Cowboy 4 ST Review – The Tesla of Electric Bikes!
hey what’s going on people hope you guys are doing good today we’re going to be talking about this this is the cowboy 4st it’s a fantastic beautiful bike and it’s an electric bike and it very well might be the best electric bike that i have ever tested and i’m no stranger to electric writables such as the boosted board or other skateboards scooters hoverboards things like that and i can’t wait to tell you about my experience with this bike such a smooth bike all right so first things first let’s break down the name of this bike
cowboy is the manufacturer they’re a belgium-based company that specializes in high-end bicycles four is the fourth iteration of this bike and it features a new powertrain and fifty percent more torque versus the c3 model it also has a brand new cockpit which features a quad lock system and wireless charging the st and the name of the bike stands for step through so if you notice there’s no bar right here so that means you can easily just step through the bike making it easy to get on and off when it comes to the unboxing experience everything
comes in a very large box it’s almost like a refrigerator style box it’s very well packaged you shouldn’t have any issue finding any parts manuals or other items that
cowboy kickstand it’s going to cost you like an extra 30 bucks but it’s totally worth it all right so now let’s talk about the design of this bike first and foremost just look at the aesthetics there’s a reason why it won the 2021 red dot best of the best design award it’s beautiful in terms of color options you can get it in the black that you see here which is one of my personal favorite color options i just love the matte black look you can also get a desert sand color which looks beautiful and then
also comes in like a military green in terms of the aesthetics of this bike i have to say it’s very minimalistic because you can’t really find any screws other than the ones around here on the handlebars but outside of that you can’t even really see where they have bonded the parts together it just looks very minimal it’s almost futuristic because i’ve never seen a bike that looks like this especially when you combine it with the headlight on the front it kind of looks like a rivien headlight looks really cool and then on the back we
have a tail light which once again resembles almost like a rivian tail light it just looks very modern like i said you won’t find any random screws or holes or ports on this bike everything is very well thought out this also includes the cable management these are the only two cables you’re going to find on this bike and they neatly tuck into the front here and they go all the way down and everything is nice and tidy i love it in terms of adjustability you do get some maybe not as much as some of the
other bikes on the market but plenty in order to accommodate to your size so you can raise the seat you can lower the seat you can slide it back and forth and you do get some give in the handlebars but nothing extreme it can accommodate riders from five foot three all the way up to six foot three me being six foot one and around 220 pounds solid muscle that’s a lot i can easily ride this thing i could easily pick up this bike but it’s not because of how strong i am is because of how
lightweight it is so even if you’re 130 with spaghetti arms you’ll be able to lift this no problem while i love the design of this bike i do have to mention that it is very proprietary this means that a lot of the parts and pieces are specific to this brand and this model of bike now this has a good side and a bad side the bad side being that when it comes to third-party accessories there just aren’t as many so if you need a part you might find it difficult to locate that part the good
side is you’re getting a completely custom built bike this means more thought and time goes into each bike being made it holds production to higher standards rather than making a swiss army knife bike which may offer easier repairability but also may need to be repaired much more frequently not to mention most bikes like this are nowhere near as gorgeous as the c4 st the only parts that are not custom made are a gates belt drive a cell royal saddle and sun race hydraulic disc brakes now let’s talk about usability and this is my favorite aspect
of this bike the very first thing you’re going to want to do before you get started is make sure the battery is in the bike and make sure that it’s charged you can check the status of the battery with the led indicators right here on the quad lock system it’ll let you know exactly where the battery stands if the battery is fully charged then you’re ready to go if it needs to be charged you need to remove the battery and then charge it using the included charger to get the most out of this bike you
need three things you need a smartphone you need a quad lock case for your phone and you need to download the cowboy app which is available on ios and android from there you just take your phone and you lock it into the cockpit using the quad lock case like so now the cockpit becomes a wireless charger for your phone to keep it charged then you can launch the cowboy app and you have your maps you have different settings for your bike and you have a lot of fine-tuned controls inside the app that make it really
useful we’ll talk about that in just a little bit i really love this cockpit design and i like how the phone faces you while you ride the bike my only complaint is if you live in florida or areas where it’s super bright maybe like arizona and you’re trying to bike during the day you’re more than likely not going to make out anything on your screen just because of how glarey and how bright it is outside now if you live in a city and it’s like you’re really shaded you should be just fine also that bright
sun especially in hot areas will overheat your phone when it comes to riding the bike it’s a single speed bike with pedal assist up to 20 miles per hour what’s unique about this bike is you won’t find any gauges or dials or buttons for levels of assist and you won’t find it in the app either this keeps the app clean and simple to use and the bike design nice sleek and modern and i really like that now since this bike only has one level of assist that level needs to be very good and very capable
to get you from point a to point b in case you’re running late or if you’re just tired and you need some assistance and i’m happy to tell you that this bike has very responsive acceleration and very high torque now when it comes to the amount of power this bike offers the torque the acceleration all that good stuff i’m five foot nine around 165 pounds and in florida i haven’t had any issues with inclines now keep that in mind i’m in florida so we don’t have a lot of high hills or anything like that it’s
pretty much like you see here now if you live in somewhere like san francisco or even some places in new york where you have very steep inclines you might possibly run into issues i really don’t think so i just don’t have any experience going up steep inclines with this bike so when it comes to the ride on this bike it’s actually really smooth it’s not an off-road bike but this is still really comfortable and it comes down to a few different things first and foremost the seat is super comfortable and the suspension in the seat
adds for like a nice ride it’s also belt driven or it has a rubber chain which smooths out the ride and then the weight has a lot to do with it it’s a lightweight bike but more importantly the weight distribution is perfect that gives you a nice smooth pleasureful ride like going down this hill was perfect and now that i’m back on the concrete the custom tires really just smooth everything out so when it comes to these custom tires i haven’t had a flat or a blowout or needed to replace a tire but i’m assuming
that you could probably find replacements to this tire in your local bike shop so i don’t think the customization of this tire interferes with the repair ability whatsoever i think it’s more or less the way they designed it to give you extra comfort and padding to smooth out that ride now one thing i want to mention about these tires is the valve stem just to make sure that you’re aware this valve stem is much much different than i was used to so um that definitely threw me off it’s still a common valve stem so if
you’re a biker this is probably nothing new to you but for me i just wasn’t expecting it and i wasn’t prepared you could tell i was huffy raised so when it comes to the brakes i have to say they’re really good like you could stop on a dime you do have to use both in order to skid like i just did they’re very sensitive which might be a negative for some people because you can literally stop with just like one finger um but i don’t have a problem with that so in terms of breaks i
think that they’re great i think most people are not going to be disappointed and i also love the rubber grip on the handlebars like this makes riding the bike super comfortable so when it comes to range cowboy advertises around 43 and a half miles give or take i really don’t have the exact number of the range that i was able to achieve because i use my bike off and on i don’t use it every single day speaking of the app it’s actually really intuitive and it offers a plethora of features so as soon as you
open it up you’re greeted with the map of your current location from here you can tap on the search symbol in the top left and type in like an address so it acts as a navigation or gps to get you from point a to point b you can add specific locations like your work or your home address and then on the bottom you have like a little arrow if you tap that you can see recent routes that you’ve taken you can see any available updates or upgrades for your bike so right now i have a
current update so i need to update my bike you also have your weather forecast the amount of battery you have remaining the air quality rating so right now it’s saying it’s very good ride safely and enjoy some fresh air and then i can tap on the arrow on the bottom and it’ll take me all the way back up next to the map tab we have some stats this shows you how much you have rode your bike in the past few days so in the last 30 days i’ve ridden 14.2 miles it shows you how many
rides i have average speed moving time a lap speed a total duration calories burned and co2 saved which is really nice and then under recent activities again these are all the maps that i have recently taken then we have our groups which i have not joined any groups but if you want to to become more social you can you could also check out this week’s leaderboard or this month’s leaderboard in the all-time leaderboard we have different achievements that can be unlocked the more you ride your bike it’s just a really intuitive and engaging and interactive
way of riding your bike you might notice on the map screen there’s like a little lock button if i press and hold my bike is now unlocked so from here i can re-lock it i can check out the current speed so if it was docked on the cockpit on my bike i could check out the speed that i’m going i can tap on the settings cog wheel and from here i can turn on and off the lights i can turn on and off the assistance which is the pedal assist and then i can turn on
and off the phone charger so if i want to save some battery i can toggle everything off or if i’m riding at night i can turn on the lights so pretty cool and useful stuff right here and easy to access that’s what i love about the app next to our stats and information we have our settings so we’ll bust into those so you can see i still have that update available for my bike you can see i named my bike flying nimbus so you can go inside the app and rename your bike to whatever you
want then i have access to my account down here i have my battery level percentage as well as predictive range i have auto unlock so as soon as i get close to my bike and then i put my phone on the cockpit it will automatically unlock i have auto unlock time crash detection so this is really cool if i were to ride my bike and all of a sudden i go down it will alert an emergency contact and let that contact know that i have fallen and it does a lot of stuff like the lights
start blinking i have different questions that pop up to let my emergency contact know that i’m okay and the cowboy themselves will even contact me so it’s really nice to see all of that built into this app and built into the bike so you’re not only buying a bike you’re buying into an ecosystem that you know wants to be there for you which is really nice we have led brightness so you can adjust it from bright to dim and then there’s where you can rename your bike so you can see mine is flying nimbus under
advanced we have all of our settings and information on our bike at the very bottom we have cowboy care so if you have the money you can upgrade to cowboy care which is 20 bucks a month and it includes a ton of stuff next to the settings there’s one more tab which is like a circle with a question mark and from here you can book a service in case there’s something going on with your bike and you need to get it repaired or maintenanced if your bike gets stolen or misplaced you can go to find
my bike because it does have gps built into it which is really nice you have explore help center which is kind of like the faq section you have chat with us so you can immediately go online and chat with the cowboy rep if you need to say you have a couple questions whether it’s a purchase question or just a question about your bike you can immediately go on and start talking to them and you can view any service appointments that you have what the app really reminds me of is the tesla app i would say
if tesla made a bicycle this is it this is like the tesla of electric bikes and i really like it all right so there you go that was a look at the cowboy 4 or c4 st i really like this bike it is a fantastic bike but it’s also a very expensive bike this thing comes in at almost 3 000 bucks or just under 3 000 and if you look at that compared to other electric bikes it is pretty high especially if you’re looking for a bike that has fully electric capabilities and not just pedal
assist you can get one anywhere between 1200 all the way up to 2000 bucks which is significantly cheaper now if you’re more of an exercise enthusiast and you like to go for traditional bike rides that’s where this bike really shines being able to put it on a bike rack on the back of your car and lift it because of how light it is and still have all the electric capabilities and pedal assist is really nice plus their customer support is top notch and overall it’s just a beautiful beautiful bike that’s very comfortable to ride even
though yes this is an expensive bike that price could be justifiable depending on what you want in a bike and what’s important to you like do you see value in this personally for me yes it is very expensive but i think it’s a great bike i could see why this bike is so much due to the customer support the app support the fact that it gets over-the-air firmware updates how light it is how beautiful it is and how comfortable it is to ride this bike has actually made me ride more and i really appreciate that
