Jurgen Klopp's 8 Most Memorable Moments in Charge of Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp: Most Memorable Moments in Charge of Liverpool The minute news of Jürgen Klopp’s departure hit, it felt like the football world stood still. Liverpool fans were absolutely devastated and some even said it felt like losing a family member. Not only Liverpool fans but fans of the beautiful game all took a moment to reflect on an all time great. When he came, he called himself the normal one, but normal is the farthest word we can use to describe his tenure as Reds boss. Here are the most memorable moments of Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool boss. We

start off with what would be the first of many trophies that he would lift as boss, the Champions League. The game may not have been the most dramatic, the drama had all been used up in the semi finals but the moment cannot be understated. After being seen as someone who doesn’t win finals and having lost the same game a season ago, many people were waiting for Liverpool and Klopp to fail once again. Instead the Reds dug deep and won the final against Tottenham 2-0 with goals from Salah and Origi. Seeing how emotional the German got

afterwards touched every fan in the land and proved to be just the beginning of what would become Liverpool’s most successful period in the modern era. We cannot mention

that Champions League win without remembering how they got there. The game that exemplifies his time at Liverpool and is probably his greatest moment as manager, is the comeback against Barcelona. Trailing 3-0 on aggregate, many people didn’t think a comeback would be on the cards facing a red hot Barcelona team with Messi and Suarez. To make matters worse, they were also missing Salah and Firmino. A game at Anfield

though has always been a different affair and they made life hell for the Spanish giants. Origi’s early finish stoked belief in the home crowd before Gini Wijnaldum came off the bench at half-time and grabbed a brace. Trent Alexander-Arnold famously took a quick corner to set up Origi for his second, outshining returning Reds Coutinho and Luis Suarez. One of the greatest moments in the club’s history. Back in 2016, there were signs that Liverpool were indeed capable of comebacks under Klopp and it happened against his former club Dortmund. Trailing 3-1 on the night and 4-2 on aggregate

early in the second half of the Europa League quarter final, they needed 3 goals in thirty minutes to go through. Dortmund would come to learn something that many clubs have since, Liverpool at Anfield are a whole different animal. Coutinho rammed one in from distance before Mamadou Sakho headed in. An unlikely hero then stepped up as Dejan Lovren planted James Milner’s cross into the back of the net, sparking sheer delirium at Anfield and misery for Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel. Klopp’s side would go all the way to the final but lose to serial winners Sevilla but that

comeback will surely live on. Another moment that cannot be understated was when Klopp ended a 30 year drought for the Reds, winning the Premier League title during the 2019/20 season. After having come so close the season before but losing by a single point, Liverpool refused to let that happen again. They would win the league with 99 points, one off the centurion record from City while also being 18 points ahead of their fiercest rivals. The title meant so much to the fans and city and ensured the German would go down in history forever. The only downside

was that due to the pandemic, there were no fans in attendance at the stadium but the win was still celebrated by fans outside for weeks afterwards. The reds currently sit first in the league and there would be no better send off for Klopp than winning another league title. Beating a rival is always a good moment for a club but absolutely destroying them is unparalleled satisfaction. This is exactly what Klopp, Liverpool players and fans experienced last year when they handed Manchester United a 7-0 defeat at Anfield. The red devils were in good form under their rookie

manager Ten Hag while Liverpool seemed to be free falling during a terrible season. Many United fans felt that was the season they would finally beat the Reds’ at their home but how wrong they were. Braces from Gakpo, Nunez and Salah put United back in their place with Firmino rounding up the most enjoyable night of football for Liverpool fans that season. Another meeting with rivals is next and this one was very close to home. In 2018, Liverpool faced Everton at Anfield in a game that seemed destined to end in a goalless draw. No one knew what

was about to come as in the 96th minute, a wayward attempt from Van Dijk hit the upper side of the woodwork and bounced awkwardly allowing Divock Origi to head home the winner. Klopp, overcome by emotion, took off running onto the pitch to everyone’s amazement and embraced the only player within his reach – goalkeeper Alisson. He leapt into the Brazilian arms in a perfect illustration of the strength of his feeling and emotion for the game – and his love for the club he manages. In the 2021/22 season, Liverpool were on a record breaking run and played

every single game that they could. In total, they played 63 out of 63 games by reaching the final of every tournament they were part of that season. They lost out on the Premier League by a point and they were beaten by familiar foes Real Madrid in the Champions League but they were able to collect the domestic double in games both against Chelsea. They won the Carabao cup first in a penalty shootout where Kelleher scored the winner and in the FA Cup, it was Kostas Tsimikas’ turn. Despite losing out on the bigger trophies and rivals fans

making fun, it cannot be understated what Liverpool achieved that season. They were only two results away from completing the quadruple, something that had never even been thought possible in English football. Finally we have the game that began to establish a new rivalry in English football. We could not finish this list without including one of the legendary games they have had against Manchester City. Talk of Man City becoming the new invincibles was rampant as they had not yet lost a game when they came up against Klopp’s men at Anfield. Many believed City would beat them once

again especially since Liverpool had lost 5-0 in the reverse fixture. The Reds were at their very best as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fired them into the lead before a second-half blitz from Salah, Mane and Firmino effectively ended the game with them up 4-1. City rallied late as full-time approached but it wasn’t enough. Liverpool handed them their first defeat of that season and began a rivalry that has carried on for years.
