm coming, but nothing we couldn’t handle.
Our path was charted to some secret island, I
think it was rumored to have riches and power but
aren’t they all? Our captain seemed a little
off he told us that our return wasn’t guaranteed
“Well” I thought, what have we got to lose?
That’s when these massive monoliths emerged
from the water and destroyed our ship.
Now, here I am, stranded on the beach of
a strange-looking island.. Destruction all
around me yet there’s something beautiful about
it. Could this be the one we were searching for
this is only the beginning of the story
and I can’t wait to reveal the rest of it.
You start out shipwrecked on an island with
barely more than the clothes on your back.
Your crew is dead and it’s just you. This
mysterious yet beautiful island is called Aeternum
and there’s nothing normal about it. The land
flows with magic called Azoth and it gives it
this supernatural aspect. This essence imbues the
plant life, heals and can even reanimate the dead
but unfortunately they come back corrupted. New
World is a brand new MMO developed by Amazon.
I had no idea they even made

games
but I’m so excited about this one.
What sets it apart from other MMO’s is that the
world is divided into territories, each with
their own settlements that you can control with
your company which is the same thing as a guild.
Your actions influence change on how the entire
game is played for everyone I’ll go more into
that in just a bit. There’s so much to offer
in the world of Aeternum but I want to go over
three main points: Character development,
Casual gameplay and Competitive gameplay
Right after the intro cinematic you get
to customize your character’s appearance.
You can decide to make them look as similar
to yourself or as far from it. It’s not like
anybody’s going to judge you, plus your character
will be mostly covered in really cool gear
that will always be changing. You can wear lighter
armor to be nimbler or wear heavier armor that
will protect you a lot better. You can also choose
to wear the best looking stuff you find because
all of the artwork in this game is so well done.
Throughout your journey you’ll also make a lot of
internal progress whether it’s leveling up to
become a stronger fighter or honing in on your
artisanal skills and making the best equipment
to sell on the market. One of my favorite things
about this game are how many skills there
are there’s gathering refining crafting
I can’t go through all of them right now but I can
guarantee there is something here for everybody.
The more you use the skills the better you
become and it unlocks new crafting recipes,
tools, equipment and so much more. Gathering
skills allow you to collect resources and it
makes you more proficient in that skill which then
allows you to obtain resources faster as well as
rarer materials. Those can either be used alone
or refined into a new item used to craft so many
different items like some furniture for your
house or a better fishing rod or even really
cool weapons like a great axe. Use the things you
craft to dominate the creatures during expeditions
that you and your friends go on and you can learn
what the source is behind all of this corruption.
You can’t have an MMO without PVP but you can
completely choose to avoid it if you wish.
There’s dueling of course, which lets you fight
others one-on-one and see who has the stronger
weapon and there are also large-scale battles like
war. In every town there is a town project board
which is full of tasks that you can complete
for quick experience, money and influence.
If this influence reaches a hundred percent
for your faction, like the marauders, syndicate
or covenant then war can be declared. War is
one of the multiple ways to have large-scale
PVP fights in Aeternum and the winner of this
war can take over the town which granefits..
Which grants benefit to players
aligned to the same faction.
I only got to play for a very short
amount of time during the closed beta
but it was some of the most fun I’ve had in
a long time. There’s so much more to the game
that I didn’t even get to mention here but I can’t
wait to uncover it when it releases. At this time,
the release for New World has been pushed back
to September 28th. It’s for improvements and
completely understandable but it’s also really
unfortunate because of how much fun it was.
Regardless, It’s still just around the corner and
I can’t wait for everyone to be able to experience
the same enjoyment that I had. This game is
really polished with minimal issues and has
tons of potential for growth. There’s so much to
do and if you’re looking for something new then
I’d highly recommend giving it a try
otherwise give it a couple months,
I’m sure you’ll rapidly see the changes you’re
looking for. Let me know what you thought of
the beta if you played it and if not, let me know
what you’re most excited for down in the comments.
