Renee like with her oh sure but there’s something about just like the quality of it it was very sort of like close to the mic delicate I don’t know okay yeah I get what you mean okay oh Sopranos cred in there it was actually Katie Couric that’s fun inside Christina Aguilera singing it must be right oh I wonder because I feel like they did a lot of stuff with like you know musical guests back then comes full circle not bad all right well we did it what’d you think oh Rob Letterman I think he directed
Goosebumps down the line oh okay I could be wrong about that what’d you think Tara I mean I liked it I did I’m not like oh wow I love this movie I’m like but yeah I liked it in the end the end was fun yeah I like the end this was one of those movies that certainly when it came out I might have rolled my eyes because because I don’t know like there is a moment in time and it still happens now but I feel like it was especially prevalent where you would have on the
more DreamWorks end of the spectrum and other Studios but I feel like they were especially kind of known for having these animated movies that would get these like really stacked voice casts and yeah it would be like okay we’re gonna have like a lot of hip cool hip-hop references and we’re gonna like do needle drops and we’re gonna reference like movies for adults and stuff and that can you know like that can read as kind of corny yeah but yeah know I mean with the room oh oh oh post cred Oscar listen baby I know
I was a bad girl you’d have to be crazy not to take me back did someone say crazy oh yeah oh okay weird yeah all right all right yes that was odd but okay yes yeah um what were you yeah yeah like this does come from a period of time where I feel like you know yeah you have these more sort of like we’re trying to be hip kind of movies but I mean this was perfectly sweet and enjoyable and it was fun and certainly I mean with the removal of time I’m a little more
open to the idea that like a kid can easily enjoy this despite the fact that there are lots of things here that are that are in their head right yeah with all the references kids aren’t gonna care about Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese and like all of the random um you know Mafia movie references that come with that right uh and the various you know like there’s Jaws over here and like kids I don’t think know who Katie Couric is right but uh yeah like I thought that they did a fun job of of
using those things and not like dominating the whole movie with them see because I was gonna say they used them but I was like I don’t know that the story was great enough for me to be like fully invested and also with those Easter eggs on top to be like those are diamonds uh like I I don’t know there was maybe it’s just like the I don’t know like the pacing for me maybe it was just the beginning maybe I’m just tired you guys I don’t know I like the movie inner child there was yeah
yeah I’m not saying this is like the greatest animated movie there was just something about it that I was like oh why am I not like really liking this right now even though it wasn’t like bad there were the the references which I thought were fun but I don’t know why I didn’t find it more fun and I’m assuming because maybe it wasn’t wrapped up in a story that I really was like invested in and I don’t know I don’t know why not yeah I mean you know as Story Goes it’s a pretty well-worn territory
for this kind of thing it’s about appreciating what you have it’s about realizing that you can you know live your true self and not have to kowtow to the expectations of your family or society and yes you should be honest and you should embrace the gifts that you do have instead of selling out to get to the top but that’s all normal tropes right right yeah I mean it’s very well-worn territory for what kind of movie this is and it doesn’t necessarily trans like the way it sets itself apart if it sets itself apart it
doesn’t like let you it doesn’t like linger to where you think there might be a bait and switch you kind of see it coming from the beginning right yeah yeah certainly maybe that’s why yeah it’s definitely like a predictable movie yeah uh and it’s got yeah a lot of tropes of animation and tropes of movies that are aimed at kids it’s just wrapped in this package that’s trying to be a little more hip yeah it’s trying to be a little more like Cinema referential um but for what it was like I had a lot more
I I had a much more enjoyable time than I expected to when I first saw you know yeah first learned of this and was like okay here we go like when he told me we’re watching Shark Tale I was like what what is what is that what is it yeah no I mean I remember seeing trailers uh a bunch growing up and and yeah it’s like it’s been there throughout my life but yeah and two I mean like it is fun to hear the a voice cast like this at this moment in time when so
many of these guys were I mean Jack Black I think is still like at the Pinnacle right now in terms of like he’s still super popular and recognizable and successful and a lot of these guys are too but I feel like yeah like this was probably at a time where it was like that was like dang it’s insane yeah yeah and I feel like they let Will Smith just kind of do his thing and there were some yeah and like with that there’s some genuine genuinely great times where I was like laughing out loud which
I thought was very very funny from Will Smith and then a couple other ones where I was like that’s very funny yeah and also I miss like Will Smith’s delivery yeah Primo in in some of these like jokes in his delivery I was like oh he’s so funny well yeah it’s like you got Will Smith doing Will Smith and then you have Jack Black doing more of a character and then you have everybody else kind of doing doing something in between yeah because certainly De Niro the whole point was like come in and be De
Niro I’m so fascinated as to how Martin Score says he wound up being like a main supporting character in this like whose idea was that what made him agree to that what maybe they were just like you show up for one day and let us use your voice you read these lines and you’re done I guess maybe like yeah and it’s one of those worlds too where I don’t find the need necessarily to like poke holes and everything it’s one of those societies where you’re like there’s a lot of clever and fun you know little
gags and twists on the fish version of how Society works and like oh it’s you know Gap instead of our gup instead of Gap and things like that yeah you know it’s one of those Society uh fictional societies where I think you don’t you shouldn’t think too hard about it because a lot of the things don’t probably really work if you think much about them but yeah except like it it was this was made in 2004 right so that was one thing I forgot to mention is that it’s it’s nice to know there was a
movie out there that existed way before it’s time to show people like it’s okay to be who you are because they’re kind of saying like if you want to cross dress or maybe be gay or be different I know this is me reaching John but I’m like at the very end of them going like I accept you for who you are is nice yeah right for 2004 I think what what that’s like a while ago when it wasn’t like a wild time for everyone to like be who you want to be yeah when being who
you wanted to be still kind of more just meant like hey if you have like an odd uh life path you want to pursue like you know if do it but keep it like you want to be an artist or something or you want to open a hot dog whatever it is you know like you can do it but but yeah I feel like there is that beat at the end where they are like if my son wants the dresses the dolphin you know like it’s just there and enough that at this moment in time
you are like that’s kind of picked up efficacy with age you know even though most of the movie is basically just like I’m timid and I’m not a carnivore so how do I still be accepted by my Shark family like that little beat at the end does make it a little bit more Rich of theme even though the movie’s not about that not that at all you know but at least there’s a little touch of that at the end which I liked yeah yeah and it’s just one of those like Pleasant flourishes like yeah this
this wasn’t uh uh like revelatory necessarily but it did have like some flourishes where I was like yeah okay that’s pretty fun that’s uh I had a a a a a a a fun time more than I was sitting here like you know rolling my eyes or gagging on things you know and I feel like it would be easy for a film like this to be more cringe yeah oh yeah and I wasn’t I didn’t feel I was I was having a good time I think I might also just be very tired yeah yeah well
no I mean I’m not saying you have to love this movie I’m just saying you know like this comes from that time where I feel like especially the Trope and they make fun of this nowadays of like why do animated characters always gotta you know break dance and they always gotta rap yeah um but even so like uh in subtle ways I thought that kind of complemented the movie because again given who the Will Smith Oscar is who his dad is you’re like okay this guy’s growing up in you know like a lower class part
of town and is dreaming of moving to the rich part of town and that’s probably a very common thing people can relate to yeah and then you know the way in which yeah you might lose yourself along the way um but you know like the whole thing with Lola very predictable yeah and and yeah like the outcomes like the drama itself always lets you know it pretty much exactly what the outcomes are gonna be oh yeah but yeah I like the camaraderie between Will Smith and Jack Black and I liked you know the ultimate wrap-up
made me feel good enough you know yeah I mean it’s like that lesson of like you can shoot for the stars and everything but if you’re not being honest with yourself and truthful then like whatever you gain in that process or the Journey of getting to the top is not going to be worth it yeah so we’re like yeah we get that and you can’t really climb to the top without the gratitude for what you have here yeah truth but I like some of the settings I like their uh Titan their their wrecked Titanic headquarters
and things like that and uh yeah yeah it’s pretty fun overall I I this was what I was hoping for in the sense that I just want to have a good time you know get a little bit of blast from the past yeah and uh and I mean too for earlier animation like we’ve certainly come leaps and bounds in terms of textures and just you know yes how great and real and vibrant everything looks but I still liked a fair amount of the design choices here I thought the world again had a nice little colorful
personality and uh and yeah you know it’s a cartoon certainly but uh it’s got its moments yeah it’s not yeah it’s not the kind of movie that’s gonna make you cry but I’m like you know the emotional beats are at least they’re they’re on point yeah like yeah this is something that I I I was heartened because I was like okay I could easily see how a kid could enjoy this whereas when I first you know saw that trailer I was like who is this for you know but uh yeah you know not bad I
think kids would like it yeah neat voice cast some fun takes on different characters and things like that you know so uh yeah Linda and uh one of the or both I can’t remember if it was one or both but uh one of the jellies was Ziggy Marley really oh snap yeah okay some fun additional voices all right Cass I swear to you guys that was Christina Aguilera singing at the end it was it was yeah her and Missy Elliott were on that track I think according to the uh credits so uh so good she’s
so good I mean you can hear that voice from anywhere oh yeah it’s got the frequency you can hear it at the bottom of the ocean um but yeah any any final thoughts before we hit the road to Tara Erickson no no except that I’m glad the whale Wash became a whale and shark walk absolutely bringing people together and keeping it clean Under the Sea yeah man I like that well guys leave us your thoughts on this classic DreamWorks animated motion picture and uh we will catch you on the flippers slipper side but before we
