Give me a sample of of sure. Alright. >> Panetta is 600 like on to. It’s

very offensive. Even tell me what is the only television know. It’s a cursed but it’s in the nov is cursed. Those beautiful like. >> Your your character is is not to give away too much extremely legal, shall we something? How do how does one get into character for for that Wall? >> One, we have an incredible support system that I mean, they’ve built me like an armored course. It’s soon as you type that thing up. If you stand up straight, so help you can help the. Yeah. Yeah. But the read through in urine, sweat pants

like I don’t feel like putting it all. >> And his 9 if you grew up in Puerto Rican debt and I read that when you watched as the original series we watched growing up. It was kind of hard to relate to some of it. >> Yeah, I was safe. Represented the spirit really emotional because I’m a kid from the mountains and the O’s are from the mountains and the elves are love nature. But there was an amendment reflected back and that was something that was hard for me, but was a galvanizing aspect that essentially said

the course for me to become what I am today. >> For full disclosure, I was not I didn’t see the actual of the movies that I’ve read the books. I think people can launch the series without having seen them in the movies and books and still a fully appreciate the story. 100 1%. I mean, because our shows thousands of years before the movies, it’s like the first chapter. It’s the perfect place to start. What do you think it is about about series like this were just about Game of Thrones a few minutes ago series like

this or the young compelling for a lot of folks almost obsessive. What do you think that it’s I think the the subject matter that acts to the story allows people to see themselves and their you find something about yourself. The suspects of humanity that transposed to fantasy. >> People are able to like exercise all of their hopes, their fears their potential. >> My buddy Carson Daly is it is a huge fan of the series and he wanted to join us. He had a it’s a phone. >> What ISIS? Here’s haha. I really are. Yeah, our

to cover him up in the end of the hearing. >> Well, very natural. And I just said to enjoy life. >> Does that Yahoo? More questions about the way? You know, we’ve got to get to the affiliates of doing so site gives you are the same ones over there. Not another disposable. You go to the ruins. >> We should mention the Lord of the Rings. Rings of power will be available on prime video on September 7. Up next, we’re heading into the upside down with one of the stars of Stranger. Stay with us. Stranger Things

did quite well when it comes to this year’s Emmy nomination for outstanding drama series. Just one of the 13 nominations we recently spoke with a member of the cast about what it was like working on the latest season, right? Gentleman who returned as fan favorite look. >> I think Maria has very much involved the season. He found his people more. He’s a less slightly less isolated, slightly less a jaded person. He was and season 3 because he’s sort of learn what it meant to. I have friends. So you see that development a little bit. But

he still, you know, he’s still a bit of a grouch and a grump. Yeah, a misanthrope as they set. We love a good critic who calls things out. How they are. You now calls it like it is. So I I think that that’s very much a lot of what worries Rowlands and the show. It is the darkest season and the approach to Maria, you know, as high as I play him, you know, I get to know more and more. So it goes deeper into it. And I mean, things are always bad. My favorite part about

playing Murray is that I got to be sort of the urban character amongst all these were all characters and they sort of things like City 5 to it. >> Yet the most to police, a vote motion. It can to keep us all. It said its K a. >> That I got to be one of the, you know, the character of life. We’re somewhat community relief and this action hero or serious, which is like kind of character that I grew up wanting to play, you know, and just I mean, getting to be in. He’s like amazing

action sequences and intensity of it. You know, law still getting to really delve into who he really is is. And and the humor of it is just up the bass. You know, I mean, getting to the and the Duffer brothers world. I think it has this character. >> Yet do me a favor and move your lover’s quarrel elsewhere. This is not a lover’s quarrel about. >> There May. What is your problem? Please stop talking. >> Now, I can’t tell you much about what Murray enjoys are up to and but working with that went on. I

was like, you know, it’s a childhood dream. She’s one of the the greatest actresses movie stars of all time. And and I it’s it’s amazing to me that I can call Winona Ryder, friend of mine. You know, that’s just it’s one of those just bizarre things like that pinching myself that this is my life and she we have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun when we work together. She is like one of the kindest people and so funny. And so getting to be working with her on this, like almost every day

that I work on the show was was just like an amazing journey. >> Well, it’s true. This is a bald eagle has what the court judge, an active member researchers right after the My Little pony. We went list. So he is the goal, right? Right, right. Bald eagle fly right by. >> With a little touch. >> Soon the team’s growth has been amazing. I mean, they’re really like just a great bunch of people going just so incredibly talented and nice profession and fun to be around. So to see that they have become a disaster for

people. It’s nice to see that that has not happened and that they all stayed grounded. It’s a maze. I’m really grateful that the Duffer brothers. Well, Rob, me more stuff on the show and they and the main worries characters and marines involved in the show grow. And it’s just it’s been it’s in saying it’s you forget it because when you’re working on the show, it just feels like family. You know, we’re just all in all cast and crew. It’s like we’re here to do the job and don’t have a good time together. When you step

away, you are reminded just how massive the shells I am the most exciting for people to see me. And just 2 days after says it’s just it’s really remarkable. Really enjoy my perform in a way that they haven’t ever before. So that’s very exciting. I know I’m I’m really excited, too. I just really the season. I think it’s the best season. And I think the other 3 seasons have been amazing. But I think though, and this is everything like up to a million, the green. It is Scary, more action PAC and funnier than and previous

seasons. And there’s such an amazing balance. All that that I mean, it’s just like it’s really it’s really awesome. >> Such a good one there. Next. We’re revisiting an absolute classic in honor of its 35th anniversary. 30 but this week marks 35 years since the release of Dirty Dancing. The film stars Patrick Swayze is John and Jennifer Grey and beige. And we get to watch what happens when you combine romance and dancing at a vacation. Check out this throwback interview from our ball with the late great Patrick Swayze opening up about the beloved film Fest.

>> Time we had a chance here to speak with actor Patrick Swayze was hoping to combine his skills as an actor, dancer and singer in a little over a year later now. Yes. >> In the film, Dirty Dancing. Welcome Back. Good to be here is the role as ideals on portrayed to be ideals up but well, I get to dance for me to get to saying you do a little music in this tomb. Yeah. I wrote one of the songs for. Yeah. Yeah. And now they’ve given up being Mister Rock star. I’m moving through the

back door and write music for the stuff I do. How long ago was that a? Was that ambition? The rocks are we talking more than 10 year? 10 minutes ago? Actually was Reese reason that I had to, you know, this is my priorities and get realistic like, you know, give up rock star are have, you know, how can I be an actor and going to or that kind of thing there? Reporter. So yeah, who’s Johnny Castle? You played Johnny Castle, this film. Who is he? He’s a he’s a low class kind of got from South

Philadelphia. That’s good with the ladies. And in return, he gets gold bracelets and silk shirts. And and he set in 1963 and what Arthur Murray School dance to have a way to do this stuff done. Make a living and doesn’t feel good about himself and runs in this hot little number who’s just about ready to grow up and I want to get myself in deep. So your mind, you’re all the middle-class guy from Houston to come dancing early and yeah, we sure it’s what he wanted to do. Yeah. Lower middle-class guy from Houston. Yeah. Trying

to sort it out and let everybody on that. You’re from Houston in your. You took it up early and I just called the middle class. But you say, well, yeah, lower middle class there. So the film, the film then had some poignant moments for you. I mean, you you kind of saw yourself and Johnny. Yeah, the that I mean, that’s what the level of identification for me that, you know, grew up not having it be too easy to be a dancer and and Texas. Why they thought those less wishing yeah you about you’re bound to

be weird if you dance. So on that level, I could if I were John and I didn’t go to our firm Arthur Murray School, they have to learn ballroom dancing. But yeah. >> In this film, though, you teach Baby Hospital as was Jennifer Grey. You teacher how to dance in in this case since you were the the one who was professionally trained in this. And and and for a long time, did art imitate life? >> We have because, you know, the fun part about this kind of dancing is is like, you’re you have to your

body’s have to really become one in order to move as one. In other words, I had to learn how to be a real good partner in order to league correctly. Let’s show a clip because in this when you’re doing some of the some of the work with them with Jennifer, but I think this was the scene at see the attached. >> Scott King is watching that one day. You know, we were all sitting around doing nothing. And he said that Ari was given a test for instructors. So with the past each of these different kinds

of dances, show you how breaking down how to teach them real. >> What is dirty dancing supposed to say to today’s teens about those of 25 years ago? Well, I don’t know. You can always, I guess not to believe what mommy and daddy and and social standards tell you that you you are stuck in this little box and can never get out of it that you can have your dreams come true and we all can if you work hard enough. And I think that’s what what baby teachers, Johnny, you know, that he believes he’s going

to always be used, you know, of a street kid, you know. And and and that’s all he’ll ever be no matter what he does and they they help each other. I think we all have that that person in our lives somewhere to it somewhere to our memory that we sort of hold dear, you know, the person that passed through our lives for one moment and was gone. But you’ll never forget. Sounds like a good offensive. Those goods. So it will be a rock star and tickets continue coming back to visit is okay. >> All these

years later, that movie still holding people’s hearts. That’s all for today’s pop star. Plus, thanks for tuning in. Will see you right back here tomorrow. Have a good. >> Today, all day, all day today, all day, all day. >> We’re right there that place and the look sorry to disturb your day. Everyone’s mad at you really make this past. >> When I see why we think I wonder what his vote would be given 6 minutes asked many questions this week and welcome to call guys. >> All time called. Zena was so nice to be here. Thank you for having me it as such. Our pleasure. I’m so inspired by your journey. You went from practicing law to creating and designing your own jewelry. Do you remember the moment that you decided to pivot? >> I

think Alyssa Ginny sort of thing you do. I think when you’re young and you’re like I can do anything. You know what? I can reinvent myself. I was practicing law. I mean, I really enjoyed it. I lent a lot, but I do have a creative outlet. So I started taking night classes at some of the big fashion schools here in New York. I got inspired and mixing us as putting my pocket Newell him and flying to life. And I will explain how making landfall action. That’s incredible. What a journey. I’m sure there’s so many steps

in between that what a jump. And now you actually find emerging designers, which is so great because you’re giving them a platform. What do you look for in those emerging designers? What’s wonderful is that we have a generation of 50 plus design is and we love to kind of mentor young image and design is so we very focused on if a gleam, a jewelry and so we don’t carry anything mask use and also really elevating the voices of died. This design is and we have a mix. We have some really established. Well-known design is and

these are great mean tools. Also for the young good design is to live fog and with the goal is to really deliver a product. It’s beautiful whole us yet. But also you feel good buying and wearing. Absolutely. So let’s get into some of the PS. I love all the products that you selected. And I want to start with all of these children pieces. This we’re talking about the fall. What are some top trends that we can look for a jury? I think the main thing I always but I think about 4 is keeping that kind

of some low sum of 5 in energy. We want really great transition pieces. So I know we have like a lot, Nicholas Lariat necklace, this plate to layer under a white should and then to layer over us with as we get into for. Yeah. I also included that hearing bone Nicholas, which is for 90’s, kid like they did a great night. His Fiat keep it 5 going. Also food sending troops should be in everybody’s to reward. Good. I see it very just tell PC convince them off the list and found they had that lots element

in the 22 karat gold leaf. But the very light be made to the site. So the very comfortable to wear. I also love we have these how you silver and gold from ages and do a great example of how when it comes to jewelry. There are no rules, right mix middles. They updated. Take on the classic lunch to so great. Easy to wear. If the day I know, you know, we look at stuck in a rut of winning the same jewelry all the time. I’m guilty of that. His fish is busy working woman right of.

And so you knew these sort of interesting pieces that conversation, Scott, is they stop people a little bit. You like, oh, wow, that something different on wearing a piece by we dream in color. And we’re told during snow by the same design it will handmade in. So we’re getting these little wits of also one of the. >> That’s a great way to put it. And I love that these are ageless. I can see my sister rocking these. My mom can wear these jewelry pieces so they make for great gifts as well as in. Let’s move

on to other essentials for the fall. So let’s talk about these lip stains. I love the color usage actually where I am wearing very thin. I’m it’s into 5 ianni who obviously can do no wrong guy. But the snow is so comfortable get not sticky. They released a they had just you live and tell us. But you know, you can kind of control. How much do you want by how much you layer it on? It’s everyday less comfortable, lips, thing that stays on and it feels so hydrating as well. I have it on my hand

and just like you do. But any fast lean on you just go right on your lips. Absolutely. Love that now. >> This product by makeup by Mario, it’s almost like colorless. The soaps Canyon sure and then it is or rentals pineapple with this weak tropical ladies so before we head outside to the ground. I first came out to practice says in my kitchen and we’re going to start with this signature me so soft. So this is the stone case to light yellow or tan variety, and in some rice vinegar

a little bit of reduced sodium soy sauce for this. It can be 2 tablespoons of honey I’m using the news room shows that we can you when you get this. It usually has at least doubled its and now to check back now for some more super foods we have here. The entire a weakened immune system and this is fresh change which helps to ease inflammation. This is the bottom whites in this County and then ends and they use the actually skewers fix this. So now our sauce is done and we’re going to with abstract. So

I have these families skewers that I soaked in water beforehand because you don’t want him to burn on the ground and I was hoping for about 20 to 30 minutes and now to take my scare. And these are frozen and defrosted extra large trend and should be the ultimate super fun because it is a needed source of protein, it’s only light on calories and so on alternating the strain with my scallion greens and there you have it I’m going to instill that in him hadn’t the this sweet tropical indulgent blaze. That’s going to come over

our grilled, super food pineapples first and adding some pineapple juice, no added sugar a little bit of rice wine vinegar It’s to a point on and once the spoils and then lower the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes to reduce it to about half that size, it’s a it’s a war and happens he school. It has stopped is already one thing on the tray and I have signed and get run. >> Slice my pineapple missed it the time. Now and then a grill them for about 1015 minutes on each side and in

the mean time. It’s trend has been cooking for about. In the left and cook another remains. Right before even like to give him another brush. pineapple slices and nice and criminalize and pineapples are 2 super food because first they loaded with vitamin C which has new boosting power, but also they have an enzyme called propylene which helps to digestion and uses information and we are going to kick these up in knots it’s result the Silas who visits her own. are firing up the grill for special Labor Day edition of make had met chef Curtis owner of when butcher shop and restaurant in Hollywood and the newly-launched private chef la is sharing his stake secrets. Curtis take it away. >> I’m going to show you how to cook the perfect state first things first taking me out of the refrigerator and make sure your temper and what that means is let’s just come up to room temperature saw that 30 minutes 45 minutes is perfect mixed get yourself some paper tell and just dry it off. All right Ted

and I and did the same day then you’re going to go ahead and season that stake so just using so I didn’t even put if because the paper will burn in a really hot grill pick that stay off flip it on and you’re going to season the other side as well all right so we’ve tempted it that was season that with sea salt and then you want to stick it on a red hot grill now whether that grill is inside using a beautiful group any or if you got outside on to the grill you can

do that as well go ahead, drop them in you want to hear that sizzle straight away if you die, come out here and turn it up nice and high right as you want to get that caramelize nations once you see that smoke, it’s getting too intense, you know wise guy had just turned it down just a touch you do want to really develop that COLUMN, so you let it rest for half the time it took to cook so I just took things off and I’ll be ready in just a minute. So what do you do

with those incredible stakes. Well I’m going to show you how to make incredible for me which is a delicious sandwich all right so for me, it’s a Vietnamese sandwiches really delicious you need to make a source of store, but man dies and a little bit of Sir, Chuck Wright put as much or as little as you like depending on how spicy like it. Go ahead make set up and that is use alstom so you’ve got to pick that up looking beautiful and golden brown right there and then what you do, you cut you think she’s

right up front. I’m Julie in Canada here. So you can go ahead and runs straight on through that which is really cool or you could use a knife and you could chalk that up but I’ve got some radish of got some out will some die car should say got some carrots and I’ve also got some sliced she covers so mixed you want to get yourself one of these beautiful back it’s okay just like that pick it up the EU lifted are fun. Generously at that mayonnaise dressing to the inside of your bone me. I like

to take some of those thin slices of cucumber and just sort of layer through just like this then some carrots. Some of that beautiful on radish. Now of course the most important pop is the approaching now from age to age, it’s not a peak of the reason that’s the case is because we let it wrist which is that important pop I’m going to go ahead kept that link for a strike that my rib eye. Let’s say it was live or die. I know that we’re not having giant parties right now dividing lines of people around,

but it doesn’t mean you should check the South so I have some of that delicious ingredients the other thing that you need to make is not charmed dressing it’s this simple to do a little bit of soy you put a little bit of sugar a little bit of ginger and you can just sort of little bit of lime juice you can kind of just squeeze those ingredients together like that. Give it a little wisc and that gives you that beautiful la flavor that beautiful Vietnamese flavor that you’ll be looking for just drizzle that over the

vegetables and you’ve got a beautiful ball may. >> Don the units. >> And so many thoughts going through my head right now number one, I’m so mad, I just got hot docs for and so number to him as if we try to recreate this feel like okay, good news my care, yeah, that looks so I know, and it’s always so good and we’re always means that we’re going to get closer to it, I know said Curtis thank you so much you can find these recipes on today dot com slash food, you guys do it let

us know how it goes. celebrating the end of summer it hurts to say that, but it’s true like the end of a good meal with a spin on some classic desserts perfect for the season, it’s also a big not to the state fair which we all miss this year today contributor contributor Elizabeth Michael school joins >> From her home kitchen, I’d love to be there. This morning, us now. good morning to you I’m doing great at to tell you when we talk about the state fair some of the best memories of my life, the Kansas

State fair so let’s. >> Have you ever going down that midway and you’ve got all those haha credible trailers with all that I I we don’t want it. Yeah, the state that. Well we’re going to start with the these are for ad Apple pot, corn dogs, they could not be simpler. All you do and you literally take an apple cottage fries and premade I’ve just got picked that up get all of the outside cross top of that you don’t want that. And now we just have this front and center we’re going to wrap it in

a in a pastry dough and you can buy that at the grocery stores. Well it comes in just like one of those roles. And then we just kind of kind of fashion this is supposed to look like a corn dog, so you want to kind of go ahead and cut it all that and then we’re going in that all. So the good news is is that when your prime you want to be about 350 degrees. A little piece of dough to test it put in the end if it starts to buzz above bubble and sizzle

you know it’s it’s all right where it needs debate white and here’s one that I get a little bit earlier so now we’ve got the feeling in there it’s been bride, we’re going to take one of the skewers which at hidden from myself now we get we’re going to stick that in the bottom of this a little bit of powdered sugar you could do some caramel sauce on top of this new ad so lately unbelievable and then, but so I’m going to cut this just so you can say oh oh oh come on and have

you ever in your life, I mean that is the easiest thing in the world now we could not have a fair with out a blueberry pie, I mean the pack on task is you know it is so iconic this one has balsa make and I’m already added in here a little bit of cornstarch and we’ve beaten up a few of these blueberries with back of this wouldn’t spend. Now we’re going to add our sentiment norad some sugar just a little we have been last we also have some honey which is going to be incredible so

we got that sort of a city balsamic we’ve got that nice Hyundai a little bit of salt and then and a little bit of black pepper, new wall it yes it will be that that you kind of go wait what is that like what is that you won’t have to put your finger it but you will certainly know it’s there. Here are the rest of our blueberries we’re going to add that wonderful cornstarch balsamic and the mixture to it and then it’s good I will mix it up just yet. And then this is going to

go right into our work. Now the recipe which will stay at today show they dot com for that pastry dough is super simple way used if a processor so you put all of your ingredients. Ana winds that around once it forms a ball. You know you just put it in the fridge, let it sit for a little bit and then we’re going to roll it out look at they are making all say that yeah, I mean, and this is the stage that this is the and of the of the freight sa’s and you know we’re

going to be working in the fall all apples and all of that pretty safe. So let’s go ahead, and you know really get into it with our very good news because they won’t be here long Elizabeth what it does not like right now. Jaime, it smells like for dogs, you know. It’s now absolutely in credible I’m telling you there’s nothing like that and you know I think people are taken time now to do some baking seriously try you know something like that I was really sad of always wanted to enter a pot at the state

fair this was going to be my year I was going to enter the U.S. and I know so I just decided to have the contest by myself to go to yes. Yes haha yeah, haha I mean I think you took first and second with those 2. An honorable mention it’s always a pleasure. Thank you Liz about a tiny to get. Yeah is recipes go to today dot com slash food. >> This morning. Let me through what to do with that summer produce local fruits and vegetables rather peak right now if you have some laying around

fear not we’ve got some delicious ideas for you blood Backstrom is the chef and owner of Olmstead, it’s a fine dining restaurant in Brooklyn gregonis team, including his dad built and designed the space which includes a backyard. Garden. Greg says shows 2 of his most popular dishes on the menu to start first on their dads watching in Chicago right turns on the couch watching how how involved was he in the open. >> Well when we finally get all and I was able to open up a restaurant, I didn’t really have a ton of money to

actually got the keys to the space but didn’t have any money to really fix it up so convince my dad to come drive out from Chicago and I grew up in an old farmhouse with a lot of the barn wood that was the bar and got to collapse. The tornado and we took it all is that the kind of frame out the restaurant and build everything and we’ve just opened up another restaurant across the street from the first one from homes, the community is French and these are the same thing we brought would from a

Chicago of course liver. >> Thank goodness, your debts and what we’re going make today we start with the Southern us only try to really keep that. >> To flavors that everyone knows but for you know unusual it so early tomatoes right now super in season and so we really simply just cut them like almost into a states rights such a big piece everyone right now serving their own tomato salad. Yeah, so we take it. We have our lives matter we can see those salt pepper and we just very simply mix eggs and flour and we’re

going to make and so intimate sniffle sniffle yes, so the idea being that it’s a hot heirloom tomato dish. Instead of just always a cold salad, OK so we we Cota in this battery here, it’s very simple that assist us in flower and then we dredge this tomato and the flour don’t get into the better but and like that is what’s going to the flower the exits in a golden brown what kind of oil there so that’s all of oil. Whatever tomatoes that you can get like the bigger the better read what actually makes it

into that it’s sort of the force Ben Doppler adulterated and turned into like a tomato that’s meant for shipping, yeah, and 54 can that’s right and it’s like at its peak. It’s it’s Crawford flavor. It’s like the original to middle Aaron, just means it’s the original what’s the verdict idea. >> It would take away from the fresh delicious tomato, but it’s almost it’s almost enhanced is, I mean, honestly honestly tried to to just pair it with things like right now it’s very simple the still only 3 ingredients. Yeah tomato flour and one of these young

the sauce is though that we’re trying so it’s >> you know because there’s a little toasty this to it. It’s a silly with discount paired with things that kind of go. Oh it’s so it it’s like a cottage cheese or simply you can make it or you can buy you just mix it with a little bit of olive oil and it sends it out and then to spread that yes roasted peppers with some preserved lemon what about some of the Bay’s all just mix with a Nacho these to picking up a little bit that’s a

cool take on a fried green tomato yes, nice, I was a little too and it’s on its side at least 1000 us it was a little bit more nice sometimes oils and sizes and then we lock that’s a case like this one are a lot of what I do on a snowy preserve what we presented like that was that just a couple of sides. So the decision but for everyone that stood on this you were going to turn this pay a speech this I’m going to dig into that match those like that what are we

making it so again super simple I was in the Boy Scouts amid a lot of peace cobbler haha so it’s just Peters with some salt serve some summer. Some of the very flowers here to kind of make it a little bit sweeter honey and lemon juice know we take some zest of one orange schools by the way it sought a minute right thanks to a minute ago that a man to have a but so yes, very simple we just take this we put we put to use that ella venue not and yours that you have

grown in the garden, we are now that the restaurants wrap it up. So set to become nice for us to get out of here is a full stick about there’s a lot of more heart absolutely land it’s so good so which makes a healthier. A lot of what that great okay, so it’s just equal parts, brown sugar butter. Ben flower boxes so and cinnamon was the flex to do that as a hostess took us. With the excessive food process that one of the voters call the voters, not going to really matter the trick here is

that you just take what you have us. Wire act that you have in your house and you just push it through. >> And you have a nice mix of laws and now is the time to make Iran is no way to do it right the little crumble the yeah I just think of that just look at Galveston city that’s >> Next those teachers are now pool and you can very easily to it. safety to feel the skin off. And you just cut us, that’s that you take the juices from the pan over so it’s really

nice and juicy and it’s just that we just got the restaurant like examined the restaurant. So the smell is always raspberry beaches and the guys dress want says. >> It seems as if the crowds. Alicia Steele thank you so much to him that everything today dot com by the way slash food that comes once a little death, Sam, I would be really matter. mother Valerie Bertinelli who always delivers great recipes and chock full of flavor of what it’s like having about why does she always makes us smile. Is, she’s also there to help and things

aren’t going as planned in the kitchen, take a look at her experience with hoda an upcoming episode of Valerie’s home cooking. >> Okay, so now we’re going to take our lemon okay cut in half and then use that right in. >> So this would be great for calm tales night and do the same thing with your lines in the same thing so what you want to do is when you put it in the juice or yeah, take your cut side and put your side down where the holes are ’02. That’s what you want when everywhere

yet there you go. This is amazing. No wonder I was losing out everywhere haha have we ever seen to cook no. You just got out of the. The per. How’s it going to end well. >> I’m very well, I’m just I’m I’m a big super rock band now I’m I’m just I’m I’m I’m the mother of you know. >> That’s my favorite title along with his mom so thank you Carson, yet his on top of Wolf is going on tour soon. And my follow-up question Val is the tattoos that new on his wrist and what

you think of >> Hey yes she just got the tattoo a few days ago. I’m very that. excited for him he’s so proud of that he was a lot of his band members got the same tattoo because they’re all staying at his house right now they’re all over her say they’re going to going on the road in 3 weeks and of course, I’m going to be the first show is going to get. >> And a front row Hugo handing handing a pasta salad to a man’s emblem, yeah haha stress, yeah. That’s so cool. All right,

let’s talk about this pasta salad. >> You got it so it’s a really easy summer pasta salad during pasta water just so that it would just come to a nice little beautiful color see how nice and right Greta gets yes, so I’m not going to take this out and put it into a big bowl over here. And just to put it together and it’s it’s so great because it’s got no in trying to make the dressing right now so it’s got me so okay a little bit of ginger goats and and then we’ve got some

soy sauce and some lime juice and a little rice wine vinegar over here, some Nola oil and for a nice bright strong case a little bit of sesame oil and then some sesame seeds that can help break up to me so and then you just give that a quick. Shake shake like you’re making a cocktail. He gives it a different profile to you know, when you think of the typical cost, the sound like the yeah it does it’s nice it’s fresh, it’s refreshing it’s a little bit different. I just had some some veggies in here

so it’s really that heavy pasta salad that I also liked it, but I feel like I’m being behaving a little bit he’s getting more vitamins and I no right and while the pasta is nice and hot you’re going to get that dressing right on and that is going to help that melt into everything and there you go. >> Vela use their come up says that. >> This is habitat fee which I really love because it’s got little grooves on the outside and it’s also that it’s little tubes so all of that flavor from the dressing

is going to really cover the hole. I think it’s really delicious I wish you guys I wish I was in studio with a one of my favorite. Warm. Yes, you can serve it warm you can serve it cold room temperature, I’m also going to give a little bit more than sesame seeds a like a little crunch in there and then you can really stop with some chives for some color. >> So is there anything in there. I mean this is a cell that could really just sort of sit out the whole day. >> Yeah, it

travels really well if you’re going to somebody took out, it’s just a nice little break from all the rigs and the burgers and hot dogs that I know that you guys that we we look at that over the week to a chilly and all that stuff, yeah, same before you leave us this morning, I know book can you tell us about it. I am I’m showing us about it. I mean it’s it’s a very very personal book. It’s about flight it all started on your show almost 2 years ago. My journey has taken the from

you know. I just don’t want to be myself up in the morning and I know so many women my age Unger older that we’re so busy beating ourselves up that we just don’t find though the the love and ran and the wonder and the grace that are really within that so I’m I wrote about the past 2 years greased happiness joy finding joy and I hope it touches some people’s lives. It’s it was a really challenging right for me, but it was cathartic. >> It was peace in their country committee. People’s loss to show enough

already that’s that yeah enough already with getting ourselves up. Yeah that’s thanks to. >> Check 1, 2, o one y. >> But no don’t do that to come on. You good come on, I got my dog years going on come on Doggy are in the book all the you’re enjoying it so far, I’m loving it sounds like it was like is it was as if you just spoke, and it all came out on the pages it did it, I mean we’re living crazy faith right now so we’re we’re excited, I got to tell you I

am over the moon to be sitting with you I’m over the moon to be making some space with you all this is awesome. Thank you so much for have I mean first of all welcome back to the planet Earth. I know you shot down and shut your phone down it took a break from all fans media all things phone. I mean this is an important place I think to begin pastor because so many of us are locked in tell me what your big revelation was by just the simple act of putting all phones, social media

way. >> Yeah, I think if I could sum it up in one word the word is margin. And I think about like the greatest things I’ve ever done deed or ever done. They came in the margin. It didn’t come when I was trying to figure it out it didn’t come when I was trying to make it happen. It came when I made space and it’s so amazing that the title of this podcast has to do with making space it’s it’s I mean when you look at my life story. When I when I’ve met you before

we were talking about my last book my first book relationship goals, number one New York Times bestseller first book crazy response helping tons of people but that message came when I came off of a month unplug from all social media know all Internet and it blew up and I just feel like there’s something that happens when you get revelation when you get ideas and when you get new thoughts when there’s margin and so this year I did it bigger than I’ve ever done before I took a 100 days and I was gone. >> I was

out of here what baby can wait, I want to hear about the Bay because some people would say you know what would happen. If I took off from my whatever I would lose my competitive edge people would be sprinting past me I took a break and I came back and the world went on without me left me behind. >> That’s false and what it really does is it puts you on the trajectory of unhealthy that one day you’re going to look up and have all of these things and hate your life see what ends up

happening is you don’t stop to enjoy what has happened to be able to look at all of the amazing miracles that are your life to enjoy the children that you work so hard for when you do it you look up and you run on the motor for 2030 40 years and then look up and not enjoy what you’ve built. Yeah you’ll get off of this treadmill and didn’t like I’ve been wanting so hard to go no way are and what happens when you take a break or for my beliefs, a sabbatical for a time of

extended withdraw wing. I learned from the greatest leader I believe that ever lived was Jesus when you just study in from a historical in the leadership standpoint he’s doing all of these miracles all around the world, but like after these feeding 5,000 and doing all this stuff it says and he withdrew often he was thinking about like if you are like claiming to be the son of God on Earth like why in the world would you have to withdraw like why in the world would you have but I believe there’s something that happens in solitude

that that makes you humble and for anybody that would say like you don’t say they passed me by and this. You don’t realize that each one of us come to this earth with a line that we’re supposed to run Ian and it doesn’t matter what anybody else is doing whats for you is for you if you can stay healthy enough to run in that Lane. And every time that I take this break or make space what it does is it gives opportunity for me to re Center for me to refocus and we need to remember

who I am why A and B one. >> Created to help you get that message is you said you know when you don’t seek it out. It comes to you when you make your face it comes. How does it like how does it come to you how did the messages wrist how do you receive them. >> So something that’s a practical practice from the everyday is I have what I call quiet time. What I do meditation prayer I read scriptures and I write down the things that I feel strongly impressed on my heart and sometimes

it’s things like go take your wife on a special date like I just feel like impressive do that and other times it’s like hey pray for that family or up go give to that person or re description over and over and over and over again, and I just follow those prompting says you know the crazy thing is people are still enough or silent enough to even listen to themselves to be able to see how they’re feeling to be able to see what what is being told to them by the people they love and by the

de the things that are speaking to them and when I make that space every day. It’s so crazy that one hour out of 24 hour can begin to set the trajectory for my life, my family and miracles to happen in my life that I’m really making me feel like one. I’m just a part of something that’s one way bigger than me and I’m just grateful that I get to play a small part, you know what’s funny, it’s so funny you’re saying musk has lately in the mornings. I I always write in a journal and usually

it’s gratitude journal 3 things but lately I’ve just been writing like what’s on my heart, it’s a conversational have with God by myself in the morning, yeah, and for me in the morning, I get up at 03:30AM get a person to get to work. But there’s even space then like yeah, that 20 minutes because I try to carve it out and sometimes that’s all it is and I’m wondering like what’s what am I supposed to be doing today. How am I supposed to be of service night the next morning reflect all say did I do

did I carry out those things I felt like I should have that >> But boy and that’s 20 minutes at 03:30AM in the day. morning. That’s it. >> That’s that’s what it was that it doesn’t mask what the time ease its that you said intention for that time and I think that’s one thing that in today’s society. We let media social media. Our schedules are children, we’re land by all of the things and we have not taken charge and prioritize the things that actually help us be healthy and whole and present to the moment and

for me that’s hard for me to say like I even say this to you right now, I sound like a completely different person than I was 3 years ago because I found that my motor of running and going and making things happen and grinding and all of these words we we have idolized in 2021 you know, I’m saying all of those things were coming from and listen to me say this and unhealthy place from my childhood and I was trying to out Lynn in significance and insecurity from something that was so long ago and now

it’s the thing people look at me is like man that guy has a crazy, I mean he he’s always going and everything works and what I was really doing was learning from pain and it came out looking like so much drive but it actually was a an unhealthy route that I was trying to compensate for and so when I see people that are so driven and can’t take a break and and think it’s proud to have vacation days they didn’t use in this year and all this other stuff it’s a telltale sign that there may

be something unhealthy in the past that they’re actually trying to work and run their way out boy that’s very. >> Very low to found that one, do I need to sit in this I need to make space for that comment. But you are so right because people are like I only need 5 hours of sleep. I worked Saturday’s high 5 high 5. So one of the other things I love that you do that I try to steal because you have so many good things I want to get into the background your life, but I just

want to get a couple of Nuggets before we go there which is cut you set intentions for your relationship with your wife or your relationship with your kids for your job. OK help me because I want to do this so what how do you do it. What are you doing how are you improving your relationship with your kids, your wife, your job, what do you do. >> I think the first thing that you have to understand is when you say you desire to be kean’s to move your life in that direction in most people are

scared to even say what they’re hoping for they’re scared to even say like you know what I hope to be working a job that I have time for my family like they won’t even say day and what I’ve designed my life around is being voice activated, steeped in my faith and that’s why I wrote the book crazy faith that’s why I’ve I’ve I’ve started to try to give away the plays that I’ve used and so the first thing I mean honestly is got a vision and wrote the vision down and made it plain and I

do believe that a lot of good example giving take like like very basic like I will date my wife for the rest of my life, I said that out loud but it wasn’t enough to say it. I had to write it down and I had to write it down to the point where it became written down in my calendar every week. So every Tuesday night we have a baby sitter no matter what happens and I am going to date my wife we’re going to go to the movies were going to go on a walk. We’re

going to go swimming we’re going to do something together because there’s no way that I can come in my life to all of these other things and then by the way kind to make my wife it into the picture. And when I wrote it down when I said it out loud when I let my intention be known and I put that beating down on paper, it’s been 2 and a half years and every week we’ve had a date and whose weeks twice, and me and her are closer today than we’ve ever been that’s my high

school sweetheart I met her when I was 15 years old and we’ve been married 11 years we’ve got 4 kids we learn a bunch of businesses together. But it did not happen by accident right. I do not let anybody come in between what I say and what I do so that I can get the result that we’re looking for did something like a lot of people have problems in their marriages years wasn’t perfect either not all nobody who I’ve ever spoken to his head of Pat had a perfect one. So did this intention come from.

Our relationship isn’t working and unless we do something yes, so are our intention at Lee came from if you’re married more than 5 years, you’re not married to the same person you may read like and then we’ve got a revelation that you keep changing every 5 years and I need to re-learn who she was what she used to like she didn’t like him, yeah and so I would do certain things and I was like man that use the real work like that used to really get you going like what what happened and so we made

an intentionality that I am not going to pause your growth on the fraying that I remember you and I want to keep learning you and out of that you not think it was we had 2 kids and our our son and we found out he had autism and when we talk about crazy faith like I’m sitting here and I’m believing for a change in his diagnoses and we’re going to therapy isn’t all this other stuff and in the midst of all that I realize that situation changed me and my wife a bunch too and we

had to go into a level of intentionality in making space for the new version of who we were to each other and fall in love with that person and as we begin to do that. We like that person better than the one we may read like you know them say like we begin to understand like man, I love you even more now because we’ve been through this together and because you’re still here and because we can still laugh about that and again making space made us. >> Love each other even more and I don’t know.

I’m right after we get off this podcast go find on this right now I need to give her a hug and a kiss right now by the way I think that what you said was so profound the person who you’re with now is a totally different person than you are with 5 years ago, although they still sleep on the same side of the bed, they still use the red toothbrush they still do what they’ve always done they are different and you’re right. It is re-learning I’ve actually it’s funny been having these conversations with Joe lately

about this is who I am today I used to enjoy doing that stuff and now I’m this person yourself like is this, I got for my soul talking or is it God because I was wondering how do we and I wanted this just for myself how do you figure out if it’s your will. >> Or him I have this chapter in the book called maybe faith and I think it’s my my favorite part of the book because people’s like how do you know it’s God how do you know it’s the right thing and most pastors

won’t tell you this but I’ll tell you very straight. You don’t like you don’t you don’t know what the starting line is this God, it proves to be got and this is why I tell people I live my life at 51% faith. If if I found 51% sure it’s got I’m going to pick a in because I have the heart to be able to be corrected. I’m to say you know what I miss that that I thought that was it but I think my bad guys really going on and that’s where I’ve been able to

see so many amazing things happen because some people stayed at the starting line is like OK, how long it is going to say how much is going to cost are we going to win is this worth it in the end up living their life paralyzed. A pause at the start and what I do is it’s very I tell people this I said it’s it’s a lot easier to direct a moving car. Then it is to to direct or or steer a car that standing see that I really do believe that as you start making the

step like I’m not sure that this is it but I’m going to at least start looking up homes in the city as you make that step then there’s either confirmation or denials or checks or your piece is not there and then you’ll know like well, maybe I need to go back to prayer may be a need to do something else and as you live on maybe faith like maybe this is yeah, I see so many good things happen and it just takes being humble. >> Well, I do like that you talk about change because I

think a lot of people say whether they’re in a relationship more friendships would like people are who they are you either accept them or you don’t people don’t change they can change around the edges but in reality. That’s who that’s how they were raised that’s the way they’re going to be what’s what’s curious. I don’t really believe that because I know who I am. >> I know who I was and I know why I’m I’m trying to be I was a liar I was a manipulator I was somebody who was addicted to and wrong images

and I had a lot of evil in my heart I I only look out for myself I was very selfish like that who I was it’s was it wasn’t what I presented, but that’s why was on the inside and now today. I look at my life and how I give everything that I have to help people to serve other people to make exceptions and allowances for people’s faults and shortcomings how I like that was not me like that like that was not the I I had a a potential. What was it called a I had

a case in court for car insurance fraud. And like all like I was a career. He’s the guy. And the fact that I’m sitting here today and I am I am all about spreading a message of hope love faith and really helping people become their best versions. I know that transformation is real, I know that change is possible and I am acutely aware of the grace that we all need to be able to make those decisions it did your change did your moment. >> Did it come like a lightning bolt did your moment of change

come in baby steps and take years like yeah. >> My one of my greatest saying that if you come around our church our organization you’ll hear this all the time progression not perfection I think that this if this could become people’s entre they would be able to do so much more when they allowed the little movement forward to be the win instead of this big like you said lightning bolt and Mo wasn’t that for me. It was like this year, I’m going to become better at listening and keeping my word and next year, I’m going

to try to stop eating up a gallon of ice cream every night before I go to bed and this year, I’m going to open my scriptures and I want to read at least 10 minutes a day like it just has been like maybe the Russians baby steps, baby faith just making moves and I look up 1015 years later is like you’re a pastor of a church talking to hundreds of thousands of people weekly and like like who are you like that’s how I feel. >> Do you ever drift away from God. And. >> You talking

big language right here right now you used one of my trigger words of drift. This year our word for our church is anchored and we’re trying to get incurred spiritual emotionally physically like it’s in every area of our life. But the tag line is this is the year of the anti drift and the one thing about drifting, so you said drifting it like my whole body right there because drifting is natural if there’s not intention say that again that was good drifting is natural if there is no intention. Yes, if you put a boat in

the water there does not have to be a storm for that boat adrift. If you just put it there with no anchor. It’s going to be out to sea in an hour and a half because there was no intention of dropping anchor someone who’s and yes to answer your questions there tons of places in my life that I have drifted because I was not intentional. So one of those areas was in my health very practically the church is blowing up I’m having all of these kids and as that are just blown up on blowing up

like I eat an everything on fat and happy, I’m I’m eating ice cream, I’m doing all the different things and this year when we talk about anchored I looked at myself and has 264 pounds I was completely out of shape. All of those different things and in a quiet time I really felt so strongly that this was an area that I had been drifting. Yeah and I made a decision that it if I was shown something I was going to start in crazy faith making steps toward that. So we started eating better got a trainer

like I literally just finished working out on a hunt, I’m 229 pounds today from that was 4 months ago and 229 pounds almost lost 35 pounds since I made the decision. right now I feel like I wish I could not one but but is there is there and I’m not going. I don’t want pin you down right now in case, you can’t some of you can’t remember you’ve done so many great sermons but was there one that really resonated with people in a way that surprise you I mean I know I can I mean, I’m

feeling like we’re having one right now we’re just having a podcast but but was there was there one that sort of sticks out in your mind if that you can share with us for a little bit. Yeah, I think. >> It would be the first message that I ever did of crazy faith. I I came off sabbatical like literally this was my first message after being off for 6 weeks. And when I got up and spoke. I told people I brought 2 chairs out on the stage and one was a key chair in one was

like an adult chair. And I was telling them, I said most of us don’t have faith in such ation circumstances in places if it doesn’t look strong enough to hold this up. And I brought this big guy out on stage and I said which here would you want to city and any a course in the big chair, and I said what if I told you that the small cheer was manufactured to hold you up. What if I told you this was God’s will for your life what if I told you that it can carry your

weight which chair would you choose, and he said I’m still to take it. And I said doesn’t this sound like many of our allies that we would rather choose the thing that looks good in the thing that was built for us the thing that that really other people would say it is not really the best for us. But the manufacturer our God tells you like I know this doesn’t look like what you thought, but I want you to sitting, I said what if I sat in that chair Dean would you sit in it, he’s like

maybe its asset and the key to it here and we’re about the same size and I said now would you sit in that chair, he said I don’t know, I said sit in the chair, I said look how much time you’ve wasted being able to stand on your own when something was designed for you look different yeah, but really was designed by the way and then when that man sat down in the chair and held them up like he was being cautious the whole Auditorium begin the shout and you know IM saying the and because

it was a picture and with so many of us I living with a living this idealistic life like if God would give me do this and my chair look like that in our head this has yeah I had this job and I was able to work at this city and all this other stuff and us to know these chairs different it looks different is not probably what you would a pump. I designed it specifically for you this for you would you have crazy faith and put your weight on it see the whole thing was he

didn’t care of somebody else put their weight on it, but faith is actually putting your own weight and believing and trusting that this thing will hold you up and I don’t know somebody may be listening right now that has an idea of what you want your chair or your life to look at life and God may have a different chair for you that you’re going to have to step in crazy faith and put your weight on it, but when you put your weight on it how much more exciting to be in something that was manufactured

for you your life, your family and I didn’t know it was going to resonate with so many people why what we put that up online and millions of people have watched that message and I’m just started living a life of crazy faith after that. Well you are such a unique pastor, you’re all by yourself. I mean you help people with relationships, you talk about people things that. >> That you don’t expect a pass to talk about and I love that because that’s who it’s all part of us this book crazy faith is beautiful, and I

love the subtitle it’s only crazy until it happens. Michael Todd man what a blast. Thank you all we could do this once a week mobile August night, the mic in to show you can we can I listen, let’s let let’s let’s do a hour every week or every 2 weeks, let’s do it I’ll be your sidekick any day of the way. got a very special edition of pop star. Plus today show is all about one of my favorite things on Planet Earth. We’re talking about music today. So here on THE TODAY Show We love to showcase the biggest artists in their newest traction. Over the next hour, some of the industry’s biggest stars are going to talk to us about their biggest hits if you’re into people like Harry Styles are Jack Harlow, Sheryl Crow, We have got you covered country listeners about Keith Urban caught up with us on what he’s got going on as well. If you’re

We’re talking about the one and only Lizzo the latest out of special drop in July marks by her visit to our Plaza. And of course about d*** time has now hit number one on the Billboard hot 100. Let’s take a listen to Lizzo’s visit with us here at one. A >> Lizzo. You put a smile on every single face I see here. >> There are a lot

of faces out here for you. >> It’s been a very wild week. The enemy’s yeah. With 6 noms unlike the album and about that, Tom, be a number one. Just can’t handle it. I feel like Christmas home. >> We talked for second about the Emmy nominations. I mean, we expect Grammys. We expect Fame. >> Emmys, that’s something special. You expect Grammys. I expected. I want to play music. And yeah, I mean, we’re shocking. I mean, >> even I mean, we did watch out for the big girls. Just like you have dancers. Yeah, I didn’t think

about trophies or or accolades. So to be acknowledged is just incredible. I already feel like a winner. Well, you know, being her the Emmys in September, actually. So we’ll be there may be the last to perform at the kind of yeah, that would be cool. Just a little hand is on NBC. >> Talk to me about the new album. It’s about darn time. Haha. I cleaned it up. It’s a family shot. >> Right? Yeah. I was struggling with the clean was earlier. Who saw me running through his. I’m the album is it’s out. First of

all hope I was up way later than I should have been just on Twitter. Looking at everybody’s favorite songs. Call plays like a standout. Special is a standout and to be loved, which I want to do free. Also day, I’m so proud of this album. It was 3 and a half years in the making in. >> It’s literally a classic. Most gives album is the best thing I’ve ever done. But you know what’s funny at listen because you’re having this incredible moment right now. There are people who don’t know you as well as our crowd

who may think this came easy, that this was just something like she’s talented. She has a moment. But this whole moment you’re in was a long time coming. Wasn’t it? Tell me about it takes 10 years to be an overnight success. >> I’ve been doing this since I was 9 years old, have been writing songs of his studying flu since I was 12. I’ve been in rap crews and I put a little bankers in 2012, my first solo mixtape. So. >> I’ve been through it all girls home here and he’s very was getting now. Do

you think? Because that’s how it was supposed to go down? I think I needed to discover myself love, I think because the music that’s connected to people is about myself, Levin. >> 10 years ago, I wasn’t here. Haha, I was not at this play your. >> That you’re ready now and you’re going back out on tour the form in front of a crowd like this. You were born for >> My favorite thing was it was like how much so great. And you can see there’s a lot of like, yeah, let’s take it to the floor.

I offer this special tour bring a lot. So it will be big, big energy. And we just added days because we sold out Madison Square Garden. We all got my out though. We did sell. >> She’s so fun. And what a talent that is. Lizzo. So thank you for being here was up. Next up, we checked in with another pop sensation that Mister Charlie Food. Now, Charlie also spent some time with us back in July and highlighted all the fun he’s having on TikTok. >> We’re so excited on this Friday morning. Have Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Charlie

Puth with us on our City. Come yeah. This week Charlie announced that he’s 3rd album. It will come out October 7th. Charlie, good morning. Good morning. This and everybody, you know that people sleep on concrete overnight so that they can see you in the morning with a lineup and they have been waiting all night to see you. I don’t know why. >> I appreciate it. >> About this album because there’s every one is unique in its own way. People actually got to see the process as you made this on TikTok. They tuned in. >> Right.

I want to people the one that everybody to feel like they wrote the song. Yeah. So by the time and now the they wrote the song. Yeah. So by the time and now the movie is time they felt like a boy. I part of the song. I wrote It. >> I Love it. What it was this your 3rd album. But this is this one is self titled. Yeah. It’s called Charlie was. Was this one cell type? >> In the past? I’m I I love my first 2 albums. But this is the most true I’ve ever

been. I know that super he shouldn’t say that. But this is the album that I would have put out. If this were my first. Why do I did it? I was, you know, record label stuff. Yeah, time. Yeah. Different record. >> Asked earlier for people to raise their hands. If they follow you on TikTok, I’m blown away. What is it about the community that love and you’re making songs there? You really connect with them there. >> All I want to do in this for everybody. All I want to do is inspire you to make music

out of non-musical things because even the subway running in the background right now, a flat something like that. I get there that and then are the the sound of your voice could be made into a song. Anything could be made into music. And that’s why I joined TikTok was just proved that. >> And for the people who didn’t watch on TikTok and they’re wondering how do you make music? First of all, you have perfect pitch which is one of those incredible thinking of the subway sound. What you also scratched things down in the notes section

of your phone. You have different ways of making music definite. I mean, this next one we’re going to perform for. You came to me in a dream and I just have them. >> And I wanted to play with panic because that’s how the Beatles used to have their vocals on either side. The left or the right side. Does it just come to you like that like in the middle of the night? You get. >> Literally it happened on the plane right here yesterday. When a sight you’ll hear. >> Charlie’s got it all going on. We

know that we can’t wait to hear more from him this fall. So coming up after the break, we’ll continue with our Megan Music stars Conan Gray shares. What’s behind the honesty in his music after this? covering the best of this summer’s music. A lot of it around here. Conan Gray is a rising pop star known for his deeply emotional songs that connect with his fans across social media. And he was nice to stop by our plaza. And we asked them few burning questions. >> And for some reason, my picture you a picture of a 12

year-old little one in his bedroom, singing and writing songs. Now you’ve got praise from Elton John from Taylor Swift, your besties with Olivia Rodrigo. What do you think about being at this moment in your journey? >> It’s a bizarre. I don’t know why anyone can. Carolina. They do. Yeah, because I think that’s part of the charm to I feel like you’re unaware of how awesome you are. Do you guys think that? >> It’s such a great moment. You know, I want to ask about something because you write a lot about love you a lot about

heartbreak as well. But you also said in the past you can never really been in love. So, yeah, right, so well about it. What is first come from? Here’s the thing. >> And then left before they just happen. Loved me back all. >> Which now the songs all Make Perfect sense. Okay. I pulled your beautiful crowd for some questions and these were the pressing ones. Number one, how do you get your hair to look like that? I’m just beautiful. Haha. The second question they had is what is your New York City bagel order? Bacon, egg

and cheese. The 3rd one is that everyone has. >> A lot of was your coffee order just to just to black coffee. Always like coffee. No sugar. No, Chris. So the point that I want to ask about the fashion. Yeah, because this this is what we think about the outfit. I mean, it’s got to go out that, but that’s still pretty high. What is that inspiration come from your fashion sense? >> I feel like my whole life fashion has always been something that I used to like hide myself for like the skies, you know, scared

the lately. I just realize that nothing really matters and matters or just have fun with that one here. >> Well, you’re in luck. We have a bit more with Conan Gray. Here’s his visit to the 3rd hour. >> 23 year-old superstar is releasing a second studio album. It’s called Super 8 and he stuck around. Tell us more about a congratulations. I want to thank you for having. No. Thank you. Thank you. We feel like we’re at the beginning of something that’s going to be huge change. I asked yes side about the title super break and

your little coy. He’s super wake. What’s The What’s the back story on the album title? Backstory is I wanted to like come up with some more that kind of had that feeling of like. >> Knowing your like getting over something, getting over a breakup and you’re being really annoying about it. You’re like holding on your friends and my kids. This is the end of the world. Like it’s not like it’s just not that serious. Someone like a like a super aching. I wanted that. Like kind of lingering. Yeah. Yeah. Are you getting over the World

Cup? I’ve never dating. So could really. And is a liar. Well, yeah. Haha your fans out there, girls, guys, everybody just screaming over you and your performance this morning. So how does this new album differ from what people have heard already? Yeah, I wrote my first album could Crow when I was a teenager and it was a lot of team makes. It was really a he stated. And I think since then, my anger has sort of soft and too just so much sadness so that they can get on set for a really exciting. Yeah. Haha.

Yeah, that’s about that. What do you mean? I mean, I think that’s the progression. When you’re do you like like fighting against the world and are now like maybe maybe some things, my fault, maybe sometimes like you break your own heart, you know, things aren’t personal. You know, sometimes people just tossing hearings for yourself. I think that’s like the biggest thing was always kind of put your emotions into like They’re IX. Yeah, I’ve always run. Even when I was a kid, I would like right. Little Devils for like signs that see on the street or

like like Goldfish and stuff like I got just a single songs. And eventually I started writing longer. Songs was 12. I Love it because you’re really targeting like that. Those things that you have to sit in and just process through. I also want to ask about Julia Michaels, the Grammy-nominated artist, because you’re able to collaborate with her on a few tracks. What was that like? I mean, she’s incredible. She’s just like me. And I feel like they’re very few people in life who will really tell you how they feel about something super. Honestly, it’s just

dead, honest all the time. I think that’s so important when you say just like me, is that what you mean? I guess I feel like it’s important to be brutally honest with some writing for people to actually be able to relate. >> One of the things I noticed where outside is is your fans. They really seem to deeply feel your your music. They’ve been releasing to a mode when you’re up there to what do you attribute that? What do you think that your fans really are able to connect with your music in such a visceral

way? >> I think that I just write music like it’s my diary, essential. And I feel like, you know, any any human emotion, any real soon nationals really nice and comforting to be able to Lyon. >> I hear that. You’re big fan of plants. We don’t think that’s odd at all. In fact, yeah, we want we want to help you embrace this. This like you saw last one to present you with something. This is a special all today. Thank you as fern. That’s what’s so special guests for when I was I wanted to be a

biology teacher. So really loud. So when you’re about to start and your whole big tour. >> You’re going on on the road for 3 months. Are you bringing plants with you may be offering from? >> Take for for good friends. Haha, thank you so much. >> Again, great to hear from Conan. That’s still coming up. Nashville comes to New York City. We’ve got updates from Country Star Keith Urban and Maren Morris. Next. the best summer music here on today. So Keith Urban first moved to Nashville back in 1990. He’s obviously the making its hit after

hit after hit. Ever since then he spoke to us on the PAS about returning to the stage in the wake of the pandemic. >> We are back with Mister Keith Urban. I was saying that Carson knows GTE. I did. Yeah. >> He goes complete songbook and get hard. San Francisco and I learned, you know, all those songs that would use E D. >> We’re going have to sit in with a Scotts. Haha. I started when a 6 you did out. Yeah. And he is the place that did you have lessons ERs? It’s one of the

yeah. That’s not what some call it. Yeah. I just left it. Wow. So you’re back on tour finally and what’s it feel like out there? Amazing. It feels like we never left even after that long and not playing the first show. Felt like so anyway. He just played the week before. All that great thing. Yeah. >> And your 16th anniversary. >> Yeah, it is. Yeah. That how is that celebration? Really good. And we got engaged here in New York City. So it’s nice to be back. >> And your girls are growing up. They add we

have a tween and teen. Yes, they think you’re cooler now. >> I think it’s on and off the Yahoo. That is new to the news. At least. Yeah. That was you’re doing 50 dates, right? Yeah. That 50 dates. So yeah. First, come out to see this time around. What can they expect that just a whole lot of release and just forgetting about everything is going on in your life rather to our is simple as that. >> Always awesome to hear. He’s literally one of our favorite people are out here. Every time he leaves. We say

Keith Urban us top notch. Good, good times. Great guy. And the big country stars. Just keep on coming. One of our favorites. Maren Morris spoke to Savannah and Hoda about motherhood about her music and what kept her motivated after a few failed auditions. >> And it’s so good to see you since 2019 since you’ve been here. And you went out on tour for the first time in a couple years since the summer. Is it like riding a bike? Get right back on the horse. It is. It’s it’s definitely different because I have my son with

me now. But it’s so fun. I am. I really miss everyone. I missed my band. My crew. I miss the fans. Yeah. And then I miss New York City. >> You talk about your son. He’s 2 years old. Just about to be to tell us what motherhood is like. >> I mean, I have no contacts because I don’t have one kid and I had him at the beginning of COVID. So it was just a really strange time anyways. But this is such a fun phase. He’s a toddler. He started talking a lot more now. We’re

about to start p**** training, which is going to be what’s your song, the Love? What’s the one that gets it? You know, he can’t really make requests yet. But yeah, I don’t know. Probably. I have a song on my record called Hummingbird. That’s about Hummingbird. I know the day that I found out I was pregnant. So it’s sort of like my Hays by you and let you get on a certain he’s coming out on the road with you on the tour bus. He has a little crib bunk on my bus. And yeah, he’s he’s he’s

he’s a road dog. All ready for that dog. >> There’s so many things to love about you. I don’t know. A lot of you guys probably know because you’re huge fans, but you tried out for American Idol. Is that right? Yeah. One of many shows I tried out for and didn’t get. But I mean, even even through the cattle cause, I think people get discouraged when they get to that point, they said, well, maybe I don’t have the thing. Why did you stay with it? I think you had just >> have to have a healthy

dose of self-delusion to stay in this business. And I think part of its confidence part of this delusion. But if you know that you have something I just feel like keep going in the long road, honestly pays up a lot of awful lot better. And now, you know, it’s so crazy. People audition with my songs on the show as well. So it sort of feels like justice in a way. But yeah, no, I I say keep going for your dream. Those shows are fun and they’re great. But I I’ve had friends on them. But, you

know, I feel that things worked out OK for me. Yeah, past that. So I love that. You posted your your ticket. Your mom found your American Idol ticket, but haven’t things just kind of far exceeded your dreams? Yeah, I feel like if I found that 10 years ago, while mom, why would you save the ticket to the thing I didn’t get, but now it’s really cool. I love it. >> Well, she’s got so many great songs and don’t worry, we have more mayor. And coming up, she spoke to Hoda and Jenna about her songwriting process.

You’ll hear that next. >> Merritt is out on tour. She’s got a new album. It’s called Humble Quest. >> It’s so Good to have. You know, Jen and I started off the show with we talked about music. It feels almost chemical. But when you when you hear the notes are the words you literally your eyes can well up after just just that much of a song and I picked dear hate and Jenna picked another one. The crowded table. High women. Yeah. Do you know your triggers? So when a when a song has that the thing

that, you know, it’s going to captivate. Do feel it. >> I do. I mean, I always feel like it’s in my gut. And when you say its chemical, I do think it is. I think certain vibrations hit us like bags of water. It is like minute molecular when music makes you feel instantly emotional. It really is just a noise. It’s a note that’s vibrating and hitting you in a certain way. So it really is like it’s physical. It’s chemical. It’s emotional. It’s all the things. And it’s it’s magical. Yeah. Also words, you know, words can

make a difference in your songwriting, like is epic. And that way we played 2 songs. That mean, so, you know, multiple things. Yeah, but what they really mean is like we want to a place that’s more peaceful and more beautiful like to take the songwriting process seriously. I do. And I think kind of going to the school like the Nashville School of Songwriting I had to and I still feel like the best songwriters in the world live in Nashville, Tennessee. So that’s right. Really cut my teeth and learn how to write lyrics. But yeah, it’s

storytelling like we’re modern day story tellers around the fire and that sort of thing doing it today. So lyrics. Absolutely like. Yeah. I think the first thing I hear notes and the melody and then like get obsessed and get into the actual story. But yeah, it’s all encompassing for sure. >> Could you look at who have you looked at throughout your career and a we love your career because you came through was not easy street to try out for American Idol and the cat a cattle call. They said no. Thank you. Tried out for other

shows. They said no. Thank you. But that was there. Somebody who you looked at as sort of your north star like I if I could just be kind of in that lane I haven’t made. >> Yeah, I think the sort of genre, Lis artists like, you know, Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt, even Dolly in everyone like Hills, Dolly is country icon, which she is. But she’s done, you know, islands in the stream was a box. She and then she did the trio record. But yeah, Linda, so I just think not that I consider myself in

those ranks. But those are the women that I look up to because I feel like you can’t really define what they are. They’re just them. >> And that’s what actually. But it’s true that exactly like my my daughter was like no mom, Mary and more as she just cause you your full name. It’s not a country star. She sings pop to. Yeah. Because whether teaching >> girls is that they can be whoever they are. You getting enough time? Yeah, yeah. And like I definitely feel the most at home in country music. But even country music

has been broken open so wide over the last thing, 10 years. But it feels like, yeah, it’s like not one size fits all. Yes. Just like do it makes you feel good. Write the songs that make you feel something. Let someone else figure out what they’d like to classify it as it’s not. Really. That’s the perfect play. >> Yeah. Your life changed a lot since the pandemic. You have a beautiful baby. Yeah. How has that baby sort of changed you personally professionally and always oh, my God. Look at the he’s taking. >> Idea as much

to handle it. I know. And I love having a boy is just not that I have much. Yeah. Really do love having a boy. I feel like it’s really calmed me down. Even though everyone says you get more stressed out when you have kids for me, I feel like as a songwriter as a person. It’s made me just really hone in on my perspective on things and knowing that, you know, I love what I do. I feel like I have a purpose here. But it’s just like kids make you feel really important and also so

insignificant his it’s about them not about you anymore. And it’s heightened my and that the levels, too. I know we just don’t know. And so I think as a songwriter that it’s helped me like have a bigger heart beat and to be on tour again, I read that you said like when you went back on tour that it’s the best you felt in 2 years. Yeah, and I I feel like having the most fun on this tour than they ever have because I had those 2 years to kind of strike out all the things I

don’t want to do and continue that are like Soul s******. Yeah. I was like, no, I’m just doing the things I would like to do on this on this tour album. Brilliant. Yeah. Just like the art of saying No. And I feel like it’s allowed me to say yes to a lot more like things that are concrete late in the film, my soul and, you know, kind of state run me down yet. So it’s been I’m I’m a happier I’m the happiest person. I’ve been in all of my album cycles just because I think maybe

my son and then also having just 2 years to kind of decompress might feelings after like 15 years of touring. Yes, yeah, it was good for me. Boy saying no. That’s now we’ve been talking about that. A lot of learning that you I love saying, oh, yeah. >> Stay with us because we’ve got a whole lot more country vibes to share. We’re talking about getting fancy like with Walker Hayes. Fancy like he told the 3rd hour about how it just absolutely took off on TikTok and what it’s been like touring with his family. >> Say

again is, you know, I and I can’t even tell you how many times he was not on your side car with my boys. I’m so upset. I didn’t bring them in today. Are you tired? And yet he just sing along. It’s just what was it like for you this morning to be out there? You know, here on the today show the city concert stage with all everybody’s. Yeah, it’s surreal. We have week. One of my friends played me a funny video when we played we play here 5 years ago. Nobody, you know, I’m standing outside

in the dark. Yeah. Haha. And we’re just getting started. And then of course, that that song fancy like. >> It’s changed our lives and we we we can play shows like this and people just come from everywhere. Yeah. So that was if you could be a mom on during the show. I was just thinking man life as well. >> I was going to say it is a understatement to say it’s been a breakthrough year and yeah, it’s like it just hasn’t stopped. You can do. You’re in a Tory go into this. MLB feel the dream.

Yeah, I saw have you had time to just stop and take a break with the family now just talking about tour manager. We started when fancy like pop. And we’ve just been holding on for dear life. And you know that way. My business goes you just yet. Hey was Sean. And so yeah, but the families out with us and are shown in the world and we’re just hold on tight to each other and just doing the best we can to keep. So yeah, it’s been a crazy year and we’re going to we’re going to hear

soon, right? Yeah. Yeah. They’re glad you’re here. Tour starts September. 29th first show. I believe. Is that the Greek in LA? Yeah. It’s going to be awesome. I’ve only open for people there. The family will be. There are a lot of people come to a show and if the family doesn’t dance fans alike there, why they will be there. But just to think I’m nervous, but I’m pretty sure we can sell out arenas. So that was wild man. I mean, that’s that’s in saying, you know, coming from playing restaurants and working at Costco is crazy

to to show up and just see lines of people who who want to comment saying with this. >> They are kids on stage doing the dance. You know that went viral on TikTok. Yeah. Who decided to do the whole TikTok thinks? I mean, I didn’t really I don’t know much about. >> I’m not so my manager, Marisa, she said, hey, isn’t this new social platform? Yeah. Okay. So I honestly was like dude, I just figured out. Haha, there was savvy seen, you know, she heard about a tie and she was like, yeah, I would dances

together. So that’s what we did over COVID. And this one we have now all those lining. We have no expectations with with fancy like we were just hanging. You know, that’s the way we bond. >> We’ve got to see what it’s like when all 80 or up on stage. What’s it like when all 80 or on the tour bus together? And we’re what we’re bumping into each other. We’ve got 2 dogs and they come to. Yeah, I like lesson last. Haha. >> And the bus is crazy. And I’m like I said every drawer you pull

out, hit somebody and I’m like, hey, you know, a lot of fights and there’s food everywhere. But it is chaos become accustomed to sport. And and honestly just telling the truth. When fans tonight pop about 2 months and I said I quit. I said, I said, hey, I think everybody will get paid for my for you, all’s investment. And it’s great out and because I was gone, I didn’t see them for like 2 months. And so my management, so we’ll have a list. Let’s see what it looks like. We are getting a bus and the

family come in game changer. I mean, I could do it. I can do it forever. >> You know, as long as ladies with me and the kids events, sure, they’ll be like I want to go live my own life. Yeah, you know, trying to find ways online. Hey, how much want to get paid for one? And tonight, you know, 100 100 bucks. But just I don’t know. You know, COVID is for me. You know, as I got to see what I was miss. And and so that challenge me when we got back out, I was

like, OK, I don’t miss it more. You know, it’s not worth it. So now now we’re a family band game for it. They they are. And I will. I do. I just don’t want a lot of everybody is not easy. You know, we my wife and we’ve we fight hard out there. Knows it’s a it’s a somehow she’s like do the kid thing. You know, she’s like you. You’re out. There were county some help with the kid, you know, like homework. Yeah, we have battles and then we and we apologize to get through. Best of

luck on that about the act. >> All right. We’re getting serious next. Harry’s House fans get ready. We’re going to show you our sit down with the man himself, Mister Harry Styles. things music and summer fun that we had here on the Today Show and for us and millions of other Harry’s House fans. That’s basically been I think the soundtrack to summer. We had a chance to catch up with Harry Styles Justice. He released that hit record. Take a look. >> I see on several lacks Harry. So, you know, they’ve been camping out here for

a couple of days. Thank you so much for they’re all the way. They’re there all the way back. I like to know that, you know, 05:30AM, in the morning or the night before a crowd turns out like this to watch. You sing a few songs. >> I think I mean, I I feel very lucky that throughout my career so far, but just keep being surprised by it. >> That dedication and support. Thank you so much for him to to surprise me. >> The screams and the sound track of your life. Can you believe this way?

This has all turned out. I mean, we were just showing that earlier clip of you back in 2010 with Simon cowl and introducing yourself, I’m Harry Styles. I’m 16 years old to this. >> Yeah, I think I mean, I think from that point on that, I think anything I’ve kind of had in months my life was it’s kind of done something. And I’m just and Bryce is what I feel. Incredibly lucky. Everything to us like a us. >> This point. So Harry is excited about the album coming out. Harry’s house. It’s been a journey to

put out this record. This record started off for you to be a very literal thing was an act. It was literally a stripped down into an album that you wanted to make in your best friend. Yeah, it is taken quite a few turns. Tell us a little about the making of this record. What it means to you and for people to hear tonight. >> Yeah, I think for me, you know, it is definitely the most personal record I think has made. It was definitely definitely the most intimately mate thing I’ve done so far. Most of

the pandemic and everything kind of add it to to the way it was made. It was made by a few people in a small room whether we kind of moved around the world a couple of times was very much that kind of coal group of people that work with them. It’s a it. I think it’s the most free of the self making music its most proud of and the thing that made them so. >> And it comes at midnight. So I enjoy it. >> Watching you seeing with the Lizzo with should I I love how

you said to Shun IoT way that you remember sitting with your mom singing should knifepoint in the car. Let that was kind of how you how you learned to saying what it mean to you to be on stage with her on that day. >> I think it’s just another moment where I get to, I think like everything else in those moments of that kind of, you know, numbers and all that kind of wrecked like things that come with being in the music industry. I think all of that stuff goes away. Moments like that. It’s just

the kind of moment of it’s like a single mom and I get to enjoy something. I’d love to say it was like for the crab, but it’s for me. >> And by the way, a young lady in the front row asked a question she wanted about your Lions ring. Oh, yeah, you lost. You lost it, Coachella. Yes, this little for coach and how did we get it back? >> And I think some of the friends kind of like go in touch with whoever found it in the field and >> and we managed to get a

good start to you that. >> We take a fan question. Congratulations. You know what, Harry, I think about you coming here with one direction back in the day. I grew up with us here at the Today show that you came back. >> Again and again and have given us incredible performances. And one of my favorite things about you decide that you’re such a nice guy. Is that when you came out to your solo record sign of the times. >> It was such an homage. >> To the music that you to 2 people that came before

you, David Bowie, we it’s like you did put out this kind of Poppy record that might have been expected. And all your music kind of has that feel. It feels like you’re always paying tribute to those who came before. >> You know, I think a lot of the music that I grew up on over 6 in the frames, you’ll like musical a new kind of references. I think I like a lot of different types of music. And and I think I’d say this new album is kind of the most of us in terms of the

different kinds of influences that I’ve had and people have been influenced by in my life. And I feel like it’s kind of a collection of all of my favorite things and and very much site. Yeah, I’ve always wanted to make. So I’m really happy. >> It included was fired by. >> You know the news it’s been so close to your chest has been hard to get tracks off the new record for all of your fans, scouring online Coachella. Help us here. Some of the stuff they did headlining Coachella and when those moments at Coachella really

struck me was when you did boyfriends, which the track on the record you’re going to do for us today that I just hold up. >> I didn’t do it. >> And out track on that record. Some under so vulnerable vocally. And I saw your band downstairs was like way to work. The harmonies on play front. We’re going to hear it here in a minute. But for people tumble about that song specifically. >> As a boyfriend, a road kind of tools, the end of the recording of the last album. And there’s something about it that, you

know, it’s kind of one of those we could have rushed to get ready and it just felt like there’s something special about it. And I wanted to kind of take my time that I knew they would fund as well into the it was meant to be on. >> Yeah. I love the song on. Thank you. Says he did it on coach Bela and it was good for the pin drop. I mean, we’re doing it so quiet. Really cool. >> I love your fashion. I’m sorry. I’m looking at your outfit is a 10 plus. So tell

me about what you’re thinking. What am I going to wear on the today show? Tell me about what made you choose. This was early so I wanted to be comfortable at 4. I thought sleeping back, baby grow. Going for comfort. Yeah. And I thought I could soak up some of the rain and you’re on the red carpets, though. When you step out, you step out thinking I do step out of the yeah. >> You’re acting career. >> Yes, yes. Yeah. A couple moves come at the end of this year. Yeah. The preview looking, Greg. We

did when I pop star to what is the context? Something Darla. Don’t worry. Don’t go for a jog. Pretty cool. Like a thriller. Separate wife. Kind of thing. >> Yeah, I think it’s it was it was a real pleasure to be involved in a project like that. And I think the movie is really exciting in and out. >> I can barely cope this young lady. Her question was she wants to know how your music influenced your acting has it one step. >> Yeah, I think sometimes if I’m if I’m going to, I think I’m going

to stop writing for a while and I think a tent and a bright all I think any time, you know, even if you’re pretending, if you get a chance to look at something from someone else’s perspective and that’s going to influence, you know, the way the right and want to create. I think if you feel like you’re being created in one way, it’s going to influence the so yeah, I feel really looking to get to do 2 things. I really enjoyed it. So. >> How do you like singin in the rain? I like it. >>

I can tell you is I was there. The energy on the plaza that day was absolutely insane. And Heres another one of those guys are huge, huge star these days, especially with the release that a record. So nice down to Earth. It so much fun to come here at today. All right. Don’t go away. We’re going to close it out with some of our great interviews with John that he switched off. Jack Harlow coming up and the incredible legend, Sheryl Crow. but he’s electric energy in June. And he spoke to the 3rd hour about just

how music makes people feel. >> John, that was an unbelievable performance. And what what always impresses me. No matter at what I’ve seen you perform. It is the power of positivity and joy, that seems to pervade everything you do this. >> Joy’s is hard to come by. And I believe that it should be celebrated when you have it and it should be share. And that’s it. The performance is a way for people to connect to light in a very dark time to connect to joy. And I love that. It is such a a calling for

me in and I love to give to the people and serve the people in that way. >> Your energy is just unbelievable. We all look at you and say, I mean every second. So you talk about your data lot and motivation and your family. Is that where you get your when you wake up in the morning? I’m going to do this in Congress today. >> I believe we have such a great opportunity being alive and even when it’s the the lowest moments is a beautiful thing to just have the ability to wake up and do

something. You feel like you’ve got to get out of it. I feel that that’s such a great opportunity. I don’t want to waste. >> And that’s it. The husband and father start the summer. >> I always call my mom my dad, my my grandfather. I’m blessed to have him. He was with me at the Grammys. Why years old? Yes. And I call him. And I just listen to him tell stories I call my dad. We talk almost every day and I just listened to the stories because, you know, they’ll say stuff and think that it’s

something that I know. Yeah, but it will be a an incredible story line. We went to the studio with Isaac Hayes and he just came in because he was hanging out. And as I wait was, you know, to tell stories and is an amazing thing to to learn your all any is unknown heritage. So that’s what Father’s Day really symbolizes for me. What? >> Go ahead. And I was just at the best advice he’s ever given you. >> Tell the truth. Be yourself. We believe in God is a high-powered. So don’t get too caught up

on the small stuff. >> Yeah, in listening to your music there is it feels a lot like we’re in church it but that, you know, the the most joyful parts of face. Is that guide you? >> Absolutely. It’s is it important and the most important guiding force in my life because I think that the best way to love people to know that you are divine, you are special be everybody’s special. 8 billion people in the world. Everybody especially unique. That’s why all people have something to say. Something of value to give this world. And if

you got July from that place, it makes decisions. A lot clear. It’s not easier. But it makes things very clear when I get on stage is almost it’s a utopia will because it’s it’s all of the best things in life that you can bring to bear. Even the even the sadness, even the the wistful feelings, a great. And this is an incredible place to to be able to calm a sacred space. This stage is a sacred space in these people on my my people, these are my family. >> There you go back this on. You’re

going to get a little later cry. >> I mean, there there’s some mournful part of that. But then you still join. Absolutely. I think you have to have the doc is to come to the light. You have to have the that the lows to reach the peak sun life. Yes. And and you got to appreciate a good low point in your life. Always that I always say that does important. Appreciate a good low point in your life. >> What’s next? How do you follow up album of the year? >> Has keep on creating. Keep on

doing your thing from a place of purity in love and, you know, figure out how to be the best you can at the craft work on the craft every day of my life. And and that’s it. You know, if you keep doing that, putting in the work, I believe good things happen. Last time you were here, you talked every wanted to stop by what they hear that time. So maybe now with a little move. Can you love? All you got to do is the easy thing you can do. You just but you heal out and

then come back and put that one 0st parties. Yeah, it’s tricky. >> Because, you know, but I have to do what >> Will Johnson credible? We know that. So let’s turn now. We’ll take a turn. Will get into another genre of music. One of Rap’s biggest stars, young stars at that Jack Harlow. So Jack spent some time with us recently and he told us Whats Poppin in his life and his career. >> Thanks for having me. And you are the pride of Louisville, Kentucky. >> How does it feel to be in this moment on the

stage and just a few 1000 of you? >> Closest friends was telling you, I was nervous because sometimes we do these TV moments. You know how good than just going to be. But luckily, I had some real ones pull up to >> I have a great time. Plus, you always bring the energy yourself anywhere with things I love about your story is that you would be without mom. Who’s your mom? Who introduce you to the genre of hip-hop? How did that happen? That come to date? >> I mean, I got to credit her taste. She

grew up listening to it. She grew up going to show. So when I was digging through my parents CD collection, a lot of the hip-hop the she was collecting was what I was hearing. So she listen to it. >> Okay. As Trump called Quest. Okay. Okay. >> And then you’re making mix tapes which I just love because I thought that was like an 80’s thing that you are bringing it back. >> I guess only say it’s a tease, but yeah, it’s rocking. What’s next for Jack? What have you not done yet that you still want

to do? What’s the next mountain to climb? What a question. There’s a lot of things out when that dream of doing the Super Bowl halftime. So there’s a lot of pages. >> You just spoke to says. >> By the way, about making it to you as well. Understand your white men can’t jump the really right, right, okay. >> All right. You’re going to be what we’re all right. That’s right. Outside your ball as the rolling off. Haha you ball and then you’ve got to see. >> We’re seeing a meteoric rise for him. It’s been fun

to watch. That’s Jack Harlow and now we have a terrific grand finale for you. It is the one only Sheryl Crow to share some details on a very revealing documentary all about her life. Plus, she previewed some of her latest news. >> More than 50 million records sold 9 Grammys to her name, Sheryl Crow. >> It’s a music icon. Yeah. She’s a fixture in this industry for 4 decades. She delights audiences with hand after hit after hit Nash, the focus of a new documentary appropriately titled Cheryl. It is an intimate portrait of her life and

her career. The highs, the lows, everything in between and show. We’re so happy to be with you. You are just at such a light. We were just saying it’s so easy to be around. You like the easiest, nicest, most down to Earth legend I’ve ever met. Have a documentary. I mean that that’s exciting. I’m sure it’s flattering, but also kind of scary. Yeah, it’s kind of terrifying. I mean, especially now because of people to come out to I mean, the most unexpected people come up and say, I watch your back man. >> And, you know,

you kind of are laying it all out. All the good stuff. And all of the >> heavy snow was the most difficult part to reveal that there was a lot of 7 era talked about. I mean, there there have been some deaths along the way, and that have really affected me. And certainly John O’Brien stem from leaving Las Vegas. And, you know, my battle with the real low lows and having to go get help. And, yeah, I mean, it’s it’s all in there. And actually, to be honest, it was really liberating finally just talking about

it because people think you have like all I want to do you every morning road in your update, your happy all the time and soak up the sun. But, you know, ultimately it’s your deep cuts that tell the story. >> Snow still write music. You still can use a boys are teenagers. >> I can’t. I can’t. I was even par. I don’t know. I mean its own on their play list. >> Morgan Wallen and life. >> You know, I don’t know if I’m on the ice so that their missions to try. They’re both very musical,

but I have one that’s really into sports and one that’s really into nature. And I just constant tell them. >> You know, music will, you know, help you remember all the eras of your life that find your passion and and go toward that. And that brings joy. You know, I’ve never let my kids being specially in fact, they don’t have social media. I mean, mom and I could feel like we’re in the 18 70’s. Yeah, but there in the documentary and I finished the documentary with a song that was that was really inspired by a

conversation about teenager about what it feels like to be Tess stress. You know, they’re living through a pandemic. They’re worried about their planet. They’re worried about going to school and not being safe with guns in all. And I didn’t have that stress and that the song is really to remind all of us that every moment is a gift and we have to stay in that moment. Don’t be distracted with the phone in between you and your loved ones. And, >> you know, make the most of every moment. So I love you heard us talking with

Carson about this Woodstock, 99, which everyone’s talking about. Yeah. IX documentary. Yeah. You were there. You know, I guess. Yeah. Awfulness Wednesday. Like that’s something people are talking about. And again, you see in the documentary. >> Yeah, you know, it’s funny. The first Woodstock was monumental in my life and has a inspiration for me. I was at the second Woodstock which totally change the trajectory my career in 1996. And then this one I think was a perfect illustration of how how ugly I’m hungry can be. The whole thing was set up, you know, trying to

make money. And it really played into a lot of fear and just a bad, a bad energy. And we still we know it’s like they said, an HBO documentary tying it to the January 6th and the anger and unrest. When you get a mob, it certainly exacerbates it. >> I’ve been lucky enough to have a front row seat to Cheryl’s career. We go way back. So it’s always great to hear from her. That’s going to do it. How about that? It was so much fun. We do that again. Our pop star plus, best of summer

music special comes to a close. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did so next time. Thanks for watching. So long >> It’s all of our today and 30 friends watching today all day on that and even better kicking off a long holiday weekend. >> We have things off to an early start in a fun start this morning with an amazing concert for Brandi Carlile. We’ll hear from her. >> In just a bit. But we are going to start with a closer look at what you’re going to face of the airport if you’re

flying over this Labor Day weekend. Tom Costello has us covered. >> Plus, we’re previewing Serena Williams State match at the U.S. Open TONIGHT. She returns to the court with hopes of extending her magical ride. All that. >> Plus a blockbuster deal. Have you heard that movie theaters all over the country are selling tickets this weekend for just 3. >> Dollars. Joe Fryer has all the details on that coming up. Sounds good in from the sentiments of the stories. We have all the info on the best Labor Day sales you need to know about. It’s all

coming up right now on today and 30. >> Dylan is ready with that holiday forecast. But we’re going to start with NBC’s Tom Costello because Tom, he’s going behind the scenes with the FAA as they try to manage this weekend surge airports. Tom, good morning to you. >> Craig, here we go. 12 and a half million people traveling over this extended Labor Day period by air. That’s about 2 and a half million per day. And you’re absolutely right. This is the airlines last chance to really prove that they are improving and they have, but they’ve

gotten a lot of bad grades earlier in the summer, some decent some a**. So now they are on the rebound, they say, and they’re trying to prove to the country that, in fact, they can handle the loads going forward. In the meantime, as you mentioned, an awful lot of Americans hitting the roads and they’re leaving right about now. >> It’s a busy holiday weekend capping off a chaotic summer for millions traveling across the country. A 3rd of Americans expected to take to the roads and skies this Labor Day weekend. Most will be driving. Finally getting

some good news at the pump. Gas now averaging 3.82 a gallon down $0.40 in a month, but millions will also be going through airports after a summer of travel misery. When Swett taken with your take on what time reference to work at the FAA command center in Virginia. They’re in high gear tracking every plane moving across the country, coordinating commercial flights, private planes, rescue and military operations. Now after a summer of travel misery for millions of passengers, FAA managers are focused on keeping the airspace moving through this weekend and into the fall, especially in Florida

where air traffic control centers were understaffed and unprepared for the surge in visitors this year. What lessons have you learned here at the FAA from the last 6, 8, months or so? >> We have to make sure we have the right people in the right place. And we’ve done that this year with making sure the controllers are now added to that the Jacksonville staffing. >> That passenger flood into Florida expected to continue through the winter and next spring, the busiest travel day so far this year May 19th nearly 51,000 flights. Right now they’re averaging about

47,000 or so. The biggest potential to structure this weekend as always, the weather FAA meteorologist Roland Nunez. >> These are where the disturbances art, and they’re actually moving across this one particular cause going across Oklahoma and went over towards the Florida area. >> Meanwhile, a 12 of the country’s busiest airports, Atlanta to Chicago, Detroit to LAX. The nation’s biggest pilots union continues an off-duty Pickett, not a strike. They are in contract talks and they want more money and an end to the record. Over time they worked as airlines have struggled with a shortage of pilots.

>> And tried to schedules back in place that are pre the pandemic low flying. But you know how the pilots and flight crews train to do so. >> Delta says the union’s goal is to gain leverage at the negotiating table. >> So, Tom, let’s go from the skies to the roads here. As you mentioned, they’re going to be a lot of cars on the road this weekend. Give us some tips to try and beat the traffic. >> So keep in mind, we’re talking about more than 100 million people traveling in some form over the next

few days. Leave early if you can leave as soon as the today show’s over, not before leave this morning. And if you can, if you’re going to wait until tomorrow, the early tomorrow, the other tips might involve effect. If you’re going to be driving on Labor Day itself, you want to leave if you can before 04:00PM or after 10:00PM and then try to program the GPS. Listen, this is one of those things I always forget when I get in the car, look for those opportunities to avoid road closures or heavy construction or whatever. And that

I’m in the jam and my wife says you didn’t program the GPS. I know your rights try to program the GPS early to avoid those obstacles. If you can still save you time, guys. >> Transportation correspondent in getting grief from his wife. I love very, very relay double. Tom Costello town. Thank you, sir. >> I all right. When it comes to flying in the holiday, of course, the weather is a major factor out west. A dangerous heat wave is gripping the region. Tens of millions of people are under heat warnings from the Pacific Northwest to

California. Triple digit temperatures in some areas running 10 to 25 degrees above average. It’s putting a strain on the power grid and fueling new wildfires. >> Let’s check in with Dylan who’s in for out and has a first look at the holiday weekend weather. Good morning. Good morning, guys. And that heat out West is going to stick around through at least Tuesday. So this is a long duration event. Did this this area of high pressure that’s just allowing all this warm air to slide in from the south and not only is it a long duration

event. It’s an expansive event. Look at all of these record breaking temperatures we’re expecting this weekend from California, Washington all the way into the Western Plains, including Montana and Wyoming were looking to break high temperatures in areas like Salt Lake City, a high of 99 degrees or break the record of 98 close to record in Las Vegas. But you head out to Grand Junction. 99 for forecast. 98 is the old record. So we are going to see these temperatures not only break high temperature records for the day, but also perhaps the month of September. The

warmest it’s ever been in September in Sacramento is one. 0, 9, we’re forecasting a high of one. 0, 9, on Monday. Same goes for areas like Salt Lake City. It’s only ever got up to 100 degrees in September. We’re forecasting well above that all the way through the upcoming weekend. Now temperatures across the country elsewhere look pretty nice, especially on Saturday. Some 70’s back through the Upper Midwest and Northern Plains, beautiful in the northeast. Although that flood watch still continues down through Texas into Louisiana on Sunday. Still looking for more wet weather along the Gulf

Coast. The interior northeast will see some late day showers. The western half of the country still seeing lots of sunshine and the record heat out west and then on Labor Day itself, time just recommended traveling on Labor Day. But along that I-95 corridor looks like we could see some pockets of heavy rain possible. So does a pretty unsettled as we go into Monday. >> That’s more to get to here, including the next launch window inching closer for NASA’s inaugural Artemis One Moon mission. In fact, take a live look here. The Kennedy Space Center. As of

right now, it’s a go for tomorrow after those technical issues forced Monday’s attempt to be scrubbed. NBC’s Jacob Ward is here with the very latest. Jake, let’s start with what happened on Monday. Yeah. What more do we know about what caused that mission to get paused in and how confident are they? >> That they are going to be able to launch tomorrow? Well, NASA engineers essentially identified 2 problems. One was a possible hydrogen leak. And the other was the fact that the engines which run on highs, you know, simply weren’t staying as cool as they

thought they needed to. It turned out in the end, they were actually function perfectly. It was just that a sensor was broken. And so they say they’ve now got both of these things resolved. Now, the question is whether, of course, the projection at this point is that about the the possibility scattered thunderstorms across the state may make it roughly a 60% chance of going up. But they think that they have the technical problem solved and that’s what they were most worried about. So the with that said that what’s the plan and timeline going forward if

they have to scrub it again? Well, I you know what I’m Priscilla starting earlier about, you know, running for the airport, you know, right off the judicial. That’s what I’m doing to get down the storm really hoping it goes forward to if it does get scrubbed, they need then a 72 hour window before they try again. That’s the rule. And so it couldn’t happen again before Tuesday. That would be the next window at it. Then its September 19th, if that doesn’t work and the end of this launch window is early October. So they don’t get

out of here by October. We’re going to hold off. >> So this rocket, as we know, it’s been under a lot of scrutiny over budget long-delayed right to take place. This is high stakes for the folks at NASA right now. If it’s not able that they’re not able to go ahead with this. >> What kind of a setback is that for NASA get all the private enterprise in this industry? Well, Peter, I mean, I think the real setback that now it will be worried about is us here not talking about whether or scrubs or the

rest of the talking about something bigger edge of something went wrong with this rock. I mean, you have to keep my reviews. Rocket engines. Where did they go from 0 to 17,000 miles an hour in 8 and a half seconds. They are just a big can of go and you don’t want anything going wrong with it. You also have to think you talk about budgets and delays and I agree with all of that. But you also think about the ambitions of this. We’re talking about putting people back on the moon, a whole new part of

the we’ve never been to before. You could conceivably get there and find water. You could then use that 100 to fuel a new set of rockets that would go from space station going around the moon on to Mars at this point, I think NASA’s pretty happy to be just sitting here talking about the weather, talk about scrubs in order to keep their eyes on. This long-term goal puts it in perspective, the >> The top tennis player, Serena Williams with 2 so willing with the U.S. Open already. I know about this week’s he is just a
