After the Whistle: DLB looking to make return trip to state

over to DLBto talk to the boys Laker’s squad abou their journey back to the state championship..com The Decs Lacs Burlington Lakers are a year ago making it to the state finals. The Lakers have found themselves in tougher division this year but have seem to adapt despite many changes from a year ago. Chris Brown” This year we knew we were going to be a lot smaller than we were last year graduating a lot of height and we actually graduated an all-state all region player so a lot of our offensive points went away so it’s kind of

interesting to see who’s going to step up. A new look DLB Lakers squad are continuing to make more improvements as the season proceeds. Despite not having height or a main scorer, the DLB Lakers have seemed to gel quite well with one another playing 100 percent team basketball. Coach mentality of getting better every single day. I feel like if we can do that by the end of the year, you’re at the point where you’re playing your best basketball by March you’re going to be there. Despite not having one leading scorer, Coach Brown does possess something a

little more special. Leadership Coach Brown” The three seniors got Ty Hughes, Paxton Ystass, Braylon Fisher like I said here and they’ve been starting since they’ve been sophomores

with me and they helped bought in and every single day they bring their best. They expect that out of others too they set the bar high and the other’s follow it. This years DLB Laker team seem to have an unbreakable bond that can’t be broken. One senior on the Lakers tells us a small part about the secret sauce that this team has Ty Hughes” This group of guys I’ve

been playing with sice pre school so Braylon, Paxton, Mewe’ve been on travel team since we were little and the juniors I’ve know since middle school so it’s just a great thing to have with a team like this. Despite this tight knitted senior trio it’s not all about them. They are a group that wants younger guys to take control and to succeed on the court. Senior Guards Braylon Fisher and Paxton Ystaas says that the younger guys will be prepared and ready to play come game time. Braylon Fisher” Defiantly in practice they get reps against us so

we go as hard as we can vs them so to help translate to a real game situation” Paxton Ystaas” Defiantly try to bring u their confidence try to build shooters make people build confidence in shooting come leaders is a big thing. Each one teach one seems to be the motto for the Lakers this season. A great motto to have which evolved something special on this team. Trust. Coach Brown” Well, they really are just a great group of kids and they like playing with each other kind of know where they’re going to be and aren’t afraid

to make that extra pass so I think that makes pretty hard to guard. Hard to guard is correct. Players on this team says what they’ve lost a season ago may have helped propelled them this year. Ty Hughes says that they possess a skill that can’t be coached. Speed. Ty Hughes” I think small baller fits us better because we got fast guys and they make the best plays in fastbreak and having big guys is nice to rebound but I think we’re doing a good job on rebounds so far”. In a journey to get back to state,

this is a Laker team that just loves the game of basketball. They are a selfless group of kids that does whatever it takes for one another. Despite getting off to a good start, this Laker team could care less about that. The only thing on their mind is getting better and to prove all the doubters wrong. Brayon Fisher” We started the season off good but there’s always stuff to work on always stuff to practice on so if we just keep that mindset we’re a good team and we’re just going to keep pushing that. Paxton Ystaas” Just

to see how far we go see all of the stuff we’ve overcome not many people thought we were going to be in this position as last year but I like our chances against everybody I like how fast and how good we’re going to be playing in March. The Lakers are set to resume action Tuesday night in Stanley. Tip Off is set around 7:00pm. We have more After the Whistle
