Samsung Z Fold 4 – Unboxing, Setup and Review (4K 60)

hi everyone Aaron here for zollotech and this is the samsung galaxy z fold 4. this is the latest flagship from samsung so i thought we’d unbox it take a look at it set it up and talk about what’s new now you can see i also have the case with it the standing cover with pen so we’ll take a look at that a little bit later and this was also included free when i pre-ordered it i’ll leave a link to this as it’s an affiliate link but also there’s some great deals with it i think they

give you up to 200 credit and some great trade-ins for it so if you’re interested i’ll leave that link below i was able to get the samsung galaxy watch 5 pro fairly reasonably with that so i think that’s a good deal overall and i bought this myself and now this comes in at 1 799 dollars and goes up to 2159 dollars it ranges from 256 to 512 to one terabyte options this year the one terabyte is new and it’s non upgradable just like every year it comes in gray green this is phantom black and beige

and burgundy now let’s go ahead and unbox it so we’ll set the case aside for now let’s flip it over and take a look so you’ll see here

it just says what it contains in the package and let’s go ahead and open it up for the first time so we’ll get my unboxing knife here cut the seal there we go the other one on the bottom cut that and let’s set that aside and open up the box now we don’t get a charger in it this year it’s too thin for that so i’ll leave a

link to some if you want to check it out this isn’t a sponsored video so if you need a charger i’ll leave a link to the anchor chargers in the description of course you could get samsung’s chargers as well now let’s go ahead and open this up so we’ll take the top off here we have a little packet here it looks like it’s just got an opening for your cameras see what’s in here and then we’ll take a look at the hardware itself so inside we’ve got a little sim card removal tool we’ve got our

usbc to usbc cable so just what you would expect there and then a little quick start guide and terms and conditions so just basically everything you’d expect not a whole lot and for that very expensive price you don’t get a charger strangely i wish they’d include that again so here’s the phone itself so we’ll take this out of here nothing else here looks like that’s it for the box so let’s put this back on and set that aside now let’s go ahead and take a look at the phone so it looks very familiar of course

it’s a little bit different but let’s go ahead and take the cover off and there we go so now the cover is removed we can take a closer look at it now i thought we’d talk about what’s new in a moment but let’s take a look at this hinge as it’s supposed to be new that’s one of the first things and it’s definitely seems to hold a little bit better in position that you would expect so it feels a little bit stiffer than before if you’ve ever used maybe a z fold 3 or z fold

2 it still clamps shut once you bring it all the way closed but definitely feels a little bit different and they’ve improved it this year so there’s that and it’s really light this time around it’s fairly light that’s one of the other things that’s new about it so it’s shorter thinner and lighter but also stronger according to samsung so it has a new aspect ratio on the front display and just the overall size is a little bit better so as far as weight it’s 263 grams measures 155.1 by 130.1 by 6.3 millimeters so the fold

3 was 271 grams this is 263 so it’s a little bit lighter also it has gorilla glass victus plus on the back and front cover that’s something that’s new it keeps its ipx8 certified rating up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes now let’s take a look around the outside edge so it’s very familiar as what we had before we have a sim card tray here and we do have some support for additional sim cards so what we have is up to two nano sims and an e sim at once so it will carry that let’s

go ahead and open it up and so the availability can vary depending on where you live so if we pop out the sim card tray you can see this is what we have for the z fold four looks like we just basically have one here but again it can vary depending on where you live on the outside edge of course we have our volume button we’ve got our power sleep wake button that also acts as a fingerprint reader and above the volume button we have our millimeter wave antenna for 5g if we go around the

bottom here you’ll see that we have our usbc and then also a microphone and a speaker of course there’s the hinge here and then on the other side we have what looks like three separate microphones so two on one side one on the other and then another speaker so pretty similar to what we had before now internally we do have an upgraded processor this year the snapdragon 8 plus gen 1 with 12 gigs of ram we also have the same battery we did before so we have a 4 400 milliamp hour battery but because of

that processor it should be a little bit more efficient we also have fast charging 2.0 up to 25 watts wired 15 watts wireless and 0 to 50 percent in 30 minutes according to samsung so pretty good overall now as far as a quick size comparison before we talk about additional specs i thought we’d take a look at that and you’ll see here i have an s22 ultra and if i bring it in side by side you’ll see that the s22 is maybe a centimeter taller or so or a half an inch or so taller than

the new z-fold 4. also it’s pretty thin so basically one side of the s22 ultra is about as thick as one side of the z-fold four so you can see that there and then of course you have the camera bump sticking out just a little bit so that’s about what you can expect there and then as far as the overall width it’s definitely narrower than what we have with an s22 ultra so that gives you an idea of overall size and then of course compared to maybe the z fold three and i do plan to

do a video on the z fold four and or the z flip four rather you can see here next to the z flip three it looks a little bit shorter of course and this has a case on it but it’s about the same thickness with a case so that gives you an override overall idea of size compared to both of these devices now let’s go ahead and take a look at the cameras a little bit as this is an upgrade as well this year so when it comes to the cameras we do have an upgraded

main camera at the top though we have a 12 megapixel f 2.2 ultra wide then we have a new 50 megapixel f 1.8 wide angle and then a 10 megapixel f 2.4 telephoto now up to three times or 3x so it’s a little bit of an improvement there basically the ultra wide is very similar to the previous generation but with that 50 megapixel camera we can now record an 8k as well and it has pixel binning so it should improve some of the overall quality so that’s something that’s different in this particular version when it

comes to the camera on the front or the cover rather it’s a 4k 30 10 megapixel f 2.2 camera of course the camera inside we’ll take a closer look at in a moment but the camera here you can see that’s still the 4 megapixel camera so it’s an f 1.8 it’s not something i’d probably use regularly maybe for a phone call or something like that now let’s go ahead and turn it on here give it just a moment we’ll talk about the display and then we’ll get it set up so hopefully it has some sort

of charge holding the button down there we go and you’ll see you can see the crease just a little bit there so with the screen completely black and just the word samsung galaxy on it it’s a little bit reflective it does have a better adhesion this time around so the underlying coating shouldn’t come across or come away from the screen protector rather and there you go you’ll see it’s an oled so it should look pretty good and there you go so this particular display is a 7.6 inch 2176 by 1812 pixels at 374 pixels per

inch it’s hdr 10 plus certified so looks great it did on the previous display and then the external display see if that’s on there we go this display is a 6.2 inch display 2316 by 904 with 402 pixels per inch we have 120 hertz display on the outside and inside display and this time around it’s a little bit different aspect ratio so same sort of dimensions but aspect ratios have been changed just to make the display on the outside widened a little bit you can see it’s already picked up quite a few fingerprints as well

now let’s go ahead and open it up we’ll get it set up and take a quick look around the os so we’ll go ahead and hit start then it says for your review we have to sort of agree to terms of service and then we’ll go ahead and hit agree you don’t have to agree to everything we’ll add a wi-fi network so now it’s searching for esim mobile plan since i don’t actually have a sim card in here i’ll skip this for now but we can continue that later maybe if i add my sim card

in here so now it’s asking if i want to copy apps and data and as i set it on this table it definitely sort of moves on the table as you press the corner you press the bottom right corner it wobbles on the table so you may want to consider a case for that reason so i’m going to copy some data i’ll copy it over from the s22 ultra see if we can get it set up the same way we’ll hit next we can use our old device and then it’s saying updating smart switch so

it’s going to update the software we’re going to use the software on the s22 and bring everything over so we’ll plug in the z fold 4 then we’ll plug in the s22 and on the s22 we’ll select smart switch and we’ll get everything moved over so we’ll give it just a moment now during this process i had to put in my google account and then we’ll go ahead and put in the fingerprint so we’ll go ahead and hit continue and we’ll also put in a pin for that we’ll go ahead and scan our fingerprint or

thumb print in this case and these thumbprint sensors work pretty well usually i’ve really had no issues with them on the fold series so they seem to work pretty well and are very responsive every time i’ve tried to set them up or just use them so we’ll hit next and we’ll continue with setup and transfer so it’s asking if i want to use google assistant i do so we’ll go ahead and hit i agree he wants to know if i want to unlock it with my voice and we’ll get our phone ready then you sign

into your samsung account you can turn any of these off if you want then agree and then it’s telling you how to take care of your phone the same thing is true as before where you don’t want to press any sharp objects on the display don’t use your fingernail it’s water resistant up to ipx8 but still it says don’t immerse it in water so it says you’re all set up go ahead and finish and it’s still transferring to the phone as well now everything transferred and is set up and the back is a little bit

warm which i would expect that’s pretty typical of these devices especially when you’re processing a lot of data and moving everything over and this is actually based on android 12 l and you can see it says android 12. the l version is basically for folding phones and tablets and it’s running one ui version 4.1.1 now this will get five years of security updates so that’s always nice that samsung’s doing that now and the software is really nice in that it has a little toolbar at the bottom now so you’ll see it’s asking me my default

i’ll use chrome for now and as you can see we have a little toolbar so maybe we want to bring in something else we can bring in settings on the bottom and maybe we want to bring on the bring in the camera over here we can open it up in the bottom right so you have all of this customization you can save this information as well as far as dock layouts and more so it’s nice to have that anytime you go into a different app it’ll switch of course you have your little app switcher or

picker here and it’s nice to just be able to easily resize and move things around now also of course we have that outside display which i definitely think is a better aspect ratio this time around before i wasn’t a huge fan of it as it seemed very narrow but now it seems a lot more comfortable and compared to maybe the s22 ultra it’s definitely narrower but it’s definitely easier to reach across the side of it so this will be better for a lot of people now if we open this back up we’ll go in here

and you’ll see here that was pretty quick let’s just lock it unlocks nice and quick and if we go into the camera this is an improvement this year we’ll go into the settings of course you have all of your scene optimizers and more but if we go over to video under video you’ll see we have settings for 8k at 24 frames per second we’ll just move in the box here we have 4k at 60 frames per second so you’ve got all of those options to choose from if you want to do that and we should

have a much better camera this year under photo of course we have an updated zoom camera up to three times so if we just zoom in here that’s pretty close so that’s nice and close with a telephoto zoom lens and that’s an improvement over the 2x of last year now as far as apps that were installed i went in here and there was facebook i was able to uninstall that so you can do that if you want to and then of course it carried over my games and more now the speakers do have dolby atmos

so i thought i’d have you hear those see what they’re like we’ll go into one of my videos so here’s a video comparing the s22 ultra with the 13 pro max that i made and a camera comparison so take a listen to this the speakers sound pretty good they have a nice stereo sound to them so if you’re watching content that’s great and they do go fairly loud although they do muffle a little bit at the highest volumes now let’s go ahead and take a look at this standing cover with pen so you can see

here it is let’s see how we get into this if we can peel this back or use the unboxing knife again and then we’ll take a look at the s pen as well since it’s in here there we are and let’s see what we’ve got in here now i did use one of these before and like i said this was included free with this particular device so when i pre-ordered it it just came with it for free it auto i’d automatically added it to the actual cart itself so see if i can get these out

of here so the s pen is in a little pouch so as you can see here it’s sort of a little plastic pouch that it’s in let’s see if i can remove it that’s a little bit difficult to get out of there so there we are and it’s the s pen you would expect so basically with your little button here and the tip that comes with it so that’s it for that and then of course there’s some instructions on how to apply this case so we’ll stick the case on of course we’ve got some extra

pen tips here and the little removal tool if you want to replace those and it does have some adhesive with it so as you can see there’s some adhesive where this will go around and there’s a back piece as well so this will stick on well let’s check it out so it sticks on like this and then the front piece will have adhesive where it sticks on the front so i’m not sure i want to use this all the time maybe i will but that gives you an idea and then of course we have a

little piece we can pull up in the back which makes it a stand so if you want to use it as a stand like that or i don’t know that i’d want to use it like that regularly but you can and it leaves everything open as well as the cameras says samsung on it and i don’t know that i want it to be honest with on the front of the camera i might want it but i do like phones without any cases although this is an awfully expensive phone to be using without a case now

let’s go ahead and take a look at the s pen there should be no setup involved and it’s just working and of course we have different notes apps and more so let’s go ahead and go into those there should be a sound here as well when i write so we’ll go in and let’s just write a note so let me move the microphone so you can hear this so it basically feels the exact same as the previous generation to write on you do feel the bump just a little bit as you bring the pen across

it but it’s the same for the most part and as you can see we have the other notes app here we could bring that into the side give it split screen maybe bring in youtube to the bottom if we wanted to and it’s very easy to just move your apps around much easier than it was before so see if it’ll let us switch between these there we go and now we have the full youtube app on the right where we could continue drawing on the left so this is really nice i’ll be using it for

a while and if you want me to do a full review i’d love to hear from you in the comments below now every time a folding phone comes out i like to try it out as it’s sort of the next thing that a lot of people seem to like i’ve never been a huge fan and find myself going back to candy bar style phones or just slab phones such as the s22 however i’m willing to continue to try it out and see if it just gets better and better i do use a tablet regularly when

i’m not editing video and having this menu at the bottom is definitely something i think will be very helpful overall i did notice some flicker on the outside display you can actually see that in the video here so maybe it’s at a very low pwm rate that would tend to bother my eyes as i’m fairly affected by that but i don’t recognize that at all on the inner display so that’s something i’ll have to see if it bothers me over the next few days now if you have any other questions or comments about this phone

i’d love to hear from you in the comments below and of course i’ll link these wallpapers in the description like i normally do if you haven’t subscribed already though please subscribe and if you enjoyed the video please give it a like as always thanks for watching this is Aaron i’ll see you next time
