Tee times delayed for PGA Championship

In this morning we are headed out to the Link says the PGA Championship is set to start today. As the best golfers in the world, we’re supposed to tee off in just about 20 minutes. But the cold weather and the frost have things delayed. Yeah, so let’s go back out there now to daybreaks Lauren Hall, who’s live at Oak Hill as the frost delay continues. Lauren, what have you learned? Good morning. Hey, good morning. Yeah, you can see over my shoulder. Of course, still pretty frosty and there is a crowd that has gathered. It’s mainly

spectators that were already on the shuttles when they got the notification through the PGA app. That play for this morning is delayed. So around us we’re kind of on the fan pavilion where there’s a concession stand, the merchandise tent, and people are just kind of standing around with hand warmers, coffee and just kind of trying to stay warm. You can see everyone’s breath but. It’s really not that unpleasant out here. There’s no wind. We’re just kind of waiting for things to warm up and and to see those players out there start to warm up as

well and start this first round of the PGA Championship here at Oak Hill. We are here right now with one of the volunteers, Doug Evans, Buffalo native, but a member here at

Oak Hill. And what do you think about this delay? It’s, it’s May in upstate New York. It happens, right? It could be 80, it could have a frost delay and we’re kind of all used to it here. The golfers aren’t, but we’re used to it. Have you been in a situation like this trying to play golf? And it’s a you had to wait because

of the frost before? Yeah. There’s been plenty of times when we show up to play golf and it’s a frost delay and you just wait it out. And when the sun gets up high enough and burns it off, we go out and play. Yeah, pour an extra cup of coffee. Everyone’s kind of just not really sure what to do, though. The mood is sort of confused. Anticipatory is probably great. Everybody’s that itching to go and get out there and get things really started. Have you heard if the players had started making their way to the

clubhouse yet? I had not heard. Don’t know. So they might get a little little extra sleep before their first round today. Well, I I don’t think you can go to bed, assuming there’s going to be a frost delay. So if you had one of the early morning tea times who are probably up and ready to go anyhow, and now you’re kind of just killing time waiting to get started. And was this something that as a committee of volunteers that you talked about as a possibility or prepared for? Yeah, we’ve we’ve got to kind of think

through what are things that could happen out there, right? You could have thunderstorms and you have to evacuate everybody off the course. You could have a frost delay in the morning. You could have other things that delay play. And how are we going to react to that and make sure we have volunteer coverage for, you know, when play does resume and when that happens, you’ll be one of the marshals. You have a team of volunteers. Tell us a little bit about what you do. Yeah, we have about 1600 marshals, anywhere from 12 to 22 on

a whole at a time. We’re there for spectator control, finding air and golf shots in the rough, getting the the players from the green to the next tee, and then facilitating traffic across the golf course where they have to cross golf holes, especially cart traffic and foot traffic there, so. Those marshals, if you’re coming out, they’re volunteers. Make sure to respect their directions and enjoy your time. Dress warm if you’re adding out here this morning. And hey, if you if you do have tickets for today, you have a little bit of extra time to get

here. We will keep you posted. One play finally starts here at Oak Hill Country Club again. I’m Lauren Hall reporting live. Peter, Melissa, back over to you. Awesome. Lauren, thank you. Super exciting to have one of golf’s 4 majors right here in Western New York. Lauren, thank you.
