The most advanced models of the new generation, which, despite not having revolutionized, have aroused more expectation than the iPhones of a year ago, thanks to some additions that we are going to analyze in this video. Let’s talk about the design of these new iPhones, which present some remarkable differences compared to the previous generation. First of all, the titanium edges replace stainless steel, which not only gives them an elegant look, but also makes them more comfortable to hold in the
hand thanks to its contour. In addition, the screen bezels are thinner, which has allowed Apple to reduce the size of the device by a few millimeters without compromising the size of the screen. The silent switch is no longer there and now we have a programmable action button that will allow us to quickly execute different actions of the system. Also, and as I was saying, these iPhones benefit from some improvements in the software and image processing. For example, now all the photos that we shoot with the main camera in its three possible focal distances will have a default resolution of 24 megapixels, something that is also possible in the normal iPhone 15 and leads me to wonder why Apple does not allow it in the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max that equip the same chip. Another
novelty is that now the Photonic Engine that Apple uses to improve its photos also works in night mode and portrait mode. This combines the best pixels of a high-resolution image with another optimized to capture light, allowing even better results in complicated conditions. The Smart HDR has also improved, offering us a better dynamic range that is especially noticeable in those photos with natural light where the sun is hitting hard. And now portrait mode is activated automatically to capture the depth map when it detects that we are photographing a person, a dog or a cat. The good
thing about this function is that we can take the normal photo without worrying about depth control and then we can calmly adjust it if we wish. During these days I have been taking a lot of photos with these new iPhones and I must say that the results are very good. I will be giving you some examples shot at different focal distances during these days, although I must say that the one I liked the most with a lot of difference is the X5 of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Not only does it give a very good
look to the photos, but it is also quite bright for what is customary to see in this type of lenses. I was watching several videos of American channels that have compared this iPhone with the S23 Ultra, for example, and the result is at least striking. However, yes, let’s see, the iPhone gets lost if we talk about the maximum zoom range. The photos we shoot with the main camera have twice the resolution than before by default that we can adjust from the camera app settings along with the type of format we want to use when we
want to get 48 megapixel photos. In videos I also used this telephoto lens that I have been telling you about and the truth is that it was great for these recordings that I did in the Apple Store in Sol at a considerable distance. In addition, you can appreciate the great stabilization it has because I did all these recordings by hand. And now look at this video that I have recorded with the iPhone 15 Pro Max using the X5 lens and the action mode. A X5 lens that is very well stabilized, but if you add the
action mode, well, look, the preview seemed a disaster, but then the result is the milk. It is true, yes, I know, because I also put it on Twitter, that the result I am putting on you does not have a dove on top. Well, the video I recorded with the dove is this, which, as you can see, had a lower frame rate and for this video I preferred to use a higher frame rate like this where the frame was better. But as you can see, the result was just as good. I mean, great. For my taste,
the X5 is better than the X3 of the iPhone 15 Pro, so in my case, this would make me sing for the iPhone 15 Pro Max in terms of cameras. And look, I don’t want to say that the X3 is bad, not at all, but it is true that the difference that the X5 gives you is greater when you are making the step between different cameras. I don’t know, to me at least, it gives me greater versatility in terms of focal lengths. Now, many will think, and the improvements are noticeable in the processing of the
images with respect to the iPhone 14 Pro. Well, the truth is that yes. Let’s see, not a lot, but yes. For example, in this photo that you will be seeing, the iPhone 14 Pro Max burned much more the left side of my face compared to the photo taken with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Here I am showing you another example that I did in the Apple Store in Sol, in which, well, you can see how I knew how to manage the direct light that was giving me a lot. As for the portrait mode, it is
appreciated that the Photonic Engine intervenes to achieve results as good as the ones I will be showing you, with a great level of detail, color and also brightness. I also like that it captures the depth map by default when we shoot a photo with the main lens. The indicator that this is doing it is that F that you will see in the lower corner. And now I will also be showing you some examples of night photography so that you can see the results and that, well, in general, they are quite decent. It is not the
type of photography that I have done the most during these days, but, well, at a given moment, if you need to do it, well, here you are seeing it. It is complicated in a general review to go much deeper because, well, this would be more appropriate than a thorough analysis of the cameras, which is on its way, Fabian is going to do it. still the same as the previous generation, that is, it maintains 12 megapixels with an aperture f1.9. The results that we can get with this are quite decent and the conditions accompany as you can see in these photos. As for video recording, we have the same formats that we have so far, Cinema mode 4K at 30 frames per second, Action mode and ProRes video recording in 4K at 30 frames per second if we have the iPhone of at least 256 GB of storage. Although thanks to USB-C, if we connect an external storage, we can record in
this ProRes format in 4K at 60 frames per second. In addition, in the settings we can choose the LOG format so that when we record in this mode we can have greater flexibility when editing the colors. A17 Pro chip, the first Apple processor manufactured in a 3nm process and of which I must admit that I expected a better performance, especially in terms of efficiency. Apple in its presentation stated that the new A17 Pro chip offers an increase of up to 10% in CPU speed compared to last year’s A16 and an increase of up to 20% in GPU speed. And it is important to emphasize the until, because the tests that we have done effectively confirm that the difference is almost inappreciable with respect to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, at least in everyday
use. If we do a test with the Gbench app, the result in my iPhone 15 Pro Max has been 2,893 points in single-core and 6,914 points in multi-core. If we compare it with the points I got on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, we actually see an improvement, but it is nothing of the other world despite having an architecture in theory much more powerful and efficient. Using the same app, I also did a test to see the score in the GPU test and this was 27,357 points. In this image you are seeing, you can see what
position it is compared to other Apple processors, clearly ahead of the other iPhones but behind the M1 and M2 iPads. However, this A17 Pro chip introduces several new features that are worth commenting, especially for the gaming approach that Apple has wanted to give to this iPhone. It has support for MetalFX upscaling to be able to play games in high resolutions without performance problems. It also uses the ray tracing by hardware acceleration that quadruples the speed with respect to the software-based ray tracing. Therefore, games that use this technology will move better on this iPhone. That is
why console games with latest generation graphics such as Resident Evil Village or Resident Evil 4 Remake will be announced soon. There are some users who have already been able to try them and recognize that they move very well. Regarding the processor, I have several things to comment. On a daily basis, the performance is exceptional for any task and I have nothing to complain about. Although, I must say that in the first days I was using the iPhone, which was when I put more force into it, it warmed up relatively easily, affecting both its performance and
its autonomy. There are Chinese channels that have been doing very demanding tests of the processor and have concluded that this model has a significant drop in performance relatively soon, since it does not control the temperature very well. I did a test on the 3DMark app that consists of a 20-minute test moving high-resolution graphics and you can see how there is a big difference between the results obtained with Loop 1 compared to the last one, the 20. There is an obvious jitter that I understand can be fixed with some software update that covers the maximum performance
peaks that this processor could reach and thus make the temperature not rise more than necessary. But of course, it’s a chore. I insist that for everyday use, which we do practically most users, it is not something that should worry us because I insist that the temperature is quite controlled at all times and it really only shows when you start playing with high-performance But of course, this is where games would come in and taking into account the approach that Apple has wanted to make with this iPhone, well, I’m afraid. Especially because if we play very high-level
games, such as Resident Evil, it is predictable that the performance ends up being jittery as soon as the phone temperature starts to rise and, of course, it is not capable of controlling itself. During these days, I have tried the typical games that I usually go to when I have a dead time in my day and I feel like playing something on my iPhone, such as Call of Duty Mobile. And the truth is that after a long session, the phone heats up a little but its performance is not jittery, so I understand that it will be
more noticeable in those games where practically the maximum power of the chip is required. And I said at the beginning of this block that I expected more with respect to the energy efficiency of this chip precisely because I have not noticed that plus in terms of autonomy with respect to the iPhone from a year ago. It was expected that this architecture not only meant a considerable increase in performance, but also a better energy efficiency. According to Apple itself, the autonomy of these does not differ with respect to that of the iPhone 14 Pro. The battery
of my iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is the one I have been using the most during these days, seems to have improved a little with respect to the model from a year ago, at least in everyday use. However, if we squeeze the processor with applications or games that take it to its maximum performance, the energy consumption is higher than with respect to the 16 Bionic, so there we could see that the battery has worse records. Precisely the Chinese user to whom I referred with respect to the performance tests, did a test to measure the autonomy
in different models and it was possible to check how the new iPhones are behind the models that use the A16 Bionic. Of course, asking the processor the maximum power. Then there are other content creators like Mr. Who’s The Boss who did an autonomy test between several iPhones and the iPhone 15 Pro Max was the second with better results behind the iPhone 15 Plus, so as I say, the results can vary to a large extent depending on the type of apps we use at each time. two new adjustments in these new iPhones. The first is within the battery health section and allows us to limit the charge to 80% even if we have the iPhone connected to a charger all the time. This is possible thanks to a new controller that they have incorporated in these models. In terms of connectivity, these iPhones have support for WiFi 6E, which will allow better performance
when we connect to networks of this type, Bluetooth 5.3 and, as I said at the beginning, the long-awaited USB type C. I particularly celebrate that they have taken the step to this new connector, not only for the convenience that it is to be able to use a cable to be able to charge all your devices, but also for the improvement in file transfer speeds when we connect the iPhone to a computer. Precisely, these models support speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second, although, yes, to reach these high speeds we would need the corresponding Thunderbolt
cable. Also with this connector we can give energy to other devices such as AirPods, Apple Watch or even other iPhones, in case we need to give a little energy to our friend’s cell phone, for example. Another advantage that I want to highlight about this connector is the possibility of being able to connect it to monitors or television to duplicate the screen to be able to enjoy games as I showed you in my first impressions video. However, the possibilities will be marked by each user depending on what they need when they connect the phone to the
screen. Well, and time for my conclusions. Let’s see, obviously, these two iPhones are some great phones, but I don’t think they have made enough of a leap to be recommended if you already have some of the iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max. We have reached a point in the smartphone industry where practically no company makes a considerable leap compared to the model of the previous year and Apple is no exception. In the end, the users who renew our phone every year are not the target audience that Apple addresses every year. The renewal cycle of
an iPhone is usually about 3 or 4 years in most cases. And obviously, for the users who are in that situation, the change to these new models will mean a great improvement compared to what they had. And be careful, because what I’m telling you is not only applied to Apple. All phone brands are taking very small steps every year, so the renewal cycle of all smartphones is getting longer and longer. Among the two models, this year I am undoubtedly with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Not only for the advantages it already has compared to the
smaller model, such as a larger screen and better autonomy, but also for the new telephoto camera that I really loved. Finally, I also want to make a comment about the price. Fortunately, all the rumors about a price increase were not fulfilled and we have some iPhone 15 Pro with quite interesting prices compared to its direct competitors. Mainly because at a time when all manufacturers are raising their prices, Apple has lowered them.
