iPhone 15 & iPhone 15 Plus review – ¿Valen la pena sobre los iPhone 14 Pro?

It’s been two weeks since the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro went on sale. Enough time to have tested them and draw quite interesting conclusions. Last Monday we published the review of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max and today is the turn of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Are they worth it? Are they a more recommended option than the 14 Pro models from a year ago? All this and much more I will tell you in the next few minutes. Come on, let’s get started! Let’s start this review talking about the design. The

iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have new shades of color with a matte finish textured on the rear glass, which was exclusive to the Pro range and that now we can also enjoy in these new models. We have 5 options to choose from, blue, pink, green, yellow and black. During these days I have tried blue and pink and I must say that they look very elegant. It was not very supportive of these contrasting tones, but hey, after seeing them in person I have to say that they win a lot. Another change we see in the design

is found on the edges of the iPhone. These are not titanium but aluminum, but they have also been redesigned, being more contoured

and making them feel even better in the hand. This is ideal if you are one of those users who like to carry the iPhone without a case. And be careful because in relation to this, I must tell you that the aluminum frame of these iPhone 15 has a fairly clear advantage compared to that of the iPhone 15 Pro, and they are the fingerprints. If you use these iPhone without a case, you will not

have many headaches with dirt because the frames are also painted with that matte tone of the rear glass, so they repel much better any trace of dirt that may remain on the phone. In short, I particularly like the design of the iPhone 15 much more in its set than that of the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro from a year ago. I think that Apple, without revolutionizing either, because it has not revolutionized, has made a great advance in this section. Let’s talk now about the screen, which has a fairly obvious change in this generation and it

is the dynamic island that is no longer exclusive to the Pro models. With it we can visualize from anywhere in the system alerts and activities that are being updated in real time, being able to quickly access the controls so that we can, for example, change songs, pause a timer or visualize with much more detail that information that is being supplied to us. We can visualize up to two activities at the same time and it makes a region totally wasted so far of something more practical or at least more informative. At first, I must admit that

I did not get much out of my iPhone 14 Pro Max, but with the passage of time, third-party apps were updated and some known as Globo, Uber and many other well -known already show us information in them making it … well, that I have used it a lot more. The XDR screen maintains the same sizes as the models of a year ago, that is, 6.1 inches on the iPhone 15 and 6.7 on the iPhone 15 Plus. However, it has some improvements. The maximum brightness of HDR now reaches 1600 nits, like the iPhone 15 Pro. This

brightness allows true blacks to obtain rich details in dark areas of photos and videos. With the native support for Dolby Vision, the videos we play on this screen, HDR videos, will look amazing. I have tried to play some Apple TV Plus titles on it and the truth is that the quality is hardly improvable. Also now the screen has a maximum brightness for exteriors of up to 2000 nits. In situations of a lot of light, when the screen is not using all its pixels, the iPhone smartly increases the brightness of the brightest pixels. This is ideal

especially for those situations where you are in a place with a lot of sun and you need to check your email, read some news or whatever. In any case, not everything could be good. We still do not have the ProMotion technology that allows refresh rates of up to 120 Hz, nor with the Pantera technology always active. Something partly logical, since if not, the differences with the Pro range would be very scarce. Personally, I miss the ProMotion technology that the screen always activates, especially when I have gone from the 15 Pro Max to the iPhone 15

Plus to prepare this analysis. In short, the 60 Hz of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are noticeable when you navigate through the different screens or you scroll within applications. It also poses a disadvantage in some games like Call of Duty, where a higher screen speed can help to achieve better results. And also, let’s not forget, it is a very expensive phone and nowadays, paying for what we pay for a smartphone of these characteristics and not enjoying a screen that is better than 60 Hz, well, it makes that the less you have to highlight it,

highlight it and criticize it, of course. As for the screen function always active, well, personally, I do not think it is an absence that you are going to miss a lot if you buy these iPhones. I decided to deactivate it on my iPhone 14 Pro and well, also on the 15 Pro I have it deactivated. I do not consider that it provides any utility when using the iPhone and also consumes a lot of battery, so, well, its absence in this iPhone, well, I do not consider it dramatic. We want to take this moment to recommend

you the cases of our sponsor, Rhinoseal. Their cases are recognized worldwide for their extreme protection against impacts and being fully customizable with a wide variety of colors and styles for all tastes. When buying yours, you can configure its design and even add a print with which they collaborate such as Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, NDA, Harry Potter, One Piece and many more that you can consult on their website. And if you prefer, you can use the configurator that they have on their website to make the case to your liking with your own photos or stickers. They

have three types of case. The solid suite, which has a premium finish capable of absorbing impacts at more than 3 .5 meters high, so if you are looking for a resistant and elegant case, this model is a great option. The clear, which personally is my favorite, also very resistant and transparent to be able to shine the color of your iPhone. It is also resistant to yellowing that this type of cases suffer with the passage of time. And the NX mod, which has interchangeable rear plates, which makes it customizable to adapt to your mood. Rhinoseal cases

have versions compatible with MagSafe to be able to charge the iPhone with this technology or use magnetic accessories for the car or wherever. And beware, because all their cases have lifetime warranty, so if you break the one you buy, you can order a new one. In the description we leave the link to the Rhinoseal store. Take a look because they also sell many more accessories and ship worldwide. In addition, if you use our link and at the time of making the purchase add the code MANZANA23, you will get a 15% discount. It’s time to talk

about the cameras. The section that has improved the most in this year’s models and that can be decisive for many people to choose to buy these models and not the iPhone 14 Pro from a year ago. Both have a main camera, which is now 48 megapixels with f1.6 aperture and an ultra wide angle of 12 megapixels with f2.4 aperture. The main camera of these iPhone 15 and 15 Plus is also a little brighter than that of the iPhone 15 Pro, but the ultra wide angle is somewhat darker. The results that we can achieve with both

are very good. During these days I have been carrying the iPhone 15 with the 15 Pro Max while preparing both reviews and thus go shooting photos with both models. And I can assure you that it is very difficult for me to find the differences when we shoot in x1 or in x0.5. The work of the Photonic Engine now allows us to retain more color and detail when we use the night mode and thus be able to achieve better results when we shoot photos in dark And the smart HDR allows you to capture a greater dynamic

range, making the subject and the background visible with the right color and tones. During these days, the truth is that it has pleasantly surprised me. In this new generation, Apple has introduced an exclusive functionality in the main camera. Thanks to the 48-megapixel sensor and the work of the processor, it is now possible to take 24-megapixel photos in a predetermined way. This means that you can get twice the resolution without any delay between photo and photo and without a significant increase in the size of the images. To do this, the iPhone combines 12-megapixel photos in low

and medium light conditions with 12-megapixel photos in high light conditions. Then, through the Diffusion technology, it achieves a wider dynamic range in the images without losing details of the 48-megapixel sensor. From the camera app settings, we can choose the photo capture mode in case we prefer to continue shooting in 12-megapixels as before, and we can also activate the resolution control, which activates in the camera app interface the possibility of choosing the HEIF MAX format, which will disperse 48-megapixel photos in case we want results at the highest possible resolution. Personally, I advise you to shoot with

this function deactivated and use it only in very particular cases, since the size of the images will be greater and there is also something more delay between photo and photo due to the need to process higher resolution. And since I’m talking about the camera app itself, if you look, now we have three possible focal distances of optical quality, by 0.5, by 1 and by 2. Thanks to the 48-megapixel sensor, and as happened with the iPhone 14 Pro, when using the 12 central megapixels of the new sensor, the iPhone offers a 2x telephoto lens of optical

quality for photos and videos at a focal distance of 52mm. In addition, it does so taking advantage of exactly the same features of the main camera, including the f1.6 aperture and optical stabilization. This allows, in quotation marks, to limit one of the main differences with respect to the Pro range, which was the absence of a telephoto camera. It is true that, let’s see, it has nothing to do with respect, for example, to the 5x of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but if we compare it with the 3x of the 15 Pro or even the 3x

of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, hey, the difference in focal distance is not so much and also the result is brighter because it benefits from the technical characteristics of the main camera. Obviously, the 14 Pro and 15 Pro models also have the ability to shoot in this mode, however, what I mean by this is that for those who did not consider that a 3x telephoto lens was enough reason to buy a Pro model, this year there are even fewer reasons to do so. In fact, more than one is surely worth considering the purchase

of the iPhone 15 instead of the 14 Pro. You would have a 2x lens that can do the job and that is not far from the 3x of the Pro, you would have 24 megapixel photos by default, and also with the improvements that have been incorporated this year in the HDR and in the operation of the Photonic Engine. Now, if you are going to use the iPhone camera for professional or semi-professional work, you may be interested in shooting in the ProRAW format for a better exterior edition and this is only exclusive to the Pro range.

Also, if you like macro photography, it would be convenient to buy a Pro model, since the normal range does not allow you to shoot photos in this mode. Another novelty of the iPhone 15 is the Portrait mode, which now activates automatically to capture the depth map when it detects that we are photographing a person, a dog or a cat. It will notify us with the icon of an F in the lower corner and the good thing about this function is that we can shoot the normal photo without worrying about depth control and then, calmly, we

can adjust it if we wish. Also, now you will see better the portraits due to the work of the Photonic Engine, which now helps increasing the level of detail, color and dynamic range. In addition, now there is much greater precision with the hair of the people and when we shoot with the camera by one, we can get photos of 24 megapixels. And I do not forget about the TrueDepth camera, the selfie camera. Come on, so that we understand each other, it is the same as the one from a year ago, but it gets all the

benefits at the level of computational photography that I have told you so far. That is, the portraits look better and now we can turn each selfie into a portrait later, adjusting the desired depth in editing. And we will also get the improvements in night mode and in HDR, making the photos have a better dynamic range. As for video recording, there are no improvements compared to the iPhone 14 from a year ago. They support 4K video recording of up to 60 frames per second, 4K cinema mode at 30 and action mode. In this range we do

not have the possibility of recording in ProRes format, which makes perfect sense since I do not see it as something negative, because this is exclusive to the Pro models and whoever wants to record in this format would go directly to a Pro model. Processor Let’s go to the processor, which is the A16 Bionic chip, the same one that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max have. A processor with an incredible performance that allows these iPhone 15 to run any game from the App Store catalogue without taking off their hair, and well, practically everything you put

in front of it. In addition, unlike the A17 Pro, this one has not had any temperature problem during all the tests that we have been doing with them, and only the day we configure it for the first time is when we notice the heating, but hey, it’s something logical because it always happens with all phones, not just this year. The A16 Bionic, you know, has 6 CPU cores and 5 GPU cores, which optimize the work of the iPhone so that it consumes the least possible battery at all times. And we go with an important point,

the issue of autonomy. Let’s see, it is still early to draw very deep conclusions, but the truth is that the autonomy I have had with the iPhone 15 Plus has been quite positive, quite good. I have not been using the normal model as a main team, I have not had days to try it as a main team, so I was switching to the iPhone 15 Plus from the Pro Max, and the truth is that it has even given me the feeling more than one day to have more autonomy in the iPhone 15 Plus than even

in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Channels like MrWho’sDevice, I already told you in the review of the other day, have already made a great comparison where they test the autonomy of the different models and come to the same conclusion. To date, it seems that the iPhone that gets the best records is the iPhone 15 Plus, which, beware, should not be like that, because if we go to the Apple website and compare the estimated autonomy between the 15 Plus and the 15 Pro Max, the Pro model should give better performance. In short, with the iPhone 15

Plus you arrive comfortably at the end of the day, and with the iPhone 15, depending on the intensity of use and the apps we use, we should not have problems either. We will not go as left out as with the Plus, but it fulfills what is important. We move on to the connectivity section. These new iPhones have the new second-generation wide-band chip, which will allow us to obtain precise directions and distances when we look for other friends with an iPhone 15. From the search app we will have access to the same interface that we have

available when we look for an AirTag. However, the most outstanding novelty in this section is found at the bottom. These iPhone 15, like the 15 Pro, remove the lightning port to welcome the USB-C. A great news, since now we can use the same USB-C cable to charge many more devices. In addition, in a moment of trouble, we will be able to use this connector and our iPhone to be able to give energy to other accessories, such as AirPods or Apple Watch. Another improvement that we can enjoy in these iPhone 15 thanks to the new connector

is the possibility of being able to send video up to 4K 60 frames per second, Dolby Vision, to an external screen. So, if you want, for example, to play your favorite games on the screen of your computer or on a television, taking advantage of how well everything moves, you can also do it. Or, for example, another quite practical use can be when you go on vacation and you want to watch on the TV of the hotel, or apartment, or wherever, a series that you have on your phone. Well, nothing, you just take the cable, connect

it to the TV and that’s it. Now, yes, not everything is pink. Unlike the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, the normal range uses the USB 2 protocol, with speeds of up to 480 Mbps. This is very bad, Apple, very bad. I say it because these speeds are the same as we would have if they had kept the Lightning That is, they have not taken advantage of the change to this new connector to improve file transfer speeds. Therefore, the day you have to transfer many photos and videos to your computer by cable, you will not

notice any improvement. I know they are not a revolution, but I already made a reflection precisely a week ago, that today you can ask any brand for a revolution like the ones that existed before, a giant leap between generation and generation, because no one does it anymore. Surely those of us who have been in Apple for a long time are annoyed that Apple makes such small leaps and increases prices more and more. But what do you think? The one who has been buying Samsung phones all his life is not going through the same thing? Or

phones from another brand? The same thing is happening. Even in those cases, prices are rising. And beware, because it does not apply to the iPhones of this year. Prices have been maintained, even in some models they have fallen. The one who wants to buy, for example, the highest specification model, that is, the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, well, perfect, it will go directly to these, logically. But of course, during these days, for example, there are many people who tell me, are these iPhone 15 really worth it? Or especially having, for example, an iPhone 14

Pro or an iPhone 14 and such? Of course not. In other words, it is not worth taking a leap from one year to the next, because the evolutions are minimal, unless you have the money and you feel like it. Of course. In the end, I believe that the leap between iPhone and iPhone today is around 2-3 years. That is a bit of the renewal, I think, in which it can really be worth it. Maybe if you have an iPhone 12, an iPhone 13, maybe going to the iPhone 15 can be a good leap, but coming

from the iPhone 14, clearly not. Now, there is a big question. People who do not have the iPhone 14, maybe they do not have the iPhone 13 either, and they tell me, hey Fer, what do I do? Do I buy this iPhone 15 or 15 Plus or do I go to the Pro? And what do you want me to tell you? This year I think the iPhone 15 is worth it for several reasons. You will enjoy the improvements in computational a 2x optical zoom that can make up for you in everyday use, a much more

attractive and comfortable design to hold in hand, USB-C connection, the same processor as the Pro models from a year ago, and in the 15 Plus even a better autonomy. The only clear disadvantage I see is the absence of ProMotion technology, but if that is not important to you, I would not think about it much, especially because these iPhone 15 are still cheaper than the iPhone 14 Pro. On the web I will leave you the link to the Catwin website, where you will be able to buy the iPhone 15 of 128 GB for € 959 and

the iPhone 15 Plus for € 1,109. In addition, they will give you 3 months of Apple services when you do it, so I advise you not to miss the opportunity if you are interested in any. Anyway, as I understand that there may still be doubts, now in the final screen that will come out in a few seconds, I will leave you the video that we uploaded on Tuesday last week, in which Fabian gives us a master class to know how to choose the ideal iPhone and tells us which are the most recommended at the moment,

once the entire full bed of this year has already Really, I’m sure it will clear up many doubts. For my part, this is all. Thanks for getting to the end. Like the video if you liked it, subscribe for more, and see you very soon with more content in the bitten apple, because I am Fernando and I promise to do it. Ciao!
